US Man Says He's Trans Just to Make Demands & Trouble At Work

www.wweek.com/news/2018/11/07/a-transgender-powells-employee-says-the-bookstore-refused-to-designate-a-gender-neutral-restroom-in-its-corporate-office/

No demand or complaint by someone supposedly trans is too petty or trivial and for the press to ignore.

Now self-proclaimed non-binaries apparently expect to be provided with gender-neutral toilets. Because using a restroom that isn't tailor-made exactly for their special gender identity would violate their human rights & deprive them of dignity. Or something.

It's a real mystery why this guys co-workers didn't invite him to the ladies' lunch!

I find it interesting how zee or zed or whatever name them is using (keeps changing), they don't mind their friends calling them Mr/ Mister on their Facebook page.

I know nosy stalking is also bad but Grin

KatVonGulag · 08/11/2018 09:23

I'm going to own my prejudice now and say anyone who insists you call them zir/zee/zem is someone I would avoid talking too. For sure as eggs is eggs they are going to be difficult.

Bit sad as they will get more lonely and bitter. Someone needs to sit them down and have a word.

Chill the hell out.

I lived in Portland for a few years and used to read the Willamette Week regularly and I'm really surprised and heartened by the number of GC comments.

LangCleg · 08/11/2018 09:15

I read the article and it raised the suspicion (again) that the reason so many people who claim to be trans are “bullied” is because they are extremely difficult people.

Well, at least the ones who manage to get themselves in the newspaper!

It's like when your kids want to invite everyone else in the class to their birthday party except that one.

PositivelyPERF · 08/11/2018 09:12

I have this take on it. A male bodied person joins a company that consists of all women, finds out he’s not going to be treated as the messiah, so decides he’s none binary. As a pp said, at anyone interested in employing him will find a very interesting background check. I wonder how long it takes before he asks for his history to be removed from the net? I can’t see trans people being very impressed with none binary people stealing their attention.

FekkoThePenguin · 08/11/2018 09:05

Not an anti-trans statement -more of a warning about self entitled, self absorbed egotists who only think about themselves and how the world revolves around them. Hardly someone your want on your team

nauticant · 08/11/2018 09:04

If any of us were recruiting for a position, had this bloke turn up and, on thinking he was a strong candidate, did a google search and found this story, how many of us would keep him on our list of possibles?

BlardyBlar · 08/11/2018 08:14

Just reading the comments, which include “Don’t hire these people”.

So this one person creating all this publicity and ill-feeling has enabled someone to make a genuinely transphobic statement.

But I was simultaneously wondering whether this company, who’ve been proud to support LGBT until now would think twice in future before employing someone who appeared to have a similar profile in future.

Stop the world, I want to get off....

Ereshkigal · 08/11/2018 08:07

But geez Louise, is non-binary people why we are heading towards mixed loos?

Yes. It is.

IdaBWells · 08/11/2018 08:06

By making sure that they were in the newspaper this article will helpfully come up for any future employers who do a quick google when considering hiring “them”.

FekkoThePenguin · 08/11/2018 07:58

Gender neutral? Not really a thing but hey... Everyone is 'special' these days, eh? Even if they are not.

IdaBWells · 08/11/2018 07:58

What a twit, they were only at Powell’s a few months and already had to start throwing their weight around and be a massive pain in the arse. As mentioned in the comments in the newspaper, Powell’s is in an older building and can’t magic up a bunch of extra space to add more loos. It sounds totally unnecessary anyway, most non-special people can figure out which loo to use in a reasonable manner. “They” was just being such a narcissist taking 10 minutes to literally leave their own workplace and enter another building just because the other business loo has a “non-binary” sign on it.

Their only purpose was to draw attention to themselves and negative attention to their employer, a well-loved business in Portland that will probably have to deal with all this trans nonsense from shrill protestors. I’m sure they can’t wait to see the back of “them”.

PurpleOva · 08/11/2018 07:55

Non-binary or a third gender isn't on the cards for beeing a protected characteristic anywhere is it?

People can't seriously be demanding gender neutral loos on the basis that using either the 'mens' or 'womens' loos would cause them discomfort? Really?

Why didn't they just adds a 'mens and non-binary' sign to the men's loo, it could have been written on a sheet of A4 and stuck on with tape. I really hope they didn't spend money building a specific loo for one obstinate person.

The ladies lunch thing was mean spirited though. Being the only person left out isn't nice.

But geez Louise, is non-binary people why we are heading towards mixed loos? Why can they not shift their perception to the loo being about their biological sex?

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/11/2018 07:40

Seriously. Just use the men's. Ffs. Talk about precious.

No wonderbthe all went out to lunch without him and are afraid to talk to him.. probably on egg shells the whole bloody time.

Fucks sake

Plessis · 08/11/2018 07:39

We do know that they weren't being bullied as the HR dept ruled that they weren't.

Urbanbeetler · 08/11/2018 07:37

We don’t know, that’s the point. They feels they was being bullied. We don’t know they wasn’t.

But that feels so clunky to type :(

RustyParker · 08/11/2018 07:36

I love that they is called Zee! (Ze/Hir - remember those pronouns?!)

BruceAndNosh · 08/11/2018 07:35

I've used the men's loos when the queue for the women's was far too long.
I survived (albeit with a damages sense of smell afterwards)

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 08/11/2018 07:28

Poor snoflake.

Plessis · 08/11/2018 07:28

urban it might not be kind but who knows how unpleasant they were at work.

I can't stop my employees going out for lunch together and not inviting someone, particularly if someone is needed to stay behind.

BlardyBlar · 08/11/2018 07:27

In August, Brewer's accounting colleagues held a "ladies' lunch" at a Mexican restaurant. All nine of Brewer's co-workers in the department are women. Only Brewer wasn't invited. Instead, Brewer says, they were asked to stay behind to answer phones.

Gillette, with Basic Rights Oregon, says transgender people commonly experience such harassment at work.

I read the article and it raised the suspicion (again) that the reason so many people who claim to be trans are “bullied” is because they are extremely difficult people.

The whole thing was difficult to read due to the ungrammatical use of they/them, where he or she is appropriate.

I genuinely can’t imagine trying to remember to use they/them in speech. I can just about manage it when typing, but it’s not easy.

So I can easily imagine relationships quickly becoming frayed if someone insisted on their use and was impatient when mistakes were made.

And extrapolating from that, I can imagine all the women in the office seizing upon a way to socialise without asking the person they perceive as the source of the discord.

When I see the constant claims of harassment at work, I wonder how many are related to being trans and how many are due to the high co-morbidity with personality disorders.

Urbanbeetler · 08/11/2018 07:25

It’s not really ok to have a lunch for the entire department bar one person. Whatever way you look at it, it’s exclusionary.

LumpSatAloneInABoggyMarsh · 08/11/2018 07:22

So the lesson the ladies in the office should learn is; just be honest and say 'We're sorry but we're just not inviting you'

People are allowed to invite who they want to social functions. Being asked to lunch isn't a human right.

InProgress · 08/11/2018 07:22

So they is indulgent of they's colleagues misgendering them until they deems it malicious, then they's not?

I'm confused Confused

LumpSatAloneInABoggyMarsh · 08/11/2018 07:20

And actually, I suspect they invented the ladies lunch as an excuse not to invite him/them because he's/they're an irritating dick.
