There are rather a lot of internal contradictions in that piece, aren't there?

Still, as long as they are happy (as in them, plural, parents and child).

I could wish they'd stop publishing their Unicorn Reality though. It makes so many people type such ludicrous things. Don't they know that their weird words will be there forever? In 30 years time Kalila Peace could be a grandma, probably with a perfectly ordinary name like Susan, and she will have to explain to her grandchildren why she thought that someone with an identity crisis was so brave and stunning... and why she thought it was fine to be so judgemental with people who believed in basic biology!

Notevenmyrealname · 29/11/2018 13:03

it'll have already been force fed a diet of non-gender specific toys, clothes

Nicenewdusters, I try to give my children non-gender specific toys and clothes as well or at the very least (as it is so hard to do) a combination of both. I don’t believe in reinforcing limiting gender stereotypes and want my children to find their own interests. I will not however then label them as being “cis” or “trans” depending on their choices. That’s kind of the point of being gender critical I thought.

Grauniad · 29/11/2018 09:26

Sure, Saratustra. Transphobia is definitely the same as 'thinking a pregnant adult is female'.

Yep.

Have you considered that you are massively trivialising actual transphobia - the targetting and physical harm done to transpeople, generally by men -- if you call people transphobic for chuckling at a young lass who seems startled that heterosexual intercourse has got her pregnant?

CAAKE · 29/11/2018 01:14

*"it’s hard for people to take my identity seriously"

No shit.

BlackForestCake · 29/11/2018 00:46

@saratustra is upset that the nonsense ideology she pretends to believe in is being mocked for the nonsense it is.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/11/2018 00:12

Ash is more sensible than some of her followers, then. I wish we could just have a cultural space for women who aren't particularly feminine and men who aren't particularly masculine and have everyone be OK with that.

nicenewdusters · 29/11/2018 00:06

Which are the transphobic posts ? I think the person involved is a selfish, self involved idiot. Couldn't care less what they identify as.

LassWiADelicateAir · 29/11/2018 00:05

I was responding to AngryAttackKittens btw.

LassWiADelicateAir · 29/11/2018 00:03

I agree. To be fair to Ash, the video I saw was her responding to other people telling her she isn't a girl and her saying she definitely was.

It's nonsense.

saratustra · 29/11/2018 00:02

Taking a few screenshots of this thread for when some Mumsnetters say there is no transphobia in this page. How fucking dreadful.

AngryAttackKittens · 28/11/2018 23:59

The thing with Ash is that pretending that Ash must not be a woman because of Ash's personality or sense of aesthetics narrows the range of acceptable options for women, while embracing Ash as a woman expands them (or maybe I should say maintains, since 10 years ago nobody would even have been questioning whether Ash was a woman or suggesting that people like Ash must be something other than women).

Personality is indeed unique, infinitely variable, etc. But it would be great if we stopped calling personality "identity" or "gender".

I've watched quite a bit of Ash Hardell on youtube, who comes across as a likeable young person, younger than they actually are. They are intelligent and attractive, and have an air of frankness that is very appealing

And their videos are crammed to the gunnels with endless jargon terms, a - z guides to every possible nuance of human emotion and personality packaged into a unique identity to choose from like a colourful pick and mix selection

I agree. And Ash Hardell has a video about why she isn't a boy. Ash , like everyone, creates their own personality from like a colourful pick and mix selection*

It's not an identity- it's just being a unique human being. It's the reason , for example, why Courtney Act and Anne Widdecombe can both care about animal rights or Jeremy Clarkson campaigned for Remain.

nicenewdusters · 28/11/2018 23:47

That poor child. The most exciting thing it's mother can envisage for it's life is being sat down and told it's mother is not it's mother. The child probably won't turn a hair, as it'll have already been force fed a diet of non-gender specific toys, clothes, pronouns etc. Perhaps we should crowd fund for it's counselling sessions now ?

SomeDyke · 28/11/2018 23:33

Okay, what people are trying to do here is pretend gender is quantum. Those with umpteen genders all at the same time are trying to believe they are some sort of superposition of genders.......

