Nice thread with lovely wishes for transpeople

Can we have a thread where we just say nice things we wish for transpeople by gender critical feminists? We are always framed as horrible bigots when actually a lot of concerns stem from a place of being caring maternal women.

So actually what do we think? Rather than what they (TRA's I mean, I know there are a few GC TW who understand our motives are not transphobia or bigotry) say we think because we are trying to keep our own rights

I'll start with a few of my own thoughts:

  • I wish for transpeople to be comfortable in their bodies, I feel gender dysphoria must be incredibly difficult to live with and I hope that they find support available to help them and aren't stuck with waiting lists that last years or fobbed off with ten mins when they do want support

  • I wish for transpeople to have safe access to drugs they may need that have a decent safety rate and have been tested for long enough that they aren't being human ginea pigs or suffering horrific side effects

  • I wish for transpeople to have safe spaces for transpeople in prisons, shelters etc

  • I wish for transpeople not to be unable to enjoy sex as a side effect of drugs or surgery

... I'm hoping that this will continue in a nice way... and perhaps the debates can stay on other threads so it is absolutely clear that we don't hate transpeople, we would just like to keep our own rights but we are actually pretty thoughtful and concerned in some of our arguments for fellow human beings

What LangCleng said.

Just pointing out that you being "nice" won't make males respect you the tiniest bit more, and will not reduce the hate males and their handmaidens spew your way the tiniest bit

True.

But I'd like to spare a thought for all the sweet, lovely young transmen I come across. Often care leavers, often abusive fathers or someone else, often living really tough lives. My Christmas wish for them is to feel happy and at home. I'm desperately worried they will have life altering surgeries before they've had a chance.

Trans rights are human rights - I don't want trans people erased, far from it, I want everyone to be happy and able to express themselves as they choose.

I have concerns about trans ideology and loud arrogant TRAs are making it difficult for these to be heard and discussed rationally.

interestingdebatetoday · 01/12/2018 23:17

I don't hope to prove anything to TRA's @HestiaParthenos by this thread

I just wanted a thread where it was clear to transpeople that they are not hated by GC women like myself. And I can choose to be nice without ulterior motives behind it. Lots of people who are GC have trans children, relatives, friends... if people want to they can comment. If they don't wish to be nice, they are free to hide the thread or ignore it. It's not compulsory to be nice by commenting

Hestia that is true, but my self-respect knows that my support for other people's human rights is not diminished by their lack of support for mine. I don't care if it makes any difference to what others think of me.

HestiaParthenos · 01/12/2018 23:11

Just pointing out that you being "nice" won't make males respect you the tiniest bit more, and will not reduce the hate males and their handmaidens spew your way the tiniest bit.

I hope you don't hope to prove to TRAs that you are nice, because that would be totally wasted time, and you would be even more hurt by the hate after you have been so nice.

I personally find it hurts less to be sent death threats by TRAs if I don't even try to be nice and do emotional labour for transpeople.

But that's just me.

UrsulaPandress · 01/12/2018 23:00

I hope they find peace within themselves.

Or as Wordsworth put it

the calm existence that is mine when I am worthy of myself

terfing · 01/12/2018 23:00

This is a nice idea for a thread!

I hope that everyone has a lovely Christmas and cheerful new year.

interestingdebatetoday · 01/12/2018 22:56

@HestiaParthenos I'm not aware of one. I don't go on TRA forums. But we are defending our rights not demanding theirs and get labelled bigots and transphobic by TRA's. I don't think it's necessary for me to need a thread where TRA's are nice to me for me to start one which is about genuine concern and well wishes for transpeople, plenty of whom are not in fact TRA's. I don't hate them.

Women who are GC don't have to be, and can choose not to participate but can be honest in well wishes if they wish to on this thread.

I'll wait for them to perform some emotional labour on my behalf...

... twelfth of never.

No.

MrGHardy · 01/12/2018 22:54

I wish transpeople that they realize that they are humans like any other and the words of others do not change that.

HestiaParthenos · 01/12/2018 22:48

Please link me the thread on a TRA forum where transpeople say nice things to radfems?

littlbrowndog · 01/12/2018 22:45

🙄

disrespectfulpenguin · 01/12/2018 22:41

I wish for trans people to be able to wear what they want when they want. i wish for trans people to just feel comfortable in their day today business.

I wish for trans people to have peace.

I wish the same for all people though....

MrsMiggel · 01/12/2018 22:35

I have a “live and let live” philosophy as long as you’re not harming other people or animals etc. I wish for trans people to be happy and live freely as they see fit. I only draw the line when giving one group of people rights means infringing upon the rights of others. As a society we need to find the best solution to accommodate everyone.

Merlinthegreat · 01/12/2018 22:27

I just wish everyone would accept people for who they are :) it’s good to think of others.

Iaminsaneincaseyoudidntknow · 01/12/2018 22:24

No

Racecardriver · 01/12/2018 22:22

I hope that trans people, trans kids especially, receive thorough and long term mental health support through their journey (whatever that may be and whatever direction it may take)

GenderIsAPrison · 01/12/2018 22:20

I wish for trans to find peace and not be so hung up about labels.

ABitCrapper · 01/12/2018 22:19

Everyone should be able.to dress and express themselves how they wish (as long as no harm to others).
I have a close family member who is trans, and I hope that their medical care brings them the peace and wellbeing they think it will. We just want them to be happy in themselves.

interestingdebatetoday · 01/12/2018 22:19

Yes @CathyDyson but I think it's unfair to both transpeople and women who are GC that we have been pitted as enemies in the first place. We are not enemies. We won't give up our rights but that does not equate as is suggested often to not wanting them to have rights themselves. Trans rights are absolutely human rights!

OP posts:
averylongtimeago · 01/12/2018 22:18

Trans rights are human rights.
Women's rights are human rights.
Men's rights are human rights.
Children's rights are human rights.

I hope that everyone can live in peace and harmony, supporting and respecting each other, protecting and helping those who need help and protection.

Doesn't mean I think that men can magically become women or vice versa though.

CathyDyson · 01/12/2018 22:16

Good Idea. It can get depressing reading a lot of the stuff sometimes. I wonder how a Christmas Day ceasefire thread would go down?

LauraMipsum · 01/12/2018 22:13

I'd like everyone under the broad trans umbrella, from GNC to "full transition," to have safe and unimpeded access to employment, education, housing etc, free from harassment.

I think some services should retain a female-only option, but that doesn't mean I think there should be no equivalent services for trans people. Should go without saying, but apparently not.
