Ht (twitter.com/DaveDavidDave_/status/1064836550448619522)

There's £700k, for example, for 'Living Gender in Diverse Times'

This features a motley crew of gender cultists:

Helen [redacted] (credited only as 'Helen', and with the email adress of press@mermaids) (she's on twitter as @mimmymum and has an adoring audience of diaper fetishists & furries as she says how great puberty blockers)

Meg-John Barker (partner of Edward Lord, non-binary freemason & big-time TRA), previously featured here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3339137-BACP-Gender-Sexual-and-Relationship-Diversity-by-Dr-Meg-John-Barker

Anna Carlile - gender cultist lecturer at Goldsmiths and Mermaids advocate

Justin Hancock - is a double act with Meg-John Barker (above) megjohnandjustin.com/about-us/

Ruth Pearce - Leeds Uni gender cultist ruthpearce.net/

Emma Renold - professor of childhood studies, promotes transgender identity to children www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5932855/Transgender-muffin-challenge-young-people-reads-like-satire.html

Vanita Sundaram - intersectional feminist type, busy retweeting tweets from TW calling for Rachel Stock to be fired for transphobia twitter.com/VanitaSundaram

Liam Tielemans - works for some sort LGBT charity. Strangely, the emphasis seems to be on the T. www.lgbtconsortium.org.uk/node/3308

Strangely there does not seem to be any non-kool-aid drinkers among their number.

It's not really surprising this crap becomes law & public policy when there's a never-ending stream of cash, public (as here), semi-public (like BBC CiN), and private (Lloyds, etc.)

Follow the money.

I have not yet heard back from the University of Leeds, which I'm frankly pretty fucked off about. there's a possibility that my Twitter output is being used for research without my permission. I'd like them to bloody well talk to me about it

LangCleg · 19/01/2019 10:19

there (sic) ill (sic)

LOL!

Katispancuddly · 19/01/2019 07:39

Diary of a Professor of Bantz and Feelz
Aged 13 3/4

Monday
Hmm. Those pesky GC feminists are really undermining gender. Have you seen them? They are insisting that society basically makes it up as it goes along. Grrrr. How am I going to get respect as a Prof of Something Society Makes Up as it goes along. Pfft. Hmm.
Ah! Bingo. If their (sic) going to undermine the specialness of gender. Let's use sex instead. Amazing! Sex is a spectrum people, look, intersex, this proves people can be any sex they like depending on feelz.
Prof of feelz rating 10/10. Check me out. I'm super awesome.

Tuesday
Crap. Those nasty t*rfs pointed out that sexual development disorders are in fact sexual development disorders. They've got the stupid NHS to agree too. Even intersex people are asking me not to appropriate there (sic) struggle, and it has nothing to do with feelz. Tut. And people are actually going on about "science" not social science and laughing at me and saying really awful words like "gamates". Rude.
So annoyed.

Wednesday
I know how ill (sic) get those Nazi trfs back. I remember what we do at school. Hey trfs NO ONE WANTS TO SHAG YOU.
Yeah. That told them.

Later that day
Oh my god. Can't you take a joke? No wonder no one wants to shag you when you can't take a joke. Don't you know I'm a Prof of Bantz as well as Feelz. Stupid cows.

Thursday
God. They are so rude. I know. I'll tell them it was all a special trick to collect info for my special Prof work on bantz and feelz. After all i do get tonnes of money to research!

Yeah stupid trfs. You can't take a hilarious joke. But I only did it to get you to react so I could study you reacting. I was breaking new ground in the study of feelz. I mean no one's ever studied how people react when someone says something really offensive. THIS IS WHY I'M A PROFESSOR AND YOUR (sic) NOT (let's ignore the trfs that are, cos not shagable or is it shaggable?)

Friday
They've reported me to the ethics committee. Like. Rude. IT'S BANTZ AND FEELZ NAZI PEEPS.

