That's where I want to live right now. Home of the Bluestocking pub and the Shady Pines, the favoured retirement home of gin-swilling, cantankerous elderly gender crit feminists. It's like that village in the Dales which dodged the bubonic plague and is a haven from PoMo fuckwittery. Anyone else in?

And if it could be in a mobile phone black spot, that would also be awesome.

I'm inclined to agree ... I'd want superfast broadband (I'd still want to be able to work) but it would filter out random noise such as twitter.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/11/2018 10:12

Ah, see it needs to be an island, not a village

In that case, it's in a lake big enough to sail on. But with access to lots of good walking and climbing... hm, maybe a peninsula would be better.

QuentinWinters · 27/11/2018 10:11

I'm moving to Badley Fuckitt. Sounds amazing. My favourite part of the country, there will be lots of dog walking which is awesome. Fermats and I can be joint pub landladies with arranfan on cake/nut duty.
I want to have chickens please. And a nice free range adventure playground for the kids

Ah, see it needs to be an island, not a village. Preferably one with a mild climate.

Better for gatekeeping.

HumberElla · 27/11/2018 09:37

Seamstress here! Please could I join you? I’m very handy with a needle and can do a special service sewing pockets in everything (to facilitate sedition).
I could also do sewing workshops in the village hall. First project will be a ‘sew a banner in a day’ with Leeds Spinners as our inspiration.

Igneococcus · 27/11/2018 09:12

I'm not sure about mandatory choir. You wouldn't think that a good idea if you'd ever heard me sing.

BeUpStanding · 27/11/2018 08:56

Ooh, or tell you what, I'll be our resident festival & event organiser. Still happy to help out with books & cakes sometimes

BeUpStanding · 27/11/2018 08:54

Can I put my name down for a few shifts at the book shop & library too please? Also happy to help out in the cafe & cake shop Grin.

boatyardblues · 27/11/2018 08:51

Definite yes to the choir. I almost feel there should be a (small) mandatory component, like military service, to ensure our protest march songs are on point. But I also do not wish to live in an authoritarian hell hole.

Hi. I was wondering if you need a community choir? I love singing and I identify as being an excellent singer and conductor, although my DH's earplugs suggest I may be deluding myself. Anyway I would love to sing in a community choir and am happy to lead it if no one with actual talent is interested.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 27/11/2018 08:15

Awesome!!!

I work in a dress shop and we are encouraged to try stuff on during the working day

So having to read during the working day woukd be great Grin

Although I was allowed to read a policy document last time i invidgilated...it wasnt the same Sad

R0wantrees · 27/11/2018 07:48

Rufus It would be a delight to run the bookshop-cum-library with you, the more the merrier (& more time for reading!)

Companion42 · 27/11/2018 07:31

Oh I'd like to move in if I may? I can run the art gallery. Lots of female artists, workshops for locals and even something to keep the kids occupied once in a while. And a gift shop. I love gift shops.

WhereYouLeftIt · 27/11/2018 02:02

Ooh, loving the sound of Badley-Fuckitt! I would love to run the cinema - which will of course only show films that pass the Bechdel Test. Phones must be handed in before entering the screening room and can be retrieved on leaving. Noisy sweeties will be confiscated.

boatyardblues · 27/11/2018 00:05

Night all. You will be pleased to know we haven’t slashed the street lighting budget here in Badley Fuckitt, so you should all be able to make your way home safely from the pub. We have a dark skies night once a month for our resident star gazers, mind. We’re not savages here.

A trois sounds good to me Wine

TheLastMermaid · 26/11/2018 22:03

I'm so far over the hill I've forgotten whether I have any skills but can I come along and sit quietly with a cup of tea, have a little doze and occasionally join the conversation?

FermatsTheorem · 26/11/2018 21:46

We could ... struggles for a moment with the complexity of franglais... have un faire-le-housework a trois, Midge, Jenny?

I like the cut of your jib, Boatyard: the bouncy castle suggestion is inspired.

boatyardblues · 26/11/2018 21:45

I fear we ARE the bubonic plague... but at least probably immune to it ourselves! It's in the soil, I heard.

Today’s Woman’s Hour factored into my OP. Wink

Ah, stupidly I played brinksmanship with my fertility and had DS incredibly late - so I find myself in my fifties with a very bouncy child, no spare time and rapidly atrophying muscles.

The under 10s are contained in a giant bouncy castle at the edge of the village. We post sarnies and pop in through the windows a couple of times a day to keep them lively. The teens are on a strict rotation schedule of 8 hrs sleep, 8 hrs bouncy castle supervision, 8 hrs gaming console/Snapchat outside of term time and school hours.

MIdgebabe · 26/11/2018 21:43

Gosh he village is barely formed and we have the first love triangle...just because Fermat name checked c.d. you jenny propose to her not me. Gutted.

FermatsTheorem · 26/11/2018 21:38

Of course! It seems as solid a foundation for a lasting marriage as any!

We can have the reception in the Germaine Bunbury Memorial Hall.

(Runs around with t-shirt over head, football-goal-style fashion. No-one's ever proposed to me before.)
