Pile on by TRAs

I am in the middle of a pile on by TRA's on Twitter.

I am not comfortable sharing my anonymous Twitter username on even here yet, but I wanted to ask, when trying to explain your viewpoint on feminism, and you become the subject of a pile on, what do you do?

I am stuck between not giving up, but the more I reply, the more of them pile on.

Help.

The TRAs are zealots. You will not ever change their POV through Twitter (or ever). A lot of people lurk and read. They are your audience. You don't have to respond to batshit statements or personal attacks. Just leave them hanging.

Remember too that attention seeking types are far more upset by being ignored than by being argued with or laughed at. So ignore them.

The moment they come out with something a normal person would say You what?! at then your work is done. Say no more.

You must be doing something right if you've been targetted.

WarmWishes · 09/11/2018 16:53

Just seen who it is. Most of those have blocked me. ** 💪💪

gamerchick · 09/11/2018 16:51

have a cis guy telling me women arent oppressed and death threats are part of every day life hmm

I have 2 cis women telling me I am 'gatekeeping womanhoood' and we dont stand to lose anything by extending rights

Why are you cissing on here?

BreakWindandFire · 09/11/2018 16:51

I've followed you. Solidarity. But you've been linked to here by a TRA.

deepwatersolo · 09/11/2018 16:46

I would tell them that they should come back once they can define 'woman'. Before that is really pointless to discuss with them because they don't really know what they are talking about. Using words you can't define leads to meaningless blabber.

After that I'd disengage. Or repeat ad infinitum to anything: 'First define 'woman'!'

Frankly, I will never understand why people waste their energy discussing with people who can't even define the words they use.

sackrifice · 09/11/2018 16:44

I just LOL them, or point out the male pattern rage they are displaying.

wopbamboo · 09/11/2018 16:44

Yeah thats fine, I can do that. Wont be silenced though. Its not my proper Twitter anyway.

RedToothBrush · 09/11/2018 16:42

You are not arguing with them! Don't ever treat it as that.

Your audience is the silent reader.

Treat it like that and you will feel better and see it in a different light.

DadJoke · 09/11/2018 16:42

wapbamboo just FYI that quote is enough for people to find out who you are if you are worried about your anonymity.

UpstartCrow · 09/11/2018 16:40

You might find your account restricted or suspended shortly, so be prepared to have to make another.

WarmWishes · 09/11/2018 16:36

I was being flippant. I just mean once you are put on it, you are rarely subject to a pile on. Can you self refer to terfblocker, I wonder? 🤔

wopbamboo · 09/11/2018 16:33

why is terfblocker a great thing?

OP posts:
WarmWishes · 09/11/2018 16:32

This is why terfblocker is such a great thing!

TimeLady · 09/11/2018 16:30

I talk to the lurkers in situations like this and ignore the ludicrous/goady posts.

wopbamboo · 09/11/2018 16:27

its ok thanks. Maybe I should be bolder! The more I experience, the more annoyed and bolder i get.

OP posts:
madvixen · 09/11/2018 16:25

@wopbamboo just be careful as that last post makes you findable on Twitter x

wopbamboo · 09/11/2018 16:18

I just got

'I’m actually doing more for feminism as a trans woman, than you are as a cis woman. Go figure.'

from one of them!

I posted the pigeon analogy and a laughing gif

Waterparc · 09/11/2018 16:16

sorry, should add (in case you are shocked) that he's a right wing zealot.

But it's much easier to learn how to debate by listening to someone you don't agree with than someone you do agree with (I think so anyway)

Waterparc · 09/11/2018 16:15

I would recommend listening to "Louder with Crowder" to get tips on effective debating. There is one where he debates a TRA and he just politely says "I understand your position. My position is that that is child abuse". It is much more effective than indirect statements/analogies/expressions of shock, etc,etc

wopbamboo · 09/11/2018 16:13

Thanks guys I will reply and mute.

I have a cis guy telling me women arent oppressed and death threats are part of every day life Hmm

I have 2 cis women telling me I am 'gatekeeping womanhoood' and we dont stand to lose anything by extending rights

I have one TRA being smiley and 'pigeon chess'-y (thanks for the analogy) telling me I got 'owned'

mute should do fine. Cheers.

EverardDigby · 09/11/2018 16:10

Yeah, LOL is quite good. Or go on the offensive and ask them questions to justify their position instead of defending. Even just why do you say that, or say more about that etc.

SlowlyShrinking · 09/11/2018 16:06

I find this:😂 face a very effective reply to some of the outlandish bullshit they post. It winds them up a treat if you can show they’re not getting to you 👍

gamerchick · 09/11/2018 16:03

When I'm the focus of a pile on online I pick one person to reply too and ignore the rest.

I don't know if that would work with those lot though, they're a bit strange.

MrsOrMiss · 09/11/2018 16:02

I'm with Mark Twain
'Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience'.

Mute or block. They aren't worth your time.