So, kind of explains why they hate misgendering -- when you have placed yourself into a quantum superposition of male and female then some bugger playing wigners friend observes you and states what gender they think you are, hence collapsing your gender wavefunction.....................

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 28/11/2018 23:11

*Fucking hell who has that much time to spend gazing at their own navel?

To be fair, pregnancy does tend to make your navel do amazing things. Mine has never gone back in again how it used to be*

I remember not seeing mine for nearly nine months. Then it came back for twenty years and now at over 50 it's pissed of again... I don't miss it.

LassWiADelicateAir · 28/11/2018 22:36

The masculine equivalent of transfeminine is transmasculine."

I'm sorry, I'm not being funny or anything, but... (as the wondeful - Tracey Pritchard,
Senior Communications Officer of W1A would say) but what the hell does that mean?

InionEile · 28/11/2018 22:27

None of you transphobic TERFs understand: this person cut their hair short - shaved it even! - and wore flannel shirts and jeans and insisted on 'they' pronouns. That makes them a man. Fundamental biological features do not determine sex. Clothes and hair do, got it? Trans theory 101.

I love how trans ideology ignores pregnancy and reproduction most of the time. I guess it's the only way they can manage the intense levels of cognitive dissonance.

The boring old nuts and bolts of human reproduction are oh-so-cisheteronormative! If only we could grow human babies in some gender neutral tank somewhere...

It not at all hard to see the pull that this kind of thing has. Attractive evangelists, a sense of community, a whole new lexicon to set you apart as part of the community and identify you to other believers, and confirm your most special uniqueness.

Any excuse for gin is a perfectly good reason GinGrin

needtoshutupandlisten · 28/11/2018 22:17

Help me out here; I was trying to think of the five genders a Quintgender (?!) person was getting at, but I got stuck after two...

PineappleSunrise · 28/11/2018 22:08

I am totally multigender from now on. I am going to embarrass the hell out of my kids. Grin

More seriously though, the article was written by someone who, fifteen years ago, would have been a CoolGirl, right? I do actually understand how annoying it is to have society's stupid stereotyping of women, pregnancy and motherhood pushed at you when you've spent all your life pushing back on gendered expectations, but that's what galvanised my feminism, rather than made me want to throw all the other mothers under a bus.

NoseringGirl · 28/11/2018 22:07

There's obviously so much about this stuff that's damaging to women but it must be difficult on the people with gender dysphoria who really just want to be taken seriously when they go to their doctors for help or they look for support from friends and family for what must be a difficult thing to go through.
To feel wrong in your own sex to that extent. Then they have to face that massive list of stuff which basically just describes most people's experiences of gender stereotypes. I imagine very few people fit into that ideology's idea of male and female. That's how they all end up with complicated labels. It's so damaging. It does more harm than good to women and transsexuals.
Off to find the gin Gin

Apologies, I should perhaps of included a trigger-need-more-gin warning.

I had wondered about 'transmasculine' too, then I read your post and almost wish I hadn't ;)

When my brain had stoped fizzing, my eyeballs had stopped rolling, I'd finished off the bottle of gin and hit myself over the head with a breeze block ... then I went off and looked online and OH MY GOD.

I must be a masochist - I looked up Mulltigender as well.

"Multigender is a term for anyone who experiences more than one gender identity. It can be used as a gender identity in its own right, or can be an umbrella term for other identities which fit this description.

Multigender identities include bigender (two genders), trigender (three genders), quadgender (four genders), quintgender (five genders), polygender (many genders), pangender (all genders) and genderfluid (variable gender).

Multigender people may experience two or more gender identities at the same time, or their gender identity may change over time (genderfluid). The gender identities they experience may be male, female, non-binary, or genderless.

If a person experiences multiple genders and also experiences the fluctuation of those genders, they could possibly be multiflux and/or one of the varients of it. Multiflux is a term similar to multigender, but it relates to all genders encompassing multiple genders that also fluctuate in intensity."

I'm off to buy more gin. On second thoughts, a nice hallucinogenic might be more suitable.
