As it's Trans Awareness Week I wanted to give a shout out to all the old school Trans folk who are busy getting on with their lives and are not so vocal online.

Peace and acceptance to you all
xx

If it offends everybody on this thread then I might suggest that it speaks more about the demographic of this forum than about anything else.

ScottCheggJnr · 12/11/2018 23:49

I'm musing on the fact that 'peak trans' is deemed acceptable but 'peak Muslim' is probably not, supporting my point with examples - a point which wasn't originally mine I might add.

FloralBunting · 12/11/2018 23:36

Scott, did you have a point? This just seems calculated to goad every single person posting on this thread, GC and TRA alike.

ScottCheggJnr · 12/11/2018 23:27

I mean, can you imagine the reaction if a TRA detonated a bomb at a GC event, killing several dozen 'terfs?

ScottCheggJnr · 12/11/2018 23:24

People can have their beliefs without trying to force everyone to have the same belief.

But when half of British Muslims think homosexuality should be illegal and 40% support Sharia law it arguably can't be dismissed as a harmless ideology.

Furthermore, the ideology is forced upon the population in the countries where it is the principle belief system and, despite being relatively rare occurrences, most terror attacks are undertaken by Muslims.

Despite this I still think that anybody who professes to be 'peak Muslim' is going to get a poor reception.

KayM2 · 12/11/2018 23:18

Trans awareness week? Missed that. A bit pointless, really, as someone said earlier ,it seems to have been trans week for about two years. We're all a bit sick of it, tbh. Someone also referred earlier to " transsexual, as we used to call them". Transsexual woman ( or man) is still the favourite term amongst yer actual "socially transitioned over two years minimum, had hormones, had ops, got the Gender Certificate and birth certificate" people. ( I'm one such) . The term " trans" or "transgender" seems far too wide , and can include some pretty odd people, who even I would be unhappy to share a changing room with. I'm aware of the irony. So why am I wasting your time by posting this; its to remind everyone that there are a good number of transsexual women and men who are dead against self ID, and pretty worried about how things are going. We just want to live our lives in peace. For the record, we prefer " she" when people refer to us, as a " courtesy title" if you like, but of course we know we are biological men, for all the hormones and surgery. It is idiotic to claim otherwise. TS women and "trans" people are often not the same thing at all. I campaign against self ID, which seems now likely to be kicked into the long grass, and a good thing too.

ShotsFired · 12/11/2018 22:31

My apologies for misunderstanding your earlier post @ PainInTheEar Thanks

OhHolyJesus · 12/11/2018 22:26

I'm glad this thread wasn't deleted, I have no issue whatsoever with transsexuals (as we used to call them) going about their business. We had a very nice transwoman in our village growing up, or maybe she was a transvestite but either way she/he never did me any harm. Peace to all men and women and all that - but I do have a huge problem with ANYONE trying to destroy free speech, safeguarding for women and children and I'd have a thing or two to say to anyone who tried to undermine my sex of Adult Human Female.

Science=facts and is not a belief system but by all means dress however you please just use the men's loos if you have a penis.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 12/11/2018 22:05

I must have missed that report. Do you happen to have a link handy?

The surprising part is that there are transmen in male prisons, I thought the UK stats said there were none in the male estate.

VMisaMarshmallow · 12/11/2018 21:59

There was an article/report going round forever ago now about transmen in male prisons and it said 65% of them reported they had been raped in prison (which what we know about rates of reporting is likely much much higher). It’s not exactly shocking surely?? Putting a woman in a man’s prison makes it highly likely she will be raped.

FloralBunting · 12/11/2018 21:43

As an aside, World Tolerance Day sounds awful. Like everyone marks the day by 'putting up with' stuff they're not very enthusiastic about but can get by. Sheesh, whoever thought tolerance was a virtue probably thought up that wet chant 'Non binary is valid'.

Welcoming difference is a good, worthwhile thing. If anyone told me they 'tolerated' me, I wouldn't feel especially edified.

Hang on, what's this about?!

