An abusive man who dresses up as his idea of a trans woman is going to have a lot of eyes on him, and that makes it very difficult to commit crimes.

How would Alice tell an abusive man 'dressing as a transwoman' from an abusive man dressing as a woman?..

Wonder if Alice saw the Ministry of Justice figures, released summer 2018: of the 125 transwomen currently imprisoned, 65 of them are sex offenders.

AspieAndProud · 06/11/2018 09:11

If she’s not sure what a woman is how does she know she is one?

If she isn’t sure should she be advising women who are sure?

OrchidInTheSun · 06/11/2018 09:10

Yep Charlie. That's what Meg John Barker wrote in that guide they produced. That babies are sexed according to the length of the clitoris.

How that actually made it into print is beyond me.

Charliethefeminist · 06/11/2018 09:05

Aren't there loads of TRA who think a clitoris is a small penis

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 06/11/2018 09:01

Or you could add humoural theory broughttolife.sciencemuseum.org.uk/broughttolife/techniques/humours which taught that men were hot and dry, but women were cool and damp. Women's genitals were also thought to be exactly the same as mens, but inverted - I do wonder if some people still think that is a thing.

Ereshkigal · 06/11/2018 09:00

Re the 'binary sex is biology' argument, more than 1000 scientists disagree:

Yes, there's a MN thread about that. Perhaps you should read it?

Ereshkigal · 06/11/2018 08:59

For those who say they haven't read it/aren't going to, well you're kind of shooting down all your own arguments really.

I read it. It's a load of inane vacuous pandering shite. HTH

Charliethefeminist · 06/11/2018 08:52

Sex is based on reproductive role, binary and immutable. All the word salad in the world won't change that.

By the way, there were times of scientific consensus on the following:

The Sun revolved around the earth
People with mental health issues should be lobotomised
People with mental health issues should be electrocuted
Smoking can be healthy
Sick people should have blood drained out of their body

Melanippe · 06/11/2018 08:47

I’ll take that as a “no, I’m not going to answer any questions on any of my plopping threads because reasons” from OP then.

And no one assigned you anything at birth, your sex was unambiguous and noted down. Stop being silly.

spannablue · 06/11/2018 08:41

Hi all! The reason I posted and then disappeared was because I was asleep! I can't stay up all night chatting.

Re the 'binary sex is biology' argument, more than 1000 scientists disagree: not-binary.org/statement/

And this trans scientist did too: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/549458/

For those who say they haven't read it/aren't going to, well you're kind of shooting down all your own arguments really.

I post this stuff because I don't want new feminists stumbling in here and thinking there is only one opinion. For anyone who's not read my posts before, I'm a woman, assigned female at birth, and a lesbian.

(‘As much meaning as’ but what do words and meaning matter anyway?)

merrymouse · 06/11/2018 08:30

This blog post is not about feminism. It’s about pretending that women don’t exist - except as some vague club that can’t be defined so ‘women’ has as much meaning as it is w floobihoops or hemprattles.

Melanippe · 06/11/2018 08:07

Tell you what Spanna; you answer all the other questions people have asked on all your other plopping threads and I’ll engage with this. Although we all know that’s not going to happen until “someone” comes along to agree with you and tell us all we’re big meanies.

Maybe you could arrange for that to happen soon?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/11/2018 07:58

Im not sure spanna is real

More like a plopping santa, we've all been naughty and instead of coal we are getting blogs!

SophoclesTheFox · 06/11/2018 07:32

"woman-adjacent"

What in the name of arse is this supposed to mean?

Do non binary people get contact womanliness from being woman adjacent? Does womanliness sort of infect them? Like a skin rash?

And this phrase "women who do sex work" I think lets on more than the author knows. I don't think any feminist anywhere has ever thought that a prostituted woman is anything other than a woman, so why the insistence on this? It's t'patriarchy that divides up women into "real women" and "not real women", not feminists. Just another hint that whatever transactivism is, at its core it is regressive and sexist in exactly the same ways as the status quo*.

(not the band - I'm sure they're not raging sexists)

PerverseConverse · 06/11/2018 07:30

@DisrespectfulAdultFemale spannah said on another thread that they are a lesbian. Of course these days that could mean a heterosexual man who identifies as a woman and therefore calls himself a lesbian.

Avegemitesandwich · 06/11/2018 07:28

Another crappy blog plopped by Spanna.

Is this really the best you can come up with? To be honest, I don't care if you keep doing this, because you are doing wonders for making it look like you have absolutely zero argument!

Gentlygently · 06/11/2018 07:22

I tried. I stopped fairly early on at the ‘transwomen are women’ and more or less equating to disabled women, women of colour, etc.

Given that transwomen start out men, whatever you think they become, I am not going to take anything seriously that states transwomen are women without explaining why.

merrymouse · 06/11/2018 07:18

Of course some non-binary people are more equal than others and get to be Freemasons like Edward Lord.

Not sure what ‘woman-adjacent’ means? Sitting next to one on a bus?

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 06/11/2018 07:12

i dunno what the point of spannablue is, or rather why she bothers to post

My understanding is that Spannablue is a man.

neurodivergent women

Is this supposed to mean autistic women? I am autistic and the author does not speak for me.

Transwomen are not women.

Women do not have penises.

Women are adult human females.

Women have XX chromosomes.

TheCountryGirl · 06/11/2018 07:08

I would love to know how such utterly stupid people manage to get through life. These shit for brains idiots that yap TWAW - how the feck do they manage day to day when they are so bloody thick?

merrymouse · 06/11/2018 06:57

and disabled women, and women of colour, and neurodivergent women, and women who do sex work, and all other marginalised women – and also NB people, who I mention not because NB folks are woman-adjacent, but because they don’t have male privilege

The idea that recognising any group of biological women as women is somehow a demonstration of virtue and inclusivity, not just observance of fact, is really very, very nasty.

The stupidity of thinking that being female is a question of identity, not biology “because you let all those [insert name of marginalised group] be women” would be funny if it weren’t so horrible.

Micke · 06/11/2018 06:52

who want to police what spaces people have access to based on perceived "masculine traits"

is that what we're calling penises now?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/11/2018 06:38

I'd love the author of this blog, or Spannablue to tell me how she knows she's a woman

I know because

it says 'female' on my birth certificate
I don't have a penis
I started to grow breasts when I was 10
I have menstruated every month since I was 11 except for 2 18 month periods when I was pregnant or breast feeding
I gestated 2 babies
I'm smaller and weaker than my male contemporaries

If none of those things define being a woman, then please (genuine request for information), how do you define being a woman?
