Allow prostitution in care homes

This reads like a spoof article, but the information has come from Royal College of Nursing guidance:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6425741/Sex-guide-care-home-residents-advises-nurses-help-OAPs-download-PORN-use-sex-toys.html

What about nurses, other residents and the prostitutes. I still thought that prostitution was illegal in the U.K.?

Sorry if the link isn't clicky, I'm not very tech savvy.

Even if traceyracer's laughable fantasy resembled reality in any way (it does not) the mostly female staff at care homes deserve not to be forced to deal with this in their work environment, as do female residents.

LassWiADelicateAir · 27/11/2018 09:26

The sex industry needs a female face and a harmless face because the second any of the actual unpleasant men who are the actual beneficiaries of prostitution open their mouths or show their faces - all public sympathy drains away

Yes, cheers Helen Mirren.

LikeDust · 27/11/2018 07:45

Absolutely. And there is sexual harassment. Exposing the female residents (& some men) to porn or prostitution could leave them feeling really unsafe in their own home.

This is coming from the sex industry trying to rebrand commercial sexual exploitation as 'therapy', the pimps as 'agents', the prostituted as 'therapists' and the punters as 'harmless', 'powerless' 'patients'. This is not the first time.

Catherine Stephens who was (is?) a main player for the IUSW - speaking over all the others at all discussions about prostitution was (is?) an agent for sending prostituted women to disabled men. That is where she got (gets?) her income. It also is the launchpad for the narratives of the prostituted being in control as they provide a 'service'. It also manipulates the emotions of the listener - discussing hoists and disability aids, severe disabilities, which for most are a turn off, in a sexual context, guilts people because they know that they could not go to a care home and do such a thing, it brings a visceral feeling of "nooooooooo!" which plays into her hands nicely. She can lighten the mood by suggesting that the kind of women who do it are different and don't mind it, then a few jokes about women who have unwanted sex with their own husbands every night.

The sex industry needs a female face and a harmless face because the second any of the actual unpleasant men who are the actual beneficiaries of prostitution open their mouths or show their faces - all public sympathy drains away. They are a bunch of creepy, threatening bastards with no care for the wellbeing of women and girls and the shows.

Old people with the required mental capacity should be able to engage in consentual sexual relationships and activity. But where do you draw the line.

Who decides who has mental capacity and who doesn't. Alfred and Mable want use of a private room with a double bed to get it on. But Mable is actually married, however she doesn't know that because she has dementia and thinks she's 20 again. Do you allow it or stop it. If the male residents have free rain to persue sex with female residents, are we the going to have to deal with, sexual harassment, sexual assault....... rape of female residents. Can the male claim that he's got diminished responsibility?

Do you police what porn they watch. What if residents start watching violent or degrading porn. Is that still OK.

As for providing or facilitating prostitutes, that's completly disgusting. If you can't find a consenting partner then you don't get to have sex. End of. These 'happy hookers' like the poster upthread are nearly always fetish workers, they're sex people, would do it for free and are in full control of their clients and acts. They are worlds apart from most prostitutes.

People who live in care homes can't smoke indoors because it is the workplace of the carers. No visible porn/offensive images etc also apply.

LikeDust · 26/11/2018 23:13

The sex discrimination act which the EA drew from said women have the right to not be subjected to a degrading, hostile or offensive environment at work and it is up to the complainant to define what that is.
A woman has every right to object to being involved in procuring prostituted women, being subjected to pornography or shown sex toys in the work place.

Marmite27 · 26/11/2018 23:06

Not illegal in Holbeck, Leeds Angry

beeefcake · 26/11/2018 23:05

Taken from the link Tracey posted

"If your client lacks mental capacity, the mental capacity required for consent to sex is not at a high level, and it should not be assumed that any person lacks it."

.....okConfused

And:

"It is illegal not to support disabled people to enjoy the same pleasures as others enjoy in the privacy of the their own homes (Equality Act 2010, Human Rights Act 1998)."

So it's illegal to not want to hire a disabled person a prostitute now?

AnyFucker · 26/11/2018 22:31

"A lot" Tracey ? What do you think the relative percentage of male/female prostitutes might be ? Hazard a guess. 50/50 ?

