The WRC announced its decision in an email, which came after the center evaluated responses from a survey. Survey respondents opposing the production consistently indicated they were concerned that the play centers on cisgender women, that the play's version of feminism excludes some women, including trans women, and that overall, "The Vagina Monologue" lacks diversity and inclusion.

Soo wrong thread sorry Blush

MrsJayy · 16/11/2018 09:17

We don't have walk in centres in Scotla nd we need to contact out of hours wait for a call back etc etc I can see why people panic and phone an ambulance.

ContessaHallelujahSparklehorse · 16/11/2018 09:09

I've watched Puppetry of the Penis on film and had mercifully blocked it from my memory 'til just now. You monsters!!

The writer of Vagina Monologues did a trans bit? I think that's very considerate of her, but I imagine it was insufficient because it othered transpeople rather than sticking to the party line of 'transwomen are women'....

Popchyk · 16/11/2018 09:03

You can't go against the cult.

Ever.

Because they will hound you for even the most minor infringement.

Look how the TRAs reacted to The Guardian for publishing an editorial saying that trans rights should be balanced with women's rights.

Urbanbeetler · 16/11/2018 08:56

There must be trans rights supporters who see this is wrong.

Urbanbeetler · 16/11/2018 08:56

Why aren’t supporters of trans rights speaking up about this? This is wrong on every level.

Urbanbeetler · 16/11/2018 08:55

It is so hard to understand. We didn’t throw out Taming of the Shrew when we realised women didn’t have to be controlled by men. We didn’t ban Gone with the Wind when we worked for race equality. We didn’t ban Richard III when we began the journey into disability rights.

What is it with this issue? It all feels so utterly unreal.

MrsJayy · 16/11/2018 08:51

Yeah it is all "S'not fair" I think I peaked yesterday ive been teetering on the edge of this for a while lurking around threads but reading that i thought nah this is bullshit

Juells · 16/11/2018 08:39

It's extraordinary that the first thought the objectors had wasn't "Let's make a play about our own experiences" but "Let's throw a tantrum and invalidate the experiences of women"

This is why we can't have nice things.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 16/11/2018 02:16

Yesterday 17:08 vesuvia

"American University's Women's Initiative chose to change the event to the "Breaking Ground Monologues"*

As a non-construction worker I feel excluded! I insist the name be changed to “Light Weeding Minologues” to be inclusive of those who don’t possess heavy machinery.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 16/11/2018 02:13

Like that Billy Connolly clip where he checks that he hasn't lost his willy, maybe we should all check

Years ago I was waiting for a friend at the cinema. For some reason the seats were really low, so my eye-level was crotch level for people standing up.

I was struck, to the point if it staying in my mind for years, at the number of times men check their genitals, or adjust them. It was so constant it’s obviously habit.

Perhaps men are so often in a fret about losing their genitals, they can’t conceive of women not feeling the same anxiety.

My advice is: don’t look down ...

I tried reading Jane Eyre, but I couldn't get on with it because my name isn't Jane.

Also, It excludes everyone who is not a governess in the 1850s.

Vegilante · 16/11/2018 00:27

Rather than just complain, why don't these kids write their own plays? It would be really easy.

The Front Hole Monologues, Part 1: Menstruation makes me dysphoric! I'm so bloody oppressed! Tampons are transphobic! How dare they call them 'feminine hygeine products'! Waah waah waah

The Front Hole Monologues, Part 2: Ow ow ow FFS ow ow ow! Why didn't anyone tell me before I became a man that childbirth would still hurt? It's so unfair! I'm a man! Waah waah waah

The Laydee Dick Monologues: Suck my big fat laydee cock, terf. Choke on it, terf. Die in a fire, swerf and terf! Waah waah waah

Deluded Dicks in Labour Monologues: Somebody somewhere in the UK had a roomie spat, & it was all about me! Me, me, me! The whole world is all about me! And fuck that terf Young Labour Scotland canned. She's a terf so she's guilty! Burn her. Burn all terfs! Me, me, me! Waah waah waah

FWRLurker · 16/11/2018 00:13

THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES INCLUDE EVERYONE WITH A FUCKING VAGINA IT IS IN THE NAME WWHATTTT

Vegilante · 16/11/2018 00:08

Literature, theater, memoirs, journalism, film & other works of art about the vast array of human experience can be windows that open onto other worlds, allowing us to learn about experiences & perspectives different from our own. Or they can be mirrors that reflect back our own experiences & dramas, validating us & what we've been through & reinforcing what we already know.

These kids want all the windows that open onto other worlds smashed, shuttered, bricked over, rewritten, destroyed. Only mirrors make them happy - & they have to be mirrors that conform to their own distorted views & show themselves back to themselves in the most flattering light.

I also love that these particular kids have a beef with international copyright laws. Being against intellectual property protections is so woke! Book burnings a la "Farenheit 451" are right up their alley.

Bice · 15/11/2018 23:09

Good god.
So my female genitalia is offensive and transphobic and I should just pretend it doesn’t exist so as not to risk offence right?
Fucking hell.

Datun · 15/11/2018 23:02

There it is, my peak trans moment.

Perhaps I'd better not get you started on transphobic vulva cupcakes in that case...

LukewarmCustard · 15/11/2018 22:01

Long time lurker here.

Another US college cancelled its annual performance of the Vagina Monologues in 2015. This first got me interested in the trans debates and swiftly on to peak trans.

Eve Ensler's comment was: “Inclusion doesn’t come from refusing to acknowledge our distinctive experiences, and trying to erase them, in an attempt to pretend they do not exist. Inclusion comes from listening to our differences, and honoring the right of everyone to talk about their reality, free from oppression and bigotry and silencing.”

Singlenotsingle · 15/11/2018 21:24

Huh! The Full Monty is a travesty and ought to be banned! Especially where the tackle is seen waving in the wind. It should be renamed The Full Vagina (or is that a subject for another time?)

Bice · 15/11/2018 21:01

Oh for fucks sake.
That is it.
There it is, my peak trans moment.
I’ve been lurking here, learning what I can and speaking up IRL- but not enough.
I am fucking furious.
How fucking dare they.
No more skirting around the issue for me.
Fuck this shit

Melamin · 15/11/2018 20:54

I am offended at the suggestion vaginas lack diversity

They are all different and unique Smile

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 15/11/2018 20:43

I’ve seen Puppetry of the Penis and it was very funny. Even funnier was the woman in the row behind me who screamed like a tea kettle when the blokes doffed their robes and revealed their naked tackle. I was outraged because, not having a penis or a sense of humour, I was totally excluded.

I’m now starting a campaign to ban any form of genitally-based entertainment. Ping pong ladies, we’re coming for you.
