Allow prostitution in care homes

This reads like a spoof article, but the information has come from Royal College of Nursing guidance:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6425741/Sex-guide-care-home-residents-advises-nurses-help-OAPs-download-PORN-use-sex-toys.html

What about nurses, other residents and the prostitutes. I still thought that prostitution was illegal in the U.K.?

Sorry if the link isn't clicky, I'm not very tech savvy.

Boak

I'm also thinking of the analogy that I'm sure someone will raise of relatives providing eldercare at home. Would we expect them to wash out granddad's fleshlight for him? Position his RealDoll, if he's to frail to move it himself? Help him find the best sites to stream porn if he's not very tech savvy?

AngryAttackKittens · 27/11/2018 20:34

Also, again, porn in the workplace is sexual harassment, so unless we're talking a phone that the staff never have to see the screen of then that's not appropriate.

Maybe it is rinsing out sex aids

AngryAttackKittens · 27/11/2018 20:33

Do they clean their own sex aids? Because I see no reason why staff should have to clean someone else's used sex toys either.

LikeDust · 27/11/2018 20:33

Staff offer same level of assistance with personal/intimate hygiene care surrounding sexual activity as is given for other activities of daily living such as toileting.

Does this mean wiping up jiz?

Again, the answer is no. No, nurses should not be expected to add wanking off patients to their list of responsibilities. No, women who work in care homes who are not nurses shouldn't be expected to either. No, men do not have a "right" to an orgasm facilitated by anyone other then themselves. No, the fact that they are not longer able to do so themselves does not impose on the women around them an obligation to do it for them.

The guidance does not expect the nurse to service the resident. However, the residents after discussion with the team are if deemed suitable entitled to a sex life, sex aids, porn in their room. They decided bringing in sex workers would be breaking the law.

Not sure if this adds to the staffs workload or reduces it, happy residents in fulfilling relationships may make life easier

It is not ethically acceptable to make every single job in which women habitually touch other people a form of prostitution.

fireworks do you think we are being hysterical ?

Scroll down this Govt guidance and their "recommendations"

madmum5811 · 27/11/2018 20:12

Here is the guidance offered.

One of case studies included a patient who asked nurses to help with masturbation, but was refused because staff felt 'ill-equipped to deal skillfully' with their request.

I'd interpret this to mean "couldn't figure out how to say fuck off you fucking creep and never talk to me again while still maintaining a relationship with the patient that would allow them to perform essential job functions".

FireworksAndSparklers · 27/11/2018 19:39

This thread, while full of wise debate regarding the ethics of prostitution and porn, is absolutely infuriating. It is so blatantly obvious that most posters haven't even bothered to read the actual guidance and are passing judgement on the basis of a fucking daily fail article!

Go and read the actual guidance and you'll see most of your outrage is totally baseless. You're mostly sounding totally ignorant and, quite frankly, it's embarrassing.

placemats · 27/11/2018 19:22

I would sue the company I work for if I was asked to do this as part of 'personal care', I refused and subsequently left.

madmum5811 · 27/11/2018 16:35

In friends cases their FIL`S were harrassing, nurses, other residents, even visitors sexually. To be honest I would not want to give them any encouragement, one FIL would become violent when aroused which was most days he had been put into a home because he was raping his 80 odd wife most days, almost killed her. I would not like to see a health professional put in this position once the idea lodged in the head of a resident that this was on the menu.

I know/knew of four men and one woman who I had grown up knowing who ended up like this.

lunamoth581 · 27/11/2018 16:24

From the article:

One of case studies included a patient who asked nurses to help with masturbation, but was refused because staff felt 'ill-equipped to deal skillfully' with their request.

The main issue here isn’t that the nursing staff is “ill equipped” to “skillfully” masturbate a patient, it’s that the nursing staff are being sexually harassed.

The leaflet advised giving the pensioner a mechanical masturbation device and explaining how to use it.

I am a nurse, and nope, that is not my job to demonstrate the use of sex toys or masturbate patients.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/11/2018 16:11

Nobody needs to have an orgasm, in the way they need food or shelter. If they can't give themselves one and nobody else is enthusiastic about doing so, too bad.

Wordthe · 27/11/2018 16:11

That's grim Romany I bet they got flashbacks for the rest of their lives after doing that
but I think Romany's point is that hand relief is a natural and compassionate thing for a nurse to do for an injured man
or did I get that wrong?

Wordthe · 27/11/2018 16:02

It is a real can of worms they are opening here
If providing sexual gratification is seen as a normal part of care duties then we will have 'comfort women' provided by the state and working for low wages, and those who refuse this work may be denied benefits etc

madmum5811 · 27/11/2018 15:57

A guy with mental health issues lived on a boat in the marina. Once a month a prostitute would visit him, all paid for by social services. He actually had a brochure and would pick which one he wanted. The other lads and staff in the marina were surprised that this went on. After the act they would drink in the local bar. One of the girls got chatting to the staff about it, was quite upfront and said it was all above board. Someone took exception to this and made serious waves with the MP and anyone else who would listen, he had the paperwork as proof. This boat owner was stopped from having this service as a result of all the fuss.

It is a real can of worms they are opening here.

Wordthe · 27/11/2018 15:53

this is just a trojan horse maneuver to extend the category of nursing/care work so that it includes sex work

LikeDust · 27/11/2018 15:52

Wordthe · 27/11/2018 15:51

it shows that some people unable to do it for themselves need help

I can see that, for instance, people unable to feed themselves need help, but does it follow that people unable to masturbate themselves need help?

Are you saying that a nurse providing hand relief is in the same category as a nurse helping someone to eat, ie that it should be considered part of normal duties for a nurse?

RomanyRoots · 27/11/2018 15:45

lass

No idea, those were just the ones I remember reading about. Only stuck in my mind because of Crimean, and wondered if it was something flo did.
I don't think it is irrelevant, it shows that some people unable to do it for themselves need help.

LassWiADelicateAir · 27/11/2018 15:39

Only the Crimean and WWI? Nothing for the veterans of The Boer Wars, the Zulu Wars, The Boxer Rebellion, The Madhist Uprisings, The Bhutan, Anglo-Persian, the Opium Wars?

Even if it were true, it is completely irrelevant to the discussion here. The individual choice of one nurse to carry out that act is not prostitution.
