Famous undeclared GC people?

Who do you think might be gender critical on the quiet? David Baddiel has just posted something about polyamory on a twitter thread about the doxxing of a GC uni professor. I think he must see this is all Pomo nonsense. Obviously we have Graham Linehan who’s been a compete star.

But are so many other intelligent, critically thinking famous people out there, especially the comedians, there must surely be some who are desperate to call out TRA bullshit. Where are they all hiding?

Brian cox has commented, it was possibly on one of Graham Linehan or Robert Webb's tweets...? damn memory...

ProfessionalBarren · 27/10/2018 13:09

Brian Cox is exactly the kind a rational scientific mind that it would be so beneficial for people out there to see being gender critical. Quite how people like Richard Dawkins can sit out of this debate I don’t know. He’s said some very inflammatory things in the past (that I don’t agree with at all) so he’s obviously not afraid of bad press. He must seriously look at the whole gendered souls, sex transubstantiation bullshit and think ‘Yeah, totally makes sense’ Hmm

Boy George was on topic last I saw

Ricky Gervais did delete a controversial trans-related tweet though - never seen him do that about any other subject!

cockblocker · 27/10/2018 13:07

Whatever happened to 'there's no such thing as bad publicity?' or ''There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.' Or does that only apply to Z-listers?

GenderApostate · 27/10/2018 13:04

Gia Milinovich ( married to Prof Brian Cox) is but she has a locked twitter and carefully screens potential followers. Bit disappointed that Brian never comments but I suppose he’s usually off all over the world filming .

ProfessionalBarren · 27/10/2018 13:04

I’d not seen anything from James Dreyfus, off to have a look, thanks!

OP posts:
Gacapa · 27/10/2018 12:59

James Dreyfus and Julie Burchill have been excellent.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 27/10/2018 12:53

Sorry that was a reply to PlantsArePeopleToo - the thread has moved on somewhat!

ProfessionalBarren · 27/10/2018 12:52

The consequence to celebrities or others with a high profile (eg journalists, academics) is certainly an issue. Look what’s happended this week in academia - rape threats, doxxing and sacking. It’s a terrifying climate.

And of course here I am posting anonymously because I too am afraid of incurring the wrath of TRAs. It just feels like some additional support from those with a bit more power and influence could change the tone of this (non)debate.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 27/10/2018 12:52

I think having first hand experience would help to really understand the deep sense of visceral fear some women must feel being in an enclosed space with an unknown man but I guess what I mean is that you don't need to have experience to see the risks and how safeguarding can be compromised. DH also sees it although perhaps it bothers him less as he will never need to access those spaces whereas I might one day.

Maybe we get it on a head level whereas if you've been there you get it on a heart level too.

cockblocker · 27/10/2018 12:45

PrincessButtockUp - no doubt it is, I'm afraid to post anything myself and I don't have a platform the way that these people do. I still don't feel it excuses remaining silent whilst women's rights are being trampled over, it only shows that they are prepared to only speak up and stand by their principles when they know in advance that their opinions are going to be popular and they have nothing at stake or else turn a blind eye, how pathetic.

VintageFur · 27/10/2018 12:40

Because if you or I hold a "controversial" opinion, nobody outside our immediate circle gives a shit.

If you're a sleb then your controversial opinion could see your picture in the front page of the rags and your name smeared. Look at the way Morrissey (?) Has been sneered at for talking about immigration.

Your need the hide of a rhino not to let that hurt you or scare you. Gervais I'm looking (for once in admiration) at you.

IdaBWells · 27/10/2018 12:40

The polls that have been done show the majority of people in the UK do not agree with self-ID and they classify people by sex. They are willing to accept those who prefer to present as a different gender but not reclassify people with penises as women and people with vaginas as men.

The trans activists with all their constant abuse and bullying have communicated that a tiny but apparently very scary and potentially violent, although almost certainly irrelevant and middle aged TERFs (women) must be silenced. So it’s propaganda, people are confused. They don’t understand who the scary monster TERFs are and they think their own view is in the minority when it is very much the majority view.

That is the message that needs to get out there. Of course when Posie can’t even put up a poster with the definition of woman it shows how determined they are to silence us all. It is so unbelievable that we are in this Orwellian world.