AnyFucker · 26/11/2018 22:29

Of course they will sign to say they are "not trafficked". What a fucking stupid "endorsement" that purports to be.

traceyracer · 26/11/2018 22:26

there are a lot of male escorts and some of them do state that they only see female clients

traceyracer · 26/11/2018 22:26

there's a website called the TLC trust which is aimed towards disabled people. the website claims the service providers (the wording they use) sign to say they are not trafficked

tlc-trust.org.uk/

anniehm · 26/11/2018 22:17

Allowing a person who is a paid sex worker with their own free will (not trafficked or high on drugs) to enter a care home and allowing the resident privacy to engage with them is one thing but care staff should never be asked to facilitate the meeting. I know there are specialists who give disabled men certain services for a fee, I'm not comfortable about prostitution however having read about these people, they are choosing to do this rather than being forced (one lady said she was dbs checked!) the young lad (was 20) dreamt of doing what non disabled men do but if you are hooked up oxygen 24/7 in a hospice your ability to attract a woman is limited!

AnyFucker · 26/11/2018 22:07

Indeed.

FermatsTheorem · 26/11/2018 22:00

And... when men do engage in prostitution, how come the vast majority of their clients are... other men?

AnyFucker · 26/11/2018 21:54

Why aren't more men doing it would be a more pertinent question.

BlackForestCake · 26/11/2018 21:36

If prostitution is empowering, why aren't rich, famous, powerful women doing it? Surely loads of people would pay good money for sex with Celeb X or Popstar Y.

AnyFucker · 26/11/2018 19:12

Indeed, FT.

It always comes back to the women . We even get pitted against each other constantly. This is one occasion where it's absolutely the point to say what about the menz

FermatsTheorem · 26/11/2018 19:07

Anyfucker that's the thing isn't it? All this jumping through hoops about the one in a thousand happy hooker is a massive distraction exercise, aimed at shifting the focus away from men. Again.

When the real question is "What sort of a complete and utter scumbag do you have to be to want to use another human being as a wank sock when you know that human being may be acting under duress?"

traceyracer · 26/11/2018 18:22

just out of interest do old people care homes have WiFi the residents can access on their own devices?

I was in a psychiatric ward in the past, they have free WiFi the patients can use. There is a porn blocker but I did overhear other residents tell each other about porn sites that weren't blocked they could access

traceyracer · 26/11/2018 18:02

I have a bit of knowledge on this

prostitution in all UK jurisdictions is legal if the prostitute/sex worker and the "client" are aged 18 or over and it all takes place privately indoors unless it's in a brothel.

A brothel means there is more than one prostitute working there (doesn't even have to be at the same time).

Street prostitution is illegal (except for select "tolerated" zones) whether you are selling or the one buying or looking to buy (kerbcrawling). this was criminalised in 2007

Advertising sexual services is legal. Pimping is illegal- this pretty much means doing anything for a sex worker in return for payment this includes making a website or taking photos for a website etc

porn is legal as long as long as consenting adults are involved. in 2009 a law was brought in to criminalise extreme porn this includes things like bestiality

AnyFucker · 26/11/2018 17:36

Rixera you will never convince me that using men's fucked up sense of entitlement to penetrate women's bodies (as long as they have the money to over ride consent) is a good thing for individuals and for society. Never.

Badstyley · 26/11/2018 14:22

Why is it that people come on here with a view point that they know will be disagreed with by the majority of users, then spend a short amount of time trying to convince us that we’re wrong, then flounce when we fail to fall into line complaining we’re an echo chamber? This is a feminism board, so it’s not really that surprising that we find the exploitation and rape of women unpalatable. Honestly I don’t know what these people want or expect. If prostitution was that fun or empowering then it wouldn’t be prostitution, would it? Like I said above, for every one woman who freely chooses to sell their body for kicks, there’s a million women who don’t. We’re hardly bothered about the one woman, who after all, can fuck for free if she likes, when the other million women are forced, coerced and beaten into it. They are not choosing prostitution by their own free will, and sex against a person’s own free will is rape. Feminists do not condone rape, and we do not condone the advocates and facilitators of rape. Making money out of one’s cunt is not a human right. HTH

beeefcake · 26/11/2018 14:14

@Bowlofbabelfish I remember that thread. You summed it up perfectly.

It's an utter disgrace, any normalisation of buying sex is a disgrace.

Cwenthryth · 26/11/2018 13:56

Oh, brilliant irony @Rixera, refusing to continue to debate whilst also accusing us of being an echo chamber. I’m not sure you understand what an echo chamber is. But dissenting views are welcome and encouraged here - dialogue, discussion and debate is now progress is made.

Nimco Ali shared this on Twitter recently - I don’t know where the statistic is taken from, and you’d need to adjust for population size, but ~70 women killed in 16 years under legalisation vs 0 women killed in 19 years under Nordic model is pretty compelling on which strategy is safer for prostituted women.
