"@UniOfHull As a Trans student, can I ask why I'll soon be forced to attend lectures in a theatre named after somone who doesn't believe I am a woman???? "

"Just heard @UniOfHull, the Uni I study at and love, may name a building after somebody who has been condemned by many trans people as transphobic.

This could be a big mistake and I’d urge they reconsider.

Trans women are women.
Trans men are men.
Trans rights are human rights. "

Buckle up - here we go again!

Thank you for showing that the religious right also think we are hateful bigots!

Most religions are patriarchal and will of course put the feelings of males above the rights of women to free speech and equal representation.

Oh my god thank you so much.

Anti women activists keep going on about how we are part of the religious right.

Thank you for showing that the religious right also think we are hateful bigots!

reallyanotherone · 01/12/2018 15:23

What’s religion got to do with it?

God created man, then created woman. Human socialization created gender.

VickyEadie · 01/12/2018 15:19

Say what now?

Hmm, who should I take more seriously, Jenni Murray or the person who appears to be wearing a onesie with kitty ears and has chosen that as the image of themselves they wish to present to the world?

Meanwhile, universities can name their buildings anything they like. Don't like that? Too bad.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/12/2018 12:11

Those twitter threads are so cheering Smile

haveagoodtimeallthetime · 01/12/2018 07:43

Six lecture theatres in the Larkin (that famous respecter of women!) building will be named after female graduates of the University: Jenni Murray, Ayesha Hazarika, Eleanor King, Indhu Rubhasingham, Rosie Millard and Marianne Elliot

RepealTheGRA · 01/12/2018 06:54

Oooh so Hull needs to be in the running for the DC who’s off next year Smile

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 01/12/2018 02:22

“Your complicity in the patriarchy is hanging out. Tuck it back in and do your zip up, please.”

Gold. I’m stealing this, with many thanks to the author.

mumsastudent · 30/11/2018 23:37

ContessaHallelujahSparklehorse · 30/11/2018 23:33

I have a newfound appreciation for Hull and all who sail in her Grin

WSPU · 30/11/2018 23:30

I actually can’t think of a single university building I went to lectures in that was named after a women.

Go Jenni and well done Susan Lea.

WSPU · 30/11/2018 23:28

👏🏼

AspieAndProud · 30/11/2018 23:28

I was forced to attend geography lectures by someone who refused to accept the world was flat.

From the Twitter replies:

“Your complicity in the patriarchy is hanging out. Tuck it back in and do your zip up, please.”

STANDING OVATION FOR THIS WOMAN PLEASE

titchy · 30/11/2018 23:11

Am I the only one that read the title and thought Jenny from Gogglebox was having a building named after her....

No? I'll get me coat...

DerelictWreck · 30/11/2018 23:08

The VC is Susan Lea and she's bloody wonderful, we work with her quite a bit.

Good for her - universities take a lot of punches from the media so it is very brave to stick your head above the parapet.

NotMeOhNo · 30/11/2018 23:05

Is tha a furry? Tha's wearing a onesie.

I'm hamfistedly trying to get down with Yorkshire gender neutral pronouns.

NotTerfNorCis · 30/11/2018 23:01

somebody who has been condemned by many trans people as transphobic

And lauded by many feminists for being publicly gender critical.

Tinlegs · 30/11/2018 23:00

"Forced to attend lectures".

That made me snort. Students never get forced to do anything.

(Except, perhaps, bow down to the god of trans).

Babdoc · 30/11/2018 22:53

Really encouraged to see the comments on that Twitter feed are largely critical of the transgender person whining about it. Lots of them referring to science and biology, and disputing the logical fallacy of trying to claim TWAW.
Good for Hull Uni. And how typical of TRA narcissism that they want to make it all about themselves.

concretesieve · 30/11/2018 22:51

who doesn't believe I'm a woman

No, she doesn't, and neither do I. And we have equal rights with you to believe or not as we choose. Which is as it should be.
