Stella O'Malley, Trans Kids: It's Time To Talk

Apologies if there is already a thread about this. Channel 4, 10.00 tonight. 'Stella O'Malley considers the huge rise in numbers of young people embarking on gender transition, through the prism of the gender identity issues she experienced when she was a child.' According to The Times no TRA groups were prepared to contribute to this . Stella feels this may be because she was a tomboy as a young girl, (even insisting she was a boy until she hit puberty), and is now a confident, mature woman who believes that nowadays she would be pressured to go down the transition route. Sounds like it will be worth watching.

Is it the trans men's female conditioning that made them willing to actually engage in conversation?

What pombear said:

Just because we see and recognise, sometimes in our own experiences in our journey to adulthood, the 'lost' and the 'led,' and the attack on women and children's rights from those from a different quarter .

Justhadathought · 21/11/2018 23:21

Well done Channel 4! A thoughtful, sensitive look at the issue through the eyes of someone who similarly 'identified' as a child, but who went on to accept and identify with their natal sex.

Really made evident both the very human stories, but also the intransigence, intolerance and lack of ability to debate in any meaningful way on the part of many TRA's.

Having also watched the 'debate' in parliament this morning - the lack of willingness on the part of, even female, MPS to listen to reasoned objections to self ID was also very evident. There is no reasonable or coherent argument, that is why.

TheLurkingOne · 21/11/2018 23:20

I'm not on Twitter, can anyone repost a few bits on here ?

AspieAndProud · 21/11/2018 23:20

Aren’t they always in meltdown?

WaveThoseHands · 21/11/2018 23:19

Why are they in meltdown?

LangCleg · 21/11/2018 23:18

Busy earlier so I've recorded it.

Trans Twitter is in absolute meltdown.

nellodee · 21/11/2018 23:17

"She had taken a path I could have taken, and I wondered silently, had I taken a path she could have taken?"

Beautiful and sad.

Anoisagusaris · 21/11/2018 23:14

Great programme.

I love Stella. She is regularly on Irish radio speaking about parenting issues. Is this her first appearance on UK tv?

scotsheather · 21/11/2018 23:11

Didn't see all of it but I'm glad they showed the Bristol thugs for the silencing tactics the TRAs are using. Interesting it seemed to be all young transmen except Debbie. The boys and women seem to be left out the arguments at present.

CathyDyson · 21/11/2018 23:11

Does Debbie still live with her family? I thought I read somewhere that she didn't

pombear · 21/11/2018 23:10

I think they're lost, and they're being led

The reason why many of us are here, and elsewhere. offline.

To support the 'lost' and the 'led'.

No 'phobia'. No aggression.

Just because we see and recognise, sometimes in our own experiences in our journey to adulthood, the 'lost' and the 'led,' and the attack on women and children's rights from those from a different quarter.

KatVonGulag · 21/11/2018 23:09

That was powerful tv.

Really powerful.

JudasPrudy · 21/11/2018 23:08

Excellent programme. I'm amazed C4 had the balls to air this - I thought #bornrisky only went as far as pro LGBTQ+ programming. Loved that they aired the behaviour of protesters at a feminist debate. Very brave of Stella. Lots of anger about this on Twitter.

Milander · 21/11/2018 23:07

Don’t go to the channel 4 /support page for help though

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 21/11/2018 23:06

Our culture is really f*cked up isn't it? That kids are crying out for help and this is what they get. Not understanding, not support but processed through a sausage machine of drugs, surgery and unobtainable dreams

CoolCarrie · 21/11/2018 23:06

Well done and thank you to all who took part.

kayaking · 21/11/2018 23:05

She said she didn't regret it, but the expression on her face said she did.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 21/11/2018 23:03

Stella - from me too - thank you. Your compassion and understanding of these kids shone through this.

WaveThoseHands · 21/11/2018 23:03

😢 Yes to being made with love, amazing TV.

TBDO · 21/11/2018 23:02

The ending was so powerful. These poor lost children being led down a path from which they can’t return, and if they do return, it’s to a different version of themselves with added (potential) medical issues.

The girl who has transitioned back to being a girl - I wonder if she said she didn’t regret it as she has had to accept her reality and not be consumed by regret for following the path that she did? It would be hard to live life if you were constantly thinking ‘what if I hadn’t somebody that’

TheLurkingOne · 21/11/2018 23:02

Damn you all I've been looking for you on my other thread about this! Here you are!

Good wasn't she?

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 21/11/2018 23:01

Drum123 - this for me too 😢. The programme and the movement

I think they're lost, and they're being led.'

drum123 · 21/11/2018 23:01

So glad this programme was made, and aired. She presented it with passion and love. Channel 4 need to be commended for this.
