This piece seems to have sent our favourite Doctor into an apoplectic rage yet again so I assume it is worth reading.

And the XY should be searched by another MTF.

Even if the searcher is just identifying that way for the duration.

Ereshkigal · 13/11/2018 22:45

And the XY should be searched by another MTF.

Charliethefeminist · 13/11/2018 21:08

Every female copper should identify as non binary or gender fluid so they can recluse themselves from searching any XY who demands a woman search him.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 13/11/2018 20:56

Well if I’m searched at any time in the future, I’ll be demanding a non binary biological female, in fitting with my gender identity.

I'll be demanding a biological female who rejects gender altogether. Making me be searched by someone with a gender identity would be LITERAL VIOLENCE.

BeyondVicious · 13/11/2018 19:49

Well if I’m searched at any time in the future, I’ll be demanding a non binary biological female, in fitting with my gender identity. No idea if it would work, but my anxiety needs there to be something planned in my head!! Grin

KatVonGulag · 13/11/2018 18:46

I saw the police guidance is using the trans umbrella. The trans umbrella is just crazy.

They were waffley about searches but if trans people can keep that identity private then how on earth do you maintain same sex searches? As for non binary???!!!

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 13/11/2018 18:35

Jez, the thing is that if self-ID goes through, somebody who jumped through all the hoops years ago to get their GRC will essentially be no different from a part-time crossdresser and a bloke who's realised he's onto a good thing. The other two will be able to get exactly the same legal standing, including new birth certificates, by signing a form. The police's new trans toolkit has just declared that non-binary officers should have male & female ID & use whichever they fancy at the time, FFS.

This is where the TRA lobby has got us. One big umbrella. Why should women be kind to just some of them? How do we know which ones to be kind to?

That's why, if old-style GRA holders want women to view them as 'the good ones' they have a hell of a lot of work to do.

rightreckoner · 13/11/2018 14:54

We now know it's pretty much legal for my dad to march into the Top Shop changing room and for him also to demand that all the girls in there call him she.

He never would though. Because he's not a horrifically entitled manipulator.

Popchyk · 13/11/2018 14:26

One cannot blame people for doing things they are perfectly entitled to do under the law.

Like writing a newspaper article?

Or reading a newspaper article?

Ereshkigal · 13/11/2018 13:23

It's not illegal to cheat on your spouse, or say nasty things about other people on the bus. But it's not the done thing.

Ereshkigal · 13/11/2018 13:22

One cannot blame people for doing things they are perfectly entitled to do under the law.

People can do lots of things that aren't an actual crime which aren't nice or moral.

Jezebelz · 13/11/2018 12:42

It's not really about asking permission though is it?

When an individual has legally been able to do something for 14 years it is unreasonable to expect them to suddenly have to ask permission to do those things, and for them to prepare for that permission to be refused.

Bowlofbabelfish I would liken it to your son being given chocolate every day for breakfast for his entire life, then one day you refuse the chocolate without offering an alternative. And if he complains of being hungry stating 'not my problem'.

One cannot blame people for doing things they are perfectly entitled to do under the law.

arranfan · 13/11/2018 11:56

Unreciprocated kindness is just a euphemism for exploitation.

And a cover for entitlement. It's like the phrase I loathe, I asked nicely - just a social cover for someone who never accepted that the other person had the right to refuse and for that refusal to be accepted.

Bowlofbabelfish · 13/11/2018 08:52

After being told by my three year old yesterday that I was mean for not allowing chocolate for breakfast we had a friendly and low key chat about how good mummies need to say no sometimes and that saying no isn't always mean.

I used a reductio as absurdum approach to illustrate what would happen if I said yes to every insane demand my kid has and we ended up in fits of laughter.

He then agreed no chocolate. So a three year old can grasp this concept: that kindness isn’t the same as giving in to every demand.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 12/11/2018 19:51

In any relationship kindness is only sustainable when it's reciprocal. Unreciprocated kindness is just a euphemism for exploitation.

Thanks Datun Grin.

Datun · 12/11/2018 19:36

Excellent post EmpressAdultHumanFemale

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 12/11/2018 19:26

I'll drink to that.

Ereshkigal · 12/11/2018 19:23

🍷here's to not being so kind that people wipe their feet on you.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 12/11/2018 19:15

Eresh Wine

Ereshkigal · 12/11/2018 18:59

Well said.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 12/11/2018 18:52

Oh yes. And if they're upset that we're angry & unwelcoming now, they should be taking it up with Stonewall & the TRAs. Not with us.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 12/11/2018 18:48

I think if GRC holders wanted their certificates to retain even a shred of credibility among women, they should have spoken up much louder & much sooner - preferably the moment the reforms were suggested.

I think if they want to try to pull things back now they should recognise that sex is not gender & step back gracefully when appropriate.

I think they should be loudly condemning all the non-GRC holders currently invading women's spaces & taking our rights.

I think they should be telling Stonewall, Pink News, Diva etc exactly what they think of their current homophobic, misogynist stances. I think every time the likes of Riley Dennis or VICE posts about lesbians liking penis, they should be right in there reinforcing that lesbians ARE female homosexuals and any other claim is lesbophobia.

And I think they should be giving Mermaids HELL for drugging & sterilising children who are nowhere near old enough to make that decision, & lying about suicide statistics to justify their actions.

Then we might have something to talk about. But I DON'T think that women are required to be "kind". You'd be astonished how many women I've met who kindly signed the Tara Hudson petition & have bitterly regretted it since.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/11/2018 18:42

having thought about it some more...

the idea that anything other than which gametes your body is set up to produce determines your sex is inherently ridiculous.

the idea that gender means anything worth a damn is inherently ridiculous.

ridicule away Rod.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/11/2018 18:35

In my view transgenderism without gender dysphoria is rooted in sexist stereotypes. It deserves to be ridiculed.

I'm not totally sure how I feel about transgenderism with gender dysphoria tbh.
