motherofjiggly, they will argue against you just for the sake of it. Their demonising of trans people is horrid and is exactly as you say, bigotry hiding behind a ridiculous argument. Many trans people feel they are the object of a witch hunt. What is happening to the world? It makes me sad, when a group I thought I belonged to, who were enlightened, become the bigots and bullies. I’m ashamed that women do this in the name of women. No doubt I’ll get a load of replies picking apart what I’ve said with pseudo intellectual arguments, so I think I’ll switch off

Deliriumoftheendless · 03/11/2018 08:51

If there was any consideration for any negative consequences ie risk assessment with the trans argument I might think it was actually about better treatment for trans people rather than a handy excuse for men to excuse atrocious behaviour towards women.

Instead of saying “this does happen, how do we minimise risk to women whilst also keeping trans people safe and accepting them as they are?” There has been a flat out denial of any problems and faux horror that a bunch of people who have aligned themselves with predators may be ok with.. er predatory behaviour.

No not all trans people are a threat to women but way, way, waaay too many are excusing those who are or pretending they don’t exist.

I’d have more respect if the activists distanced themselves from the abusers, but they won’t.

Not even slightly suspicious is it?

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 03/11/2018 08:38

Why does anybody need to be classified by any gender at all?

They don’t. Sex, on the other hand, an entirely different story. I don’t have a gender. I am of the female sex. The distinction is important on many levels

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 03/11/2018 08:37

All you nasty women, do play nice now

Nah, this particular example deserves mockery. It’s not posters taking the piss out of trans people ffs, but out of whoever is selling this shirt with only two choices of fit (which happen to be the correct choices if you think there are only 2 sexes Wink) Irony, alive and well

merrymouse · 03/11/2018 08:35

There is a serious side to this.

Why does anybody need to be classified by any gender at all?

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 03/11/2018 08:33

Grin🤣🤣🤣

Juells · 03/11/2018 08:31

The bitter and twisted are out to play.

No, we're laughing at the size choices offered when coupled with the message on the shirt. Do you not get that?

starzig · 03/11/2018 08:24

What a lovely bit of nastiness and mockery to start the day. The bitter and twisted are out to play.

HannahnotAgnes · 03/11/2018 08:06

Completely agree ohello.

I'm happy to refer to people by whatever names & pronouns they choose & fully believe in live & let live. However penises should be kept out of female spaces & I can't understand the rationale for anyone thinking differently. Call yourself whatever you like but if you have a penis, then you shouldn't be able to access women only protected spaces.

Juells · 03/11/2018 07:49

misplaced sense of humour

Not just misplaced 😁

I really must look for a better dictionary along with my misplaced sense of humour.

Well, you said it 🤷‍♀️

Indignation by the high-horsed po-faced always adds to the gaiety of the nation.

Go on, mother, admit it - you only looked at the first screen grab before you posted indignantly, didn’t you? Grin

motherofjiggly · 02/11/2018 21:22

@titchy I've misused another word have I? I really must look for a better dictionary along with my misplaced sense of humour.

motherofjiggly · 02/11/2018 21:20

Oh for goodness sake @Racecardriver, I know damn well what the word bigot means and it's absolutely on the money here. Everyone tittering at the stupid pro-trans t-shirt. Just a friendly bit of banter no doubt .

titchy · 02/11/2018 21:16

It's irony not mockery Someone had a sense of honour fail tonight?

For the record I suspect the most GC MNer is more than happy to agree there are a lot more than two genders, as long as they don't conflate that with sex.

Pinkyyy · 02/11/2018 21:13

😂😂

Racecardriver · 02/11/2018 21:11

@motherofjiggly pointing out irony isn’t bigoted though. It’s ironic that a shirt that states that there are more than two genders only comes in a men’s or women’s fit. I agree that this isn’t really a gene it’s issue so arguably shouldn’t he on this board but it really isn’t bigotry. Bigotry is the young man who walked past my window yelling at the top of his voice at his mate ‘you’re a fucking homosexual (sting if homosexual slurs). Aren’t you?’ Not, hey look at this funny thing. This is the equivalent of a bakery making a non vegan cake endorsing veganism. You wouldn’t think it was bigoted against vegans to highlight the irony of that would you. Bigotry is a big thing. It’s very serious. Words like biogrty loose meaning when they are minimised like this. And when we loose the meanings of words that describe horrific conduct we loose the ability to discerne between the worst of human behaviour and things that merely make us uncomfortable. Words are important. Don’t disrespect them.

motherofjiggly · 02/11/2018 21:04

Because it comes in two fits - Male and female!

So what? It's still mean, unnecessary, spiteful mockery. I get so utterly sick of these threads. And yes I know I don't have to post but it's turned into such a self-congratulatory echo chamber, I want to add my voice to make the point that not every poster on Mumsnet is such a tedious bigot.

titchy · 02/11/2018 20:58

Because it comes in two fits - Male and female!

motherofjiggly · 02/11/2018 20:57

What's wrong with it then? Why has the feminist topic gone from being an interesting and broad discussion board, to being obsessed with the GRA, to now just taking cheap potshots at all things to do with trans? (But of course, it's only because of women's safe spaces. Nothing to do with mean spirited bigotry).

NoSquirrels · 02/11/2018 20:33
