Women’s Place - cancelled Leeds meeting

Came across this FOI request regarding the cancellation of the booking - it’s been updated today.

www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/womens_place_uk_booking?nocache=incoming-1257930#incoming-1257930

As well as publishing all their emails about cancelling the booking and redrafts of the press release, Leeds council today, accidentally published the name and phone number of the person who made the original booking - since been removed. I can’t believe they actually did that...

And in all those emails, thousands of words in total, there wasn't even one example of the transphobia that they were accusing WPUK of

yes

people just said 'transphobia' and everyone nodded along like nodding bloody dogs

not one of those numpties said 'prove it'

the starting assumption is that women are in the wrong isn't it?

Ereshkigal · 01/11/2018 21:02

I really hope the person reports to the ICO.

ThatsYouThatIs · 01/11/2018 20:58

The booker of the room is aware that her details are online but is not in a position to do anything until tomorrow now (I'm not the booker btw).

I've contacted whatdotheyknow to ask for the appendices to be removed due to the personal data in them but not sure if anything will be done until tomorrow.

It's very poor that LCC have managed to post personal data twice. I wonder if Judith Blake and Tom Riordan are going to do anything to ensure the room booker is not targeted by TRAs given they are ultimately responsible for the data provided.

OldCrone · 01/11/2018 20:41

Hopefully they've been reported to the IC.

Who can do this? Is it up to the person whose personal data has been released?

NicoAndTheNiners · 01/11/2018 20:38

Serious breach of GDPR to release the bookers name surely. Guess the council will face a massive fine for that. Hopefully they've been reported to the IC.

Popchyk · 01/11/2018 20:35

And in all those emails, thousands of words in total, there wasn't even one example of the transphobia that they were accusing WPUK of.

Nobody at the council stopped to find evidence of this supposed wrongdoing before leaping into action to denounce WPUK.

It raises very serious questions about the people at Leeds council. And their links to outside agencies.

RollerJed · 01/11/2018 20:32

I feel like we aren't being taken serious as women, but we are seriously considered a threat Confused

This thread has actually made me feel a bit deflated by it all. A simple meeting booking has caused 32 people to complain and it's cancelled, how many have complained about self ID and what's the outcome there...?

OldCrone · 01/11/2018 20:22

Thanks, QuietContraryMary. For some reason I hadn't see the updates from today - when I clicked on the OP's link earlier, I could only see the updates up to yesterday. But I can see them all now, and as others have said, even in the second upload, they've still left in personal details.

Ereshkigal · 01/11/2018 20:11

Wow.

QuietContraryMary · 01/11/2018 20:08

It's here in the title bar of the appointment booking.

Popchyk · 01/11/2018 20:05

emails pdf

Branleuse · 01/11/2018 20:03

Fucks sake

OldCrone · 01/11/2018 20:03

This is the email exchange from the link. I can't see any name for the person who made the booking, it's just Woman's Place UK.

OldCrone · 01/11/2018 19:59

So they are very careful not to release the contents of e-mails that they used to take this decision, but are very lax with the name and phone number of the person booking the venue

Where are you seeing this? I can't see anything like that in the link posted by the OP. The only mobile number is for Jessica Lennox who was the councillor who got the meeting cancelled, and there are a few phone numbers (presumably work numbers) for other people at the civic hall. Am I looking at a different document?

Popchyk · 01/11/2018 19:55

MESMAC involved very early on in trying to get it shut down.

Interesting that the council would seek and take advice about a group of women meeting to discuss their rights from a charity for men who have sex with men.

This is a charity who had a convicted paedophile director (jailed earlier this year) and who had to shut down one of their projects earlier this year after investigation from the Charity Commission.

AverageAvenger · 01/11/2018 19:31

I am so fucking angry.

QuietContraryMary · 01/11/2018 19:30

The incompetent/malicious fucks have STILL left the name & mobile number of the person who booked the room in the pdf even the second time around.

Absolute useless shower of shit.

QuietContraryMary · 01/11/2018 19:26

What a bunch of shits.

"The Civic Hall is a public building and the safety of staff and visitors is our primary concern. The organisers of the event had withheld the location for this reason. "

"In addition to security concerns [because what? violent feminists?] we would not want to provide a platform for those using hate speech or expressing views which are Transphobic. We have therefore decided that Leeds Civic Hall is not an appropriate venue for this event and have informed the organisers that their booking has been cancelled.

Kind Regards,
Geoff Turnbull"

However

"Not only has this group been allowed to book a room at the Civic Hall
for their hate rally, they have seemingly also secured security protection and special treatment. "

Juells · 01/11/2018 18:36

Notice how sneaky it all is... even the seemingly innocuous alteration of 'meeting' to 'event' is attempting to blur the fact that it's a group meeting to discuss proposed changes to the law.

They're like a bunch of gleeful hyenas, figuring out how to fuck women over and get away with it.

I'm surprised some of those emails didn't disappear.

Beamur · 01/11/2018 17:58

www.leeds.gov.uk/your-council/councillors-and-democracy/code-of-conduct
This is how to complain about councillor conduct.

Imnobody4 · 01/11/2018 17:48

Those emails are appalling. Isn't Jessica's email libellous -can a councillor really get away with that?

kendoddsdadsdogsdead18 · 01/11/2018 14:50

It looks like they will try and hinge part of their defence on being mis led.

AverageAvenger · 01/11/2018 14:48

Yes, I’ve see it. It’s clearly bollocks. It’s just that the L has been written over an initial spelling error. They knew long before then that it was Place anyway.

kendoddsdadsdogsdead18 · 01/11/2018 14:36

Can anyone see a form that notes the title as 'a woman's peace is speaking the truth?' They seem to be insinuating they were lead to believe the meeting was about immigration.
