I would be honoured to contribute to a mumsnet fighting fund.
Bring it on.

Ereshkigal · 10/11/2018 14:18

They really are.

LangCleg · 10/11/2018 14:15

Also pretty certain that due to the number of women who are passionate about this, funding would be a piece of piss.

I'll fund anything in service of telling walking talking embodiments of the Duluth wheel to fuck right off.

Datun · 10/11/2018 14:09

I hope you all know how much the women here appreciate your steadfastness in refusing to bow to the horrific pressure you are being put under to prevent women from having a space for their voice.

Me too. Also pretty certain that due to the number of women who are passionate about this, funding would be a piece of piss.

worriedguardianj · 10/11/2018 14:03

Definitely this^
Just place marking to follow the thread, thank you.

This.

Jeanhatchet · 10/11/2018 13:54

We can crowd fund to defend Mumsnet against this crap. Should that be necessary. The law needs testing - the trans bullies know it and so do we. There's no running away.

Just want to say to @MNHQ that whatever hits you are taking to keep this forum open, I hope you all know how much the women here appreciate your steadfastness in refusing to bow to the horrific pressure you are being put under to prevent women from having a space for their voice.

Seconded.

leyat · 10/11/2018 13:18

Gender critical women are on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Mumsnet and more, discussing gender and the misogyny of trans activism etc and we are well within our rights to do so. What Stephanie has done is characterise disagreement & the refusal to bow to compelled speech as harassment. All this is going to do is highlight how illiberal and intolerant trans activism is, and for those who look a bit more closely, they will see the toxis masculinity behind it of the need to control women and women's speech. But seriously, how deluded would you have to be to think that a UK court is going to prevent feminist women from discussing gender and sex, and from giving expression to our refusal to submit to male authority and to male identities, on social media.

Just want to say to @MNHQ that whatever hits you are taking to keep this forum open, I hope you all know how much the women here appreciate your steadfastness in refusing to bow to the horrific pressure you are being put under to prevent women from having a space for their voice.

I converted a handmaiden, when I told them that Mermaids believe in bodily autonomy for under 5's
She realised what it meant.
Funnily enough she is now keeping quiet, reading, and thinking.

Ereshkigal · 09/11/2018 21:53

Or am I wrong?

No, I don't think you are.

ohello · 09/11/2018 21:49

focusses on TRAs who behave in ways that are damaging to women and not on those who conduct their activism in an appropriate manner

While there are a few individual trans I can count on one hand who are occasionally vocal about being opposed to the mainstream trans agenda, there is not even one trans organization which is conducting their activism in a way which is aligned with genuinely feminist principles.

Or am I wrong? Cos when there isn't even one, then the few individual trans who are occasionally vocal, isn't much to brag about. They in no way offset the harm perpetrated by all the trans orgs whose goals are detrimental to women's basic autonomy.

Can I rant? AUTONOMY. If trans had their way, women wouldn't even be allowed to open our mouths to discuss sexism, we wouldn't be allowed to gather together! As much as people here don't want to go down the american road of suing everybody, it seems to me like the best defense is a good offense. Find something fundamental to sue the bejesus out of them and let's go.

ohello · 09/11/2018 20:32

I wonder where EarlyWalker is and what she thinks about this? She was on another thread for a few days, complaining that... we are too mean to the poor little innocent trans.

I think she was in this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3415474-Great-blog-about-being-a-trans-inclusive-feminist?pg=1

I would hope THIS thread is a wake-up call for people like her. Now we're not even supposed to discuss sexism. Really, it's not so much that we're "gender critical" here -- we're merely critiquing one more bog standard by-product of SEXISM and PATRIARCHY, but one which has the power to completely eliminate all sex-based discrimination laws!

noraclavicle · 09/11/2018 20:10

We are headed somewhere very dark, I think. I want to be able to say that I did as much as I could to stop it.

Damn straight!

Spero · 09/11/2018 20:06

As a lawyer, few things cause me more misery and rage than people using the law in a malicious attempt to frighten people and get their own way. If there is any kind of crowdfunded wanted or needed I will contribute as much as I can afford. This is appalling.

justicewomen · 09/11/2018 20:04

The comments about the Equality Act first introducing rights re gender reassignment are incorrect.

The Sex Discrimination (Gender Reassignment) Regulations 1999 first outlawed GR discrimination in employment and training. In 2008, the Sex Discrimination (Amendment of Legislation) Regulations extended existing regulation to outlaw discrimination when providing goods or services to transsexual people.

The Equality Act would not have abolished the GRA as they concerned different (but connected) law. Rather the GR Regs were abolished as was all other previous anti discrimination law.

The Equality Act could use some tweaking re strengthening same sex protections but overall it works well and much better written than much legislation

SophoclesTheFox · 09/11/2018 19:53

It's just another example of narcissistic controlling behaviour

Yep, this. My first husband was a huge fan of the baseless legal threat. It's par for the course with controlling types. He was also a fan of using words far bigger than his actual vocabulary could cope with. And getting them wrong Grin

Threaten away, Aidey and Steph. Tell everyone exactly what you think of the women of Mumsnet. We all want people to hear what you think, we really, really do (don't you ever stop to wonder why that is?)

Ereshkigal · 09/11/2018 19:31

I watched a documentary about witch trials a while ago and it was so depressing - one individual case of a man propositioning a young woman repeatedly and her refusing because she was ‘upright and godly’ and him then accusing her and tortured her himself to get her to confess.

Yes I remember that. Horrible.

FloralBunting · 09/11/2018 19:25

They go after MN from misogynistic contempt, yes, but also because Datalounge, Kiwi farms and all the other places that are actually full of unchecked anti-trans sentiment are just online forums for fairly niche markets.

The reason MN is such a big target for these attempted shut downs is because we have an enormously effective platform here. Politicians don't do webchats with Datalounge as far as I know. Threads from here get mined for news stories all the time, the women here are from a very wide cross section of society, many in reasonably well placed professions to be able to point out the flaws and mendaciousness in the activist's efforts. Women's rights activism has a very powerful jumping off point here.

Basically, it's not just because we're women. It's because we're loud, articulate, clever women who organize and what we do here is a real danger to the backroom shady shenanigans that have been the mainstay of the AWAs for quite some time.

They need to shut us up. Because they know we have every chance of winning.

BurntMarshmallow · 09/11/2018 19:23

I have many leads on the claimant, they're on PiP for memory loss...

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/11/2018 19:10

nora it’s certainly what all this has made me think of. I watched a documentary about witch trials a while ago and it was so depressing - one individual case of a man propositioning a young woman repeatedly and her refusing because she was ‘upright and godly’ and him then accusing her and tortured her himself to get her to confess.

The same pattern of entitlement and rage when denied.

Same shit, different century.

Same motives - jealousy, rage, and greed and accumulation of power and wealth. When women start to accumulate resources men slap them back down. Back to the kitchen, back to the whorehouse.

We are headed somewhere very dark, I think. I want to be able to say that I did as much as I could to stop it.

scotsheather · 09/11/2018 17:44

tbh I could draw parallels with a man throwing a tantrum when a woman gets promoted ahead of him. Its just male entitlement and the right to silence women. Sorry blokes, the party is over.

ThePrincipal · 09/11/2018 16:03

The more I think about it the more I realise how much the previous Labour government fucked up this country at quite fundamental levels.