JOKING
LOLZ
CAN'T YOU TAKE MY FUNNY JOKES

Honestly these stupid and ugly people. Absolutely no sense of humour at all.

A research seminar in Leeds' sociology department:

nauticant · 18/01/2019 14:42

Haha at BernardBlacksWineIcelolly's DH's rubbish PhD.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/01/2019 14:25

yes. Sally Hines speaking nonsense adds to the general gaiety of the world. Of course DH did his post grad degree at leeds so it also gives me an opportunity to question his academic bona fides Grin

i don't want her to shut up, i just want her not to use her position to try to intimidate people

frankly a senior academic at a respected university should be capable of having a debate without doing that

VickyEadie · 18/01/2019 14:19

I don't want anyone fired. I want them to behave decently.

hackmum · 18/01/2019 14:15

Brilliant thread from Mrkh. She speaks so much good sense and is so clear and insightful. What a contrast to people like Prof Hines.

LangCleg · 18/01/2019 12:11

I realise that Sally is the gift that keeps on giving but can we not forget Alex Sharpe in all this, pretty please?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/01/2019 11:37

I know what you mean about running off to people's employers. I don't want Professor Hines to be fired. I just want her to stop using her position at the University of Leeds to attempt to intimidate people on Twitter.

VickyEadie · 18/01/2019 11:33

Sally reminds me of kids at school who constantly bicker and resort to "Anyway, what about..." diversionary arguments.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 18/01/2019 11:30

Thanks for that nauticant... I think Sally is a complete twonk. And if she has done any ethically dubious research then obviously the university should step in. But I don't like the idea of running off to people's employers on the back of spats on twitter. It's the same modus operandi that the TRAs use.

But anyway, apparently Sally thinks GC people are obsessed with gender deception. I wasn't aware of that...

R0wantrees · 18/01/2019 11:29

This is a small aspect of a much wider and really important issue with how some TRAs in academia are being held to completely different standards whilst also using their positions to contribute to the silencing of others who are asking questions.

(as has been said previously on thread, speculation about anyone's use of alcohol is not helpful in many ways)

howlsmovingcastle84 · 18/01/2019 11:23

Academic freedom doesn't give you the right to ignore research ethics.

nauticant · 18/01/2019 11:18

Being abusive on twitter isn't synonymous with academic freedom.

Is this the start of the weekend invasion of FWR by complete dicks?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/01/2019 11:16

'In general I'm against sanctioning of academics anyway. I think academic freedom is vital. It would be nice if TRAs took the same attitude and didn't try and shut down any academics who don't tow the line.'

I am against sacking for wrongthink, but I think it would be good for everyone including her if someone took Sally Hines aside and had a word about not tweeting while, um, appearing drunk.

Apart from anything else it sets a terrible example to students if professors behave like that, and the average Leeds student in whatever discipline is not going to end up in a job where you can get away with so much.

VickyEadie · 18/01/2019 11:14

Sally Hines' recent behaviour on Twitter - as summarised nicely by Hadley Freeman - is so stereotypically male misogynist behaviour it's almost like she's trolling herself.

I wonder if an ethics approval form for work funded by a government research council is subject to (a) the Freedom of Information Act

You can FOI the grant application if you know some of the details about the research. This request was successful and gives details of ethical issues.

The bantz defence:

nauticant · 18/01/2019 10:48

Does Leeds Uni not have behaviour standards that they expect professors to stick to?

Hines is a professor of gender identity and knows that the university knows that any attempt to sanction her can be painted as "enabling transphobia". In the current climate, that would be a very powerful disincentive for any university.

ReflectentMonatomism · 18/01/2019 10:28

If you are planning to carry out internet research then you need to read the Association of Internet Researchers' Ethics Guide and on your ethics approval application form

I wonder if an ethics approval form for work funded by a government research council is subject to (a) the Freedom of Information Act or (b) potential, even if not actual, subjects of the research?
