Who is this week's Comic Relief inspirational female figure?

KingLooieCatz · 21/11/2018 12:34

I can't find this on CR website, or their Twitter feed, and I was looking forward to finding out as well.

Am I doing it wrong?

Apologies if there's already a thread on this, and I'm doing Mumsnet wrong as well.

They can't have run out of inspirational female figures to give the spotlight to on Women's Wednesdays already, surely?

Angry, makes their comment of "however, we’ve also heard from a lot of people who thought this was the wrong choice, and by making this choice we were undermining our support of women’s rights." ring a little hollow!

(Yeah we'll fix it but we'll still delete anything we don't like Hmm )

As BournemouthWomen said BEFORE YOU DELETED THEM, COMIC RELIEF SM FUCKWITS:

YOUR MISOGYNY IS SHOWING.

Keep digging....

ShotsFired · 21/11/2018 20:34

And now that twitter account is mysteriously empty:

...For example the one I c'n'p earlier:

grin was drinking from my water bottle and nearly dribbled it all out because I smiled so broadly at this:

WHERE'S YOUR INSPIRATIONAL #WOMANWEDNESDAY TODAY EH? Been looking but the page is eerily quiet after last week's first Woman Wednesday was all about a bloke who killed himself trying to put a dead woman's uterus into his body last century.

YOUR MISOGYNY IS SHOWING.

AngryAttackKittens · 21/11/2018 20:30

Ah, the "pretend that really embarrassing thing didn't happen" approach to ballsing things up.

ShotsFired · 21/11/2018 20:30

Juells a good dozen replies (min) have been deleted. I had them on my screen earlier. All critical.

Very very poor show and I am annoyed I refreshed that tab now!

Juells · 21/11/2018 20:28

When I look at that twitter post it shows it was posted around 10am. But only one reply, so not sure how that happened.

As we develop our work going forward as a creative agency for social change, we will continue to listen to our friends and friendly critics who want to engage in this conversation with us.

That's a real 'fuck off', isn't it? What a sense of entitlement.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/11/2018 19:01

Interesting choice, a woman I'd not heard of who does deserve to be known.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SophiaDuleepp_Singh

You'd have thought they could have managed to tweet their choice earlier than 6:22 pm though.

ZenNudist · 21/11/2018 19:01

Have just read up on Lili Elbe. Its awful what they did to themselves. Not inspirational, except in the way of, what not to do.

I dont see why such mutilation and self harm probably as a result of mental illness or being medically misadvised and trying to fit in with society's constraints at the time (lili wanted to marry a man) is being held up as a good thing.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 21/11/2018 18:58

jesus. have you you read the blurb? Sophia Duleep Singh is a decent choice, but if they actually gave a shit they could have proof read the piece before extruding it onto the internet.

the word 'somewhat' used twice in adjacent sentences, missing full stops. whoever the butcher behind 'woman Wednesday's' was, I feel they also had a hand here.

But the pinned tweet from last week is still pinned

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/11/2018 18:35

Women Wednesdays is our new weekly column for Gender Justice month here at Comic Relief

I think they meant ‘men who id as women month’. What a load of cobblers.

OldCrone · 21/11/2018 18:32

It appears they have chosen an actual woman this week.

OK GUYS I FUCKED UP SORRY! Blush

Disregard all mentions or Ruth Anyone. I got my pro-trans/anti-women head honchos mixed up trying to post here, watch a film and make a Christmas list all at the same time.

Stonewall Ruth is categorially still on the TRA side unless she's made any remarkable statements in the last 15 minutes.

That mental image was fun while it last though.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 21/11/2018 18:27

Many of you have got in touch to share your appreciation of us doing so, however, we’ve also heard from a lot of people who thought this was the wrong choice, and by making this choice we were undermining our support of women’s rights....

...and you terfs who don't like it can fuck right off because next week we're naming Pips Bunce as Woman of the Week.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/11/2018 18:25

The most pleasing element of that is the mental imagery of Ruth Davidson having to put her name to that, given her previous attitude towards women

I think there's a typo on the statement - the 'impact and investment director' is a Ruth Davison
www.comicrelief.com/about-comic-relief/meet-the-team/ruth-davison

...who I've never heard of. Not Scots conservative en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_Davidson ... I didn't know she had a bad attitude to women, that's disappointing.

StealthNinjaMum · 21/11/2018 18:25

shotsfired sorry I haven't been on here as much as I'd like recently. When did Stonewall admit they fucked up? I can't find a recent thread but could be being a bit dim

Actually, the article says Ruth Davidson, but isn't her name Ruth Davison?!?

ShotsFired · 21/11/2018 18:16

The most pleasing element of that is the mental imagery of Ruth Davidson having to put her name to that, given her previous attitude towards women. I hope she choked on it, quite frankly. And I hope every GC journalist is sure to ask her to repeat it as well.

No twitter backlash either? Either the TRAs are sharpening their knives for her back; or they don't know what to do now Stonewall has amdditted it fucked up.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 21/11/2018 18:15

Dame Edna?

FloralBunting · 21/11/2018 17:44

Yes, it would be decent to get an acknowledgement of what a cock up it's been so far, but in the absence of that, at least the statement isn't 'TWAW, shutup bigots'.

I'm sad that it's come to the stage where I am pleasantly surprised by that, but there you are.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 21/11/2018 17:38

Lots of these companies seem to have been told the public is far more accepting of trans ideology than they actually are.
It seems to be a bit of a shock when the public reaction is more down to earth that they expect.

candidpeel · 21/11/2018 17:31

This is actually quite positive "We will however, always support the right of organisations we work with to determine for themselves how they can best support their community, and work towards social justice in their context. We recognise that this means that sometimes we will support organisations who have contradicting views and principles."

I think it means that they will not enforce "TWAW" as a condition of funding on the organisations that they provide funding for .... they will provide funding to organisations that believe TWAW and those that don't and that provide single sex services and that talk about girls and women and not "cervix havers" and "menstruators" Envy .

This is a good thing, despite their cack-handed handling of the Lili Elbe thing.

JustPoppingIn · 21/11/2018 17:31

When Ruth Davidson says "friendly critics", what is she saying? It sounds to be me as another version of you are women, you should be nice, accommodating etc

rightreckoner · 21/11/2018 17:27

ha ha ha, we were wrong and we look like idiots but we reserve the right to be idiots because free speech....
