Alabanza retweeted these reviews:

BURGERZ by @travisalabanza was an absolutely phenomenal piece of work. So intricately written with such an important message, perfectly woven into a performance that felt both fierce and tender - all whilst deeply rooted in authenticity. Oh and the direction? Sublime 👌🏾

I saw the matinee of #Burgerz by @travisalabanza yesterday and it feels so special to have been there. Part emotional release, part humorous romp, part ritual - retelling and reclaiming of trauma - it was flawlessly managed and controlled. Hats off! Such strength and beauty 💜

Which is a shame as it appears to be very accurate (and entertaining) Enjoy Grin

I've had stones, eggs, drinks chucked at me.
Also been spat at.
And been punched in the face by some random at the bus stop.

Travis doesn't know how good zhee's got it. Burgers are soft"

Actually eggs fucking hurt if they are thrown hard, that's one thing I've learnt!

SophoclesTheFox · 04/11/2018 16:44

I don't condone chucking stuff at people, having been on the receiving end of it myself a couple of times. However, I can quite see how burger flinging might happen to Travis.

I've seen Travis in the flesh. Travis is a massive exhibitionist. He/she/they about wrecked a very nice lunch I was having up the Oxo tower (snorfle) by flinging his/her/themself about the room hollering and capering in a purple suit, emerald cape and shoes. And Travis is not a dainty person. Travis reads as camp male. I suspect the burger wanging was a homophobic burger based incident as, from what I've seen, Travis doesn't read as trans in the slightest.

KatVonGulag · 04/11/2018 16:31

This thread makes me laugh so much. When we do a top ten countdown of the hilarity amongst the lunacy of 2018, outs definitely going to be there.
Alongside the panto that was NUS trans conference etc

AngryAttackKittens · 04/11/2018 16:18

Performance art is an abomination unto Nuggan.

Ereshkigal · 04/11/2018 16:14

Wow Knicknack!

Knicknackpaddyflak · 04/11/2018 16:09

That sounds so much more fun than Travis's show though. Second breakfasts! Hairy feet! Magical rings!

Yeah you'd think, wouldn't you?

No. Two audience members summoned up on stage and put in life jackets for no apparent reason for about 40 minutes - that was somehow supposed to be hilarious. Wasn't. Frequent comments to the stage manager about had he done that bit yet or not. Honestly hard to tell if it was supposed to be a joke or if he honestly had no clue. A lot of pictures of him with big feet and a waistcoat wandering around and hitchhiking in Europe. That was kind of as far as that bit went. A hoover thing was involved. Not really sure why. He moved that around sometimes. The most telling bit was when he got a bit depressed in Croatia and his dad dropped everything and rushed out to join him. Which is absolutely what you do with your 30 something son when he's hitchhiking vaguely around dressed as a hobbit for weeks on end.

Ereshkigal · 04/11/2018 15:50

Try looking up this year's show about the guy whose research for his show was crossing Europe dressed as a hobbit. That's two hours of my life I'm never getting back.

😮😁

Ereshkigal · 04/11/2018 15:49

To be fair, many festivals contain shows which are wankery to the point of the audience sitting there going.... seriously? Is he pissed? While reviewers go dewy eyed over the edginess and other such wanky phrases of it all.

I know, it reminds me of my Theatre Studies A level when we had to critically assess theatre and film reviews!

Can I star in my own show called Pop? It'll be about the hours we were pissed off about this. And the hours out took our clothes to dry. And the flashbacks we both get when crossing the road.

YY. Second the crowdfund. I'll donate. As I'm sure would Travis.

Ereshkigal · 04/11/2018 15:24

Men shouted "fishnet tights" at me when I was wearing some fishnet tights.

And "plug it in" and "TV" when I was carrying a TV up the street.

Plus lots of less blindingly obvious ones. I've had "whore" or variations shouted at me in many different languages, as I'm sure a large number of women on this thread have had.

BettyDuMonde · 04/11/2018 15:07

A man once mouthed ‘What the fuck IS that?’ as I walked towards him.

I quite liked that reaction.

BettyDuMonde · 04/11/2018 15:04

Yes Kat we’ll crowdfund it!

Can I do a guest turn about the time a man shouted ‘Taylor Swift’ at me?

I was waiting at the lights on my bicycle and he was driving the other way.

I didn’t know who the fuck Taylor Swift actually was at the time, so I had to ask Uncle Google later. Still not sure if it was an insult or a compliment.

#traumatised

StormyDaniels · 04/11/2018 15:01

I think maybe he studied drama with Mr G?

When she was a teen a friend went through a barefoot stage. She went everywhere barefoot. Once these lads threw cans of drinks at us, while we were crossing the street.

I wonder if you can donate via bitcoin, to square the circle of ridiculous social movements?

Travis would then start moaning about the cashless society.

BettyDuMonde · 04/11/2018 14:48

As an aside, I used to stand on CXR and in Leicester Square at all hours flyering for these clubs (couldn’t afford to pay to get in).

I certainly didn’t expect a crowdfunded taxi to safely shepherd me about, and I have an averagely vulnerable female body, as opposed to a male one in ‘transfeminine’ attire.

I’m not saying that what I and my contemporaries did back then was sensible (especially not the hitchhiking that we did all over the country) but we certainly didn’t expect others to mitigate our risks for us.

Honestly, I don’t think I would give a fuck about the current TRA nonsense if they A) didn’t expect women to act as human shields and/or budge up and make room for them and b) stayed the fuck away from kiddies.

AngryAttackKittens · 04/11/2018 14:47

I could see that resulting in more people being not only willing but eager to give those particular notes away...

LangCleg · 04/11/2018 14:45

But would Travis still want money if we put [insert pronoun here cos I CBA to check what it is this week] face on a fifty quid note? Surely the currency would suffice?!

AngryAttackKittens · 04/11/2018 14:41

The take-home message seems to be that it doesn't matter whether or not it's men chucking the burgers, because the point is that women aren't devoting enough emotional energy to Travis. And that's why we should all give him money.

Ereshkigal · 04/11/2018 14:41

Betty I missed it in London due to holiday abroad and want to see it so much that I may just come up just for that!
