I think I will never find out why Earlywalker is so oblivious to changes that have already happened and how far institutions have already moved towards self ID.

Maybe there is a glitch in the space time continuum and Earlywalker is posting from 2005?

merrymouse · 09/11/2018 11:25

A whole thread calling transwoman men

For me calling somebody a man or a woman is as neutral as describing their blood type. It isn't a value judgement. I might as well be talking about their height.

Why is it homophobic to talk about biology?

I accept that many things in society are gendered, but I don't see why anybody would regard that as a positive thing - you might as well be making assumptions about race.

The problem is that although I hope racial prejudice will die out because differences between races are cosmetic, differences between sexes have real consequences and they aren't going to disappear.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 09/11/2018 11:24

I heard what you were saying Earlywalker, I just don't agree with you.

merrymouse · 09/11/2018 11:18

No one has to agree with me, the world would be a boring place if no one had opinions.

I do agree with you that self ID is a bad idea. I still don't understand why you think it isn't a threat when the ideology that under pins self ID - TWAW, women don't exist as a distinct sex, people should be defined by gender - has been so widely accepted by so many institutions. It's official school policy in Scotland.

Ereshkigal · 09/11/2018 11:10

All these flounces. I'd hide the thread if I were you.

Earlywalker · 09/11/2018 11:03

A whole thread calling transwoman men and all you could point out was the ‘homophobic’ parts I said. The irony is HILLARIOUS. Which was in response to someone saying men have interest in woman’s body’s or similar and read:

You could say that about anything though. Who is going to have more interest in your body if you’re naked? A gay man or a lesbian? But we don’t segregate based on orientation for our own ‘dignity’

Not homophobic at all. But go on, have another bash at making me out to be something I’m not to make your arguments appear stronger.

No one has to agree with me, the world would be a boring place if no one had opinions. I just hoped they would listen to what I said and maybe understand a bit more as to my reasoning behind my views, rather than casting me off as a woman hater or similar. (Homophobic is a new one though for Insults to me on FWR so big claps for origionality)

I am off now, just wanted to address that as it gave me the rage.

Badstyley · 09/11/2018 10:54

So, Muslim women should use the disabled loo, women who are uncomfortable because of past sexual abuse should use the disabled loo, and people who haven’t yet got their GRC should use the disabled loo?

I hope there are a lot of disabled loos... Oh wait...

Don’t even get me started on the homophobic implications in this thread. Maybe women who are scared of being sexually attacked by lesbians should also use the disabled loo? Fucking hell!

Why are we so unconcerned with supporting religious feelings and beliefs when they involve women? Apparently it's absolutely fine to have blanket rules that exclude women and gay people on religious grounds, but beyond the pale to allow women single sex spaces on religious grounds.

Indeed.

Ereshkigal · 09/11/2018 10:33

The difference is, catholic priests do not have their own facilities in every building.

I don't understand - it is still legal for the Catholic Church to exercise discriminatory employment policies on the basis of religion because of exceptions in the EA.

but why are we so concerned with supporting Religious ‘feeling and beliefs’ over ‘feeling and beliefs’ of gender identiity? Who decides who’s feelings are more important?

Why are we so unconcerned with supporting religious feelings and beliefs when they involve women? Apparently it's absolutely fine to have blanket rules that exclude women and gay people on religious grounds, but beyond the pale to allow women single sex spaces on religious grounds.

I don't agree with religious teachings that make it difficult for women to participate in society, but given that I can't change the teachings, I would rather that e.g. single sex swimming sessions existed than that muslim women couldn't go swimming. It's a bit like the arguments over 'burkas on the beach'. I don't have to agree with the reason why somebody is wearing what they are wearing to want a women to be able to take her children to the beach.

There are specific reasons why it is good to help muslim women to participate in society.

PineappleSunrise · 09/11/2018 10:20

So basically, Earlywalker believes that women and girls being cautious around strange men because we don't know who is a threat and who isn't is just a form of religious intolerance against the poor men.

I guess you could get to thinking that if you had NO idea of the current and historical stats on sexual violence by men against women and girls. You would have to be bloody oblivious, but I guess if you really wanted nothing more but to run straight over women's boundaries you could convince yourself you had some sort of point.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/11/2018 10:15

Isn’t that exactly what you are all doing?

Where have i stated what muslim women want?

I bet you dont even know what my views are on transwomen in toilets

Anyway im not going to respond to anything further you say early, not because im being mean but because i dont want you to think im being mean

Have a good day Smile

Earlywalker

“As early as 1988, gender reassignment surgery was declared acceptable under Islamic law by scholars at Egypt’s Al-Azhar, the world’s oldest Islamic university. In Iran, in 1987, Ayatollah Khomeini declared transgender surgical operations allowable. The basis for this attitude of acceptance is the belief that a person is born transgender but chooses to be homosexual, making homosexuality a sin“

Not that this is just about Islam but, you do know that you do not have to have genital reassignment surgery to be a transwoman? So my husband, with a fully functioning penis and beard, could show up at a swimming session for Muslim women and demand access? (Not that he would because my husband is not a dick). And if any of the women object they simply need to be 're-educated' into why my husband is a woman.

Datun · 09/11/2018 10:10

I would also say to ‘stonewall trans’ as per current guidelines, they are not legally their new sex so need to use the toilets for their sex or again if an impact on mental health, the disabled toilets until provisions can be made for a third space which I would definitely support.

Not sure if you're aware of this, but since the implementation of the gender recognition act, only 5000 gender recognition certificates have been issued. Only 5000 people are legally the opposite sex.

The other 600,000 aren't.

Most TRAs don't have a certificate. They don't rely on it and don't consider it necessary. Because they rely on equality law.

They are already circumventing any diagnosis of gender dysphoria in order to be trans.

Many older transwomen tell us that in order to get a certificate, way back when, you had to sign to say you knew that you were male. Otherwise you didn't get the certificate. There was a lot of gatekeeping to weed out fetishists and transvestites. That has now pretty much gone, due to the memorandum of understanding, where you have to affirm at all costs. There was none of this TWAW. That is an invention buy a section of men determined to control women.

Ereshkigal · 09/11/2018 10:08

Who decides who’s feelings are more important?

Quite. Just why exactly are men's feelings more important than women's?

Earlywalker · 09/11/2018 10:06

The difference is, catholic priests do not have their own facilities in every building. Would you support a Muslim only bathroom? After all, for all we know All religions are just made up. The only evidence of any god is a ‘feeling’ after all. Why should they be entitled to decide what they’re comfortable with and what not?

Do you see where I’m going with this? I absolutely support religious freedom, but why are we so concerned with supporting Religious ‘feeling and beliefs’ over ‘feeling and beliefs’ of gender identiity? Who decides who’s feelings are more important?

merrymouse · 09/11/2018 10:05

I think if they would have that much of an issue, using a disabled toilet could well be the answer.

Or maybe, to avoid taking up space in the disabled loo, special single sex toilets for women who don't want to share toilets with men?

IfNotNowThenWooOoOoo · 09/11/2018 10:04

So Muslim women should use the disabled toilets if they don't want to share with men...where are the disabled people supposed to go?
All this so men can get what they want? Because the men's is just too dangerous for them?
Ridiculous. I'm done.
