Mail tackles the concept of incorrect crime stats.

Ha Ha Assigned Guilty at Trial brilliant.

Actually given lots of trials rely on conflicting evidence and testimony, 'assigned' makes more sense in this context than in the context of observing sexual dimorphism.

AspieAndProud · 30/10/2018 11:11

Just because you are Assigned Guiity at Trail doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have the right to amend your records.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 30/10/2018 11:06

They'll be identifying as 'not a criminal' and 'not convicted' next. What will they do then?! Sure, there was a trial and I was found to be guilty but I feel innocent in my head so......

Makes as much sense as identifying as a woman.

NotMeOhNo · 30/10/2018 01:23

There was the recent case where a paedophile had managed to get a GRC while incarcerated. GRCs are no guarantee that you're not a sicko.

Binglebong · 30/10/2018 00:31

Not a gov petition sadly but it's a start.

Binglebong · 30/10/2018 00:27

There is a petition floating about on this, I'll try to find it.

Barracker · 30/10/2018 00:07

The Freedom of Information request that revealed the Met Police have been recording by self-defined gender since 2009.

Recording crimes in the correct sex

Tbh I find this so fucking upsetting I can barely think about it. That men's crimes are being assigned to women when we form such a tiny tiny part of the prison population. It's so bloody wrong.

I'm going to have to think about kittens or something

loveyouradvice · 29/10/2018 23:15

barracker that's what I thought too.... but how can the Met do this if Herts are right about this?

Last night, Hertfordshire Police said: ‘As per national guidelines, a trans person’s Police National Computer file will have them recorded as the gender they were at birth unless they are in possession of a gender reassignment certificate

And if Herts are right, how on earth will they know what they were recorded at birth if they are not allowed to ask? If they've seen a driving licence in new name don't they just take that?

I DO NOT BELIEVE that the six "women" who raped last year ie at least five of them male, all had GRCs... that sounds very disproportionate given its around 3,000 born-male who have a GRC (and less than 5,000 in total)

SO WHAT DO WE DO????

This is very important - and if Herts is right, at least there are national guidelines which do say the right thing - and we should be seeking for them to be implemented

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 29/10/2018 23:02

It's seriously depressing.

I do wonder though whether self-ID might actually blow the lid off the whole thing, as you have to wonder for any man with a long sentence what the advantages of NOT id'ing as a woman is, if all you have to do is sign a form? Surely, they'll be doing it in record numbers? Access to women prisoners and the possibility of a sex life would presumably be more than enough incentive for many, the possibility to be housed in with women in better conditions another huge draw. If large numbers all did try and do it it would expose this ridiculous nonsense. What would the prison service do if a huge number of men start to self-ID - they can't possibly house them all in the womens estate?.

OrchidInTheSun · 29/10/2018 22:52

Is that right Barracker? Fucking hell

Barracker · 29/10/2018 22:32

Crimes have been recorded by the Met police by SELF DEFINED GENDER since 2009.

GRC not necessary.

The implication that it's only GRC holders is false.

Crime stats have been getting progressively corrupted for nearly a decade.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/10/2018 21:16

But crimes committed after a GRC will still be recorded as female crimes..

KayM2 · 29/10/2018 20:58

There seems to be a widespread misapprehension about whether crimes committed before transition and a GRC/ new birth certificate are untraceable. They are easily traced. At a deeper level of admin, a transsexual person's former life is on record. As is shown when one applies for security clearance for a new job. The past is never erased, and nor should it be.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/10/2018 20:41

Experts think a social shift in attitude is seeing more men report the sex crimes

This could be the case, entirely or partially. The problem is it is impossible to tell (for anybody I think?)

AspieAndProud · 29/10/2018 20:04

A male body which commits a crime should go to a male prison. If ‘gender identity’ is really something separate from their body it can sneak out through the wall for all I care. Being unsubstantial it can’t get up to much mischief.

Invisible1234 · 29/10/2018 19:37

Six "women" were convicted of rape - only males can commit rape. It is a penis related offence.

Record number of women are being convicted of sex crimes as the total found guilty doubles and the number of teachers grooming pupils shoots up
In 2016 142 were guilty of sex offences, almost double the 74 convicted in 2014
There's been sharp increase in female teachers grooming underage schoolboys
Experts think a social shift in attitude is seeing more men report the sex crimes

theOtherPamAyres · 29/10/2018 09:52

Two points arise from the Statement from Hertfordshire Police

(1) The "national guidelines" were written by a sub-committee of the National Police Chiefs.
Who advised them?
What training had they had?
Who provided it?

(2) There is extraordinary trust placed in the panel that approves Gender Recognition Certificates.
How do we know that the decisions are sound, in every case?

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/10/2018 12:13

If a GRC allows the recording of crime in the wrong sex, we have a problem. We have apparently 5000 holders in the country? And already how many rapes have been recorded as being by women when they are not (women can only be convicted of rape as accessory and that has been vanishingly rare.)

Allowing anyone to self declare and gain a GRC will have a serious impact on crime stats.

It would be interesting to start collating the effect of this NOW as its happening- this is valuable data and its easier to get as it happens rather than retrospectively. That is something I would support a crowdfunder for.

The more examples like this I see the more I feel this is a concerted attack on the very frameworks of society that protect women and children

His conversion to "woman" happened in the short period of a month (between being on trial for his first offences of the sexual abuse of children and just before being sentenced).

Stephanie Mottershead is the case of a man who stabbed another man. There was a year between the charges being brought and the trial taking place. Mottershead had claimed that they had just started to transition before the trial. Been in and out of men's prisons before for violent offences of course.

I think we'll be a lot of sudden conversions to womanhood between charges being brought and court appearances from now on.

OrchidInTheSun · 28/10/2018 11:42

It was last year. The police issued a photo saying that Lisa Hauxwell may be dressed as a man.

Hauxwell was wanted for rape.

JellySlice · 28/10/2018 11:28

If he escaped from custody, would they say "We are looking for a woman who may be dangerous. Carrie is 52, white and 5 foot 10 inches tall. Be on the lookout".

Yes. Exactly this happened earlier this year. Unfortunately I cannot recall enough details to google it. Was discussed here on MN.

Shockers · 28/10/2018 11:18

He was tried and convicted as a woman. I know he has previously been in Parkhurst, but I thought he’d be in a women’s prison now because he was referred to as a woman in court.

I do not agree btw; I think that if you use your male body to sexually assault someone, then you should be tried and punished as a male.

Is he in a male prison?

charlestonchaplin · 28/10/2018 11:17

You're right Popchyk. I thought you were referring to the press article. I missed the fact you were referring to a statement by the police.

FekkoThePenguin · 28/10/2018 11:10

A trans woman was recently murdered by a lowlife.

No one ever suggested for a minute that the victim was a 'women' it was alway very clearly stated that the victim was a trans woman, or 'Fred who went by the name of Mary'.

No outcry apart from transactuvists who went to great lengths to point out that the victim was indeed trans as it suited their narrative of transpeople being in danger, although from what I remember the poor victim was working as a prostitute (who definately are at high risk of violence). Plus the murdered was a man. Not a woman.
