As somebody fairly new to the self ID debate, could somebody please tell me how Jordan is connected? And what (if anything) this means for next week?

He is an educated man who does not put up with nonsense and has a massive following of young people who want to take personal responsibility for their actions - what is not to like?

ReanimatedSGB · 02/11/2018 23:46

He's a deranged shitbag.. Yet another needledick loser who thinks that the world needs to accept that white men know best, basically.

Manderleyagain · 02/11/2018 22:55

He thinks feminism is a bad thing. I think he's an evolutionary psychologist and believes some or much of the different social roles of m and f are a natural product of evolutionary reproductive roles so it is actually harmful to try and oppose them. He doesn't think patriarchy is a thing. Instead society is organised according to competence.
I have seen him talking. Seems very strange. Not read his book.

When ever JP says something I agree with, I wish he'd stop waffling and state it plainly. In fact when I don't agree with him too.

He recognises that claiming humans are able to change sex is a load of bullshit. He also stood up and took shit for it bravely.

He just has an enormous blind spot when it comes to structural inequality and that when someone recounts an experience of sexism/racism/etc, they may have had an experience of just that, rather than having read the situation wrong.

Yes, he's very much on the free speech wing of this debate. I have no problem with that. It's not GC, as has been mentioned, but it's a vital plank supporting the ability to be GC. I might tune in and see who is sparring against him, it could be quite entertaining.

TrashyTerf · 02/11/2018 22:09

I agree! It is almost guaranteed that he will fall out with everyone!

I always enjoy a cat among the pigeons. Wonder who else is on. I rarely watch any more but will look forward to a bun fight next week. 😱😂

HandsOffMyRights · 02/11/2018 21:14

Thanks. I know his name only and I associated it with 'something' to do with this debate, but wasn't sure what.

Must be the free speech/pronouns then. I had a glimmer of hope for QT next week.

He's a psychology professor by trade, so I'm sure he does understand that there is no "lady brain".

I'm pretty sure I've seen him dismissing the concept of "non binary" too.

PerkingFaintly · 02/11/2018 21:10

I don't think he's gender-critical, is he? Ie critical of the notion of gender being some innate property, rather than a social construct?

From what I've seen of him, he relies heavily on gender-typing.

He maybe anti-trans or pro free speech or something, but that's not the same as being gender-critical.

Freespeecher · 02/11/2018 21:07

Peterson first shot to prominence by taking a stand against 'compelled speech' - proposition C16 in Canada went beyond requesting people use the desired pronouns and made it illegal not to.

TrashyTerf · 02/11/2018 21:05

I think that Peterson is gender critical, but also misogynistic... the issue for him is not women's rights, he just doesn't like being told what he can and can't say.
