"I hope it's human". www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/parenting/pregnancy/expecting/108554713/pregnant-kiwi-dadtobe-getting-ready-to-welcome-first-child-around-christmas?cid=app-iPhone

Apologies for the ridiculously long link (hope it works), I'm on my phone.

Maybe it's the fact I'm 39 weeks pregnant myself but the phrase "chest-feeding" does make me feel a little ill.

Interesting that apparently in NZ Scout can be put down as the Father on the birth certificate, and since a sperm donor was used, completely eliminates the concept of "mother"

Another lovely video to warm cold hearts:

That's absolute bollocks merrymouse

www.gov.uk/register-birth/who-can-register-a-birth

This person (and that lesbian couple in the video) are lying to their children.

And I'm amazed that anyone who has a donor conceived child in the UK hasn't heard of the Donor Conception Network

VMisaMarshmallow · 14/11/2018 21:34

Why would anyone ask adoptive parents what matters?? Ask the adopted children.

I am one. And truth matters. I was older so I knew that I had abusive bio family but my adoptive parents withholding the information I needed to get it right in my head was very damaging. Imho telling the truth is an act of love. And not doing so is an abusive thing to do. Very very telling that you’d say ask adoptive parents not the adopted child jez.

merrymouse · 14/11/2018 19:23

There is nothing to stop a single mum putting her best friend on the birth certificate.

merrymouse · 14/11/2018 19:20

Rather it's the legal changes which mean the child will be born with Scout listed as the Father and the elimination of the Birth Mother completely.

In the U.K. the people included on the birth certificate are at least one genetically related parent, male or female, and somebody else if they are at the registry office and/or married to the other parent.

This means that if a surrogate is used they and their partner don’t automatically become a child’s legal parents and it’s already possible to have two people of the same sex on a birth certificate.

Given that DNA tests are a recent invention, birth certificates have always allowed for a bit of ‘creativity’.

Bittermints · 14/11/2018 19:06

Dreadful. Poor baby. No human being on earth has two biological fathers and no biological mother. The NZ parliament should be ashamed of having made this lie possible on birth certificates.

SlowlyShrinking · 14/11/2018 19:04

Just more imaginary bigotry 🤷‍♀️

LangCleg · 14/11/2018 18:38

Why are you linking this to lesbian families? It’s a totally different argument.

Commonly known as flailing.

Bowlofbabelfish · 14/11/2018 18:34

Why are you linking this to lesbian families? It’s a totally different argument.

My friends have two daughters - they know that one mum grew them. There’s no issue there at all. Nothing about reality is being denied. One biological mother, two mums, one sperm donor. All dealtwith in an age appropriate truth way.

That’s completely different to denying the child has a mother at all because that is a biological impossibility. I saw a great t short the other day “I didn’t come from your rib, you came from my womb.” And that’s true for every human there has ever been. Every person has had a mother.

This child is being denied what literally every human ever born has had - a mother that existed.

Jezebelz · 14/11/2018 18:14

Nobody is objecting to trans people being parents.

Excellent. Glad we're all agreed on that.

Congratulations and best of luck to Scout and the new bambino.

SunnyintheSun · 14/11/2018 17:38

This newspaper seems to have a bit of a campaign going on: i.stuff.co.nz/life-style/life/108178948/nonbinary-finery-the-kiwis-whose-gender-doesnt-fit-in-a-neat-little-box

Mrskeats · 14/11/2018 17:28

Exactly slowly

SlowlyShrinking · 14/11/2018 17:26

Thinking that it’s possibly not a great idea to tell your child that their mother is their father =/= thinking that same sex parents shouldn’t be allowed. But of course transgenderism relies heavily on telling anyone who questions anything about it, or expresses any concerns at all, that they’re a massive bigot.

LangCleg · 14/11/2018 17:16

Nobody is objecting to trans people being parents.

People are saying that children who are not given accurate and truthful information about who they are and where they came from, are more likely to experience unhappiness or identity issues when they become adults.

So, regardless of how the trans parents feel about themselves, their children need truthful, accurate information. Trans parents who put their own validation first are potentially causing harm to their children.

This. Is. Not. Difficult. To. Understand.

gamerchick · 14/11/2018 17:15

Happy families come in all shapes and sizes, cannot see how anyone could object to these two, loving trans fathers

I'd much prefer seeing a video with teenagers instead of babies. Do you have any?

OkPedro · 14/11/2018 17:15

jeze I can't see anyone "objecting"
Personally I tell my children biological facts and talk about all different types of families. I won't tell them that men can grow and give birth to babies. Will you tell your child that they have a father and two mothers?

ADastardlyThing · 14/11/2018 17:09

So cutting all the shite, this is essentially an article about a pregnant woman? No offence, but how boring!

Jezebelz · 14/11/2018 16:59

Slothslothsloth · 14/11/2018 16:53

I’m happy for Scout and don’t really have a problem with the reporting of this. I also don’t feel the need to deeply understand why trans men get pregnant. Seems obvious they just want kids, same as anyone else.

I am quite surprised Scout claims to have been fielding questions from strangers though. Unless Scout looks VERY different in real life it wouldn’t even enter my head this was anything but a woman. The idea that people are looking at Scout and feeling perplexed to see “a pregnant man” has to be sheer delusion.

LonginesPrime · 14/11/2018 16:52

"I hope it's human"

You HOPE it's human??

Fucking hell, Scout - what did you do?

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 14/11/2018 16:51

Jezebelz There’s a huge difference between-

A lesbian couple creating a child together through sperm donation and reflecting that family unit on a birth cert, which allows the child to have the benefit of two mothers with parental responsibility

and

An individual who denies the biological fact that only a mother can give birth, and perpetuates that lie on a legal document which is supposed to prove their child’s parenthood.

Mrskeats · 14/11/2018 16:50

There is no such thing as cis. Stop using it.
Only women can have babies. I can’t believe I have to write that in 2018.
The fact that this is a ‘news’ story only underlines the complete narcissism of these people. I didn’t get a piece in the paper when I had my children. Ridiculous.

Jezebelz · 14/11/2018 16:49

Lang well you did bold the word anonymous ...

LangCleg · 14/11/2018 16:48

LangCleg anonymous sperm donation is not allowed in the UK. Laws passed a while ago mean the child must be able to contact the donor when they turn 18 if they wish. And quite right.

Stop avoiding what I actually say. Respond to the substantive point I'm making or I'd rather you didn't address me.

Jezebelz · 14/11/2018 16:44

@kesstrel thank you for sharing the link! These books look great and our daughter is the right age where she will understand.
