That's where I want to live right now. Home of the Bluestocking pub and the Shady Pines, the favoured retirement home of gin-swilling, cantankerous elderly gender crit feminists. It's like that village in the Dales which dodged the bubonic plague and is a haven from PoMo fuckwittery. Anyone else in?

Welsh
I don't think I have ever worn a balaclava.
It might feel strangely liberating, and comforting.

welshgendercrit · 28/11/2018 17:32

But I can do balaclavas (my kids resent me for this) so we will make a wonderful team

Threewheeler1 You're on! Swap you my easy-peasy sock pattern for yours for balaclavas. Everyone in Badley Fuckitt is going to have wonderfully warm heads and feet. Grin

FermatsTheorem · 28/11/2018 16:30

Periscope warmers Grin

Now I feel that we need a submarine to go with it, captained by the excellent woman in Johnny English 3. (She strikes me as a no-no sense, GC type.)

WrathofbubonicKlop · 28/11/2018 15:21

We've got to limit Man's Hour to just once a day.
We don't want to listen the men just droning on.
I personally can't stand their voices.

Not you, DH or RickyGrin

A woman's voice sounds so much sweeter and has tremendous integrity in the tone. Ahem.

WrathofbubonicKlop · 28/11/2018 15:00

Looks like we'll have a great supply of lovely food without the need for constant shopping.
I feel a pattern of our food wishes is emerging. Like not wanting to shop.

Threewheeler mentioned a radio station.
What a great idea, we can have Jenni Murray as the main presenter.
We can call it Womans Hour radio.

Special guest man hour, once a day.
Ricky Gervais maybe.

I can't do socks, they end up looking like periscope warmers Sad

I can do kimchi and Sauerkraut, I have some homemade one at home right now, not a problem at all.
Never tried making miso and tempeh but I'm happy to give it a go.
I love broad beans. I had lactic acid fermented broad beans from someone I know who ferments any plant material she can get hold of and they were delicious, weird, but delicious.

I like the sound of the yarn studio. I can buy my knitting and weaving supplies from you

Me too. My speciality is socks.

boatyardblues · 28/11/2018 13:41

That’s fantastic news Upstart. We have such diverse skills on MN.

I can make miso and tempeh if thats any help? (but not with broad beans. they are the work of Beelzebub)
I can also grow butter beans and sweet potatoes, and spuds in vertical stacks of tyres.

boatyardblues · 28/11/2018 13:12

With all the interest in fermentation, can we look into specialist condiments please, eg miso, soy sauce and kimchee? Much as we risk Brexit taking us back to the 40s in a culinary sense, I want to hang onto the good umami flavourings, even if we have to brew our own. Note: I briefly pondered whether broad beans would work instead of soya beans, if we are restricted to native varieties. Broad beans are one of the few things I hate, but I could learn to love them of they were useful.

I'm a big fan of cake at any time of day healthy breakfasts Smile

MrsWooster · 28/11/2018 10:34

The Village Shop will stock SkinSoSoft: midges hold no fears for us.
I also keep chickens, so fresh eggs for cakes healthy breakfasts.

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/11/2018 10:19

Team limestone here- much as I love a nice flask of tea atop the edge I was always a limestone /sea cliff climber - I need something to worm my fingers into.

I’ll be over the dale, running a sheep/alpaca/spinning and yarn studio.

I'm still chuckling over the sharpened stick patrol.

Oeneologists?

Wow, we are acquiring some excellent contacts to keep the residents of Badley Fuckett in the manner in which they are accustomed to.

Will need a dictionary for when the WiFi goes down.

MrsWinkly · 28/11/2018 10:03

Igneococcus
Excellent. You shall be chief fermenter. I'm personally partial to a Wensleydale style of cheese.

WomaninBoots · 28/11/2018 09:54

I quite like the idea of bringing DP/DHs to sacrifice to the midges. Mine would also be useful in this regard.

May I suggest locating in the East of Scotland though to minimise the issue.

The War Horse and I will gladly aid with all deliveries. I'm not sure she'll fit through the portal though. But local deliveries. The War Horse is also available for equine counselling service in which she will listen sagely to your problems while munching hay. Grin I suspect there will be less counselling required in Badley Fuckitt however...

Igneococcus · 28/11/2018 09:51

My colleagues over in oenology have. I can see if I can get a sachet, I don't know them very well though, the colleagues I mean, I'm in a different department and they aren't in the UK. Special baking yeasts (we produce different strains depending what you want to bake with it) would be easier to get hold of in the UK, we got a large production plant here but it's mainly baking and brewing yeasts. Wine yeasts are produced in much smaller fermenters on order from the winemakers.

WrathofbubonicKlop · 28/11/2018 09:49

Threewheeler
I could patrol the perimeter with a sharpened stick.
Your suggestion actually made me laugh out loud.
On the train.
Snort. Grin

UpstartCrow · 28/11/2018 09:38

Igneococcus Got any Tokay yeast? I need a jar of that and pass me the fruit.