KenDoddsDadsDogsDead18 · 12/11/2018 21:24

Is it a new thing for this year? How do weeks dedicated to a particular theme, if that's the right word happen?

FermatsTheorem · 12/11/2018 21:17

Hi Hamster! I know what you mean. Actually, I looked up this week's special days, and they include world pneumonia day, world diabetes day, children's day, international imprisoned writers day (all worthy causes) and world tolerance day (a great idea, but do we need a special day for it? shouldn't we be pressing for that one as, umm, a basic part of a civilised society every day). And world kindness day (which seems a bit barf-tastic).

Anyway, I loved this calendar UterusUterusGhali posted on an AIBU thread. (I wonder if she found it in one of Bunbury's books?)

Trans Awareness Week
Hamster00 · 12/11/2018 21:12

I hate these ridiculous week/days/months/special events. The only week I want is one where the "gender feelz" crew and their sycophants stop harassing women and transsexuals for not buying their ideology.

I'm quite happy to not be made aware of/praised/told I'm "brave" thank you very much.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 12/11/2018 21:12

Btw I did try to get the thread deleted

I dont think it should be deleted

But chat would be a better place for it to reach a larger audience..lif that was the intention

VickyEadie · 12/11/2018 21:06

I'm sure Germaine Bunbury tweeted something very similar the other day.

If she didn't, she certainly will do.

Thingybob · 12/11/2018 21:05

Thanks for your feedback all of you and sorry if I misjudged it, I certainly did not mean to offend anyone. Yes there probably is better places to praise (some) trans folk but then I'll probably be thrown off other forums if I don't support them all! Oh dear, I think I'll always be a homeless middle ground person. Btw I did try to get the thread deleted but Mumsnet decided to let it roll.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 12/11/2018 20:58

I would like some people to be more aware how the huge umbrella is sheltering some who absolutely should not be considered trans and that those would have an awareness of the damage they are doing to women, children and transsexuals.

I'm sure Germaine Bunbury tweeted something very similar the other day.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/11/2018 20:55

why is this in FWR?

VickyEadie · 12/11/2018 20:52

The feminists of FWR deciding what all feminists should believe. Nothing new there

Nobody's "decided" anything on behalf of anyone else.

Various people have given their opinions, which is - I think you'll find - what tends to happen on a public forum.

Lichtie · 12/11/2018 20:45

The feminists of FWR deciding what all feminists should believe. Nothing new there 😳

VMisaMarshmallow · 12/11/2018 20:34

Zero hate here, most of us adore Mir but he’d be the first person to say he doesn’t need women’s spaces made all about him.

Yes trans men are women. And any issue that effects their women’s rights is something they are part of. As are things like 65% trans men in men’s prisions in the us reporting rape, because that’s a crime commited against them because they are women and so much more vulnerable. Crimes men commit against women are a main topic here.

There are Muslims who are women, disabled people who are women, woc and so on - do you come to the feminism board to make posts about every minority awareness weak because some of those people are always women? Any minority awareness week is about awareness of that minority as a group, of all people within that group and the struggles they face because of that minority they all belong to. Not because some of them are also women.

And if you’re not being deliberately obtuse and can’t grasp that then understand that on a feminism board every single week is transmen awareness week, because on a board that centres women and women’s rights and the issues women face every day/week/year is always exclusively and solely about all women. Which includes trans men.

None of which appear to have been important enough to mention by name in the op or any of the rest of the gushing thanks posts here from those accusing us of hate.

Tellin · 12/11/2018 20:29

It's not hatred Early and your comparisons aren't quite right.

I wouldn't go on a thread about celebrating Eid to discuss how to celebrate Easter for example. It'd be rude and dismissive.

If you want to celebrate Trans Awareness then that's absolutely your prerogative. You go right ahead. The point is, supporting this thread being on the FWR boards to do it is deliberately provocative. You're looking for a fight and then complaining when you're challenged and then claiming we're all full of hate.

FloralBunting · 12/11/2018 20:17

I'm not debating you. I'm answering your self righteous blabber.