PrincessButtockUp · 27/10/2018 12:36

Being doxxed must be terrifying whoever you are. If you're famous, and may be at risk from obsessive fans as well as Trans activitists, the fear of being doxxed might take in an extra dimension.

citiesofbismuth · 27/10/2018 12:35

They shouldn't allow themselves to be silenced.

We're up against npc bots who are incapable of thinking critically and who reject science, how hard can it be to put these people back in their boxes? They are exactly like the flat earthers.

You can clearly see how the Nazis managed to get away with what they did. How is medicating, operating on and ruining children's lives any different from eugenics and the eradication of the sick and disabled prior to WWII? That became a mainstream, accepted practise amongst the medical establishment of the time, with doctors too scared to speak out.

Neutering youngsters who are autistic is no different, it just has a few pink unicorns attached to make it seem less sinister.

PlantsArePeopleToo · 27/10/2018 12:35

Hmm, I think it helps to have first hand experience actually. That's often why men don't tend to get it either.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 27/10/2018 12:34

I have never had to use a shelter or rape crisis centre and I don't knowingly know anyone who has and the risks to me are clear as day. You don't need first hand experience to have empathy.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 27/10/2018 12:32

I think many are looking at the online abuse people like Graham Linehan have got and have decided it's not worth speaking out, they don't want to put their families' safety and their careers at risk. Also they may just be trying to work it all out - there are so many new forms of crazy being touted as fact that it can take a while to wade through it all and find your own solid ground. People in this country are generally brought up to not rock the boat or cause offence wherever possible and many people - famous or otherwise - would rather say nothing at all than risk getting it wrong and upsetting people. Especially given the media pile on when someone dates speak out against the woke norm.

PlantsArePeopleToo · 27/10/2018 12:31

Child star Emma Watson has never had to use a homeless shelter or a rape crisis centre and probably doesn't know anyone who ever has

Whereas JKR probably does. So she understands the risks.

SPOFS · 27/10/2018 12:29

I'm interested in the thoughts of people like Malala. I'm sure she gets it, and she's obviously very brave too, yet she hasn't said anything either way I think?

cockblocker · 27/10/2018 12:26

I think if I hadn't had a relationship with someone who is trans and seen the ways in which TRA conflicts with feminism in all of it's misogynistic glory, I probably would have gone along with the TRAs too. I initially welcomed gender identities such as non-binary as they represented how I feel about myself, and a lot of younger people will see this as freeing themselves from the shackles of gender and celebrating diversity. Child star Emma Watson has never had to use a homeless shelter or a rape crisis centre and probably doesn't know anyone who ever has, she can't see it the risks. For those who actually are GC and are remaining silent, it's sheer cowardice and fear of damaging their careers. People are showing their true colours through this debate.

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 27/10/2018 12:25

Frances Barber

She has been amazing recently - takes no prisoners

PlantsArePeopleToo · 27/10/2018 12:23

But I always got the impression from Emma Watson's speeches and the things she said that she understood that women were oppressed because of their biology.

In her HeForShe speech at the UN she even says how she was lucky because her parents didn't love her any less because she was born a daughter and not a son but some others weren't so lucky. How does she think parents know which children are born sons and which ones are born daughters if not by biology? Somebody should ask her that.

bluetitsaretits · 27/10/2018 12:21

Biology I find it puzzling too. I think that those wishing to promote this ideology have a firm footing in positions of influence in the media. For celebs, this means that being openly GC would be career ending as well as leading to a torrent of online abuse that could spill out into real life.

So yes, I think many are scared. I would also like to think that some are playing a long game and are waiting to sense enough of a change in the tide to feel they will have a chance of actually being heard and understood.

It's a delicate dance, but for some it may be more effective to wait until more people know what you're talking about about then subtly raise the subject and make pertinent points to a larger audience -not so easy if you've already been labelled a bigot and silenced.

ProfessionalBarren · 27/10/2018 12:21

When it comes down to it, they don't want to think about how women have to constantly monitor their own safety, it depresses them, the poor poor boys This has to be a big part of it and that’s so so depressing to me. I was trying to explain to my husband about the fear of walking alone at night and it took so long for him to get it. But he’s an intelligent, kind, liberal man but he struggled hugely with the idea that every man is a potential threat to women in that situation.
