Gather LM is saying that they had to give up the previous post because they left the area (to go to Goldsmiths) but they're now standing for the women's officer post in Lewisham Deptford CLP. Voting is on Sunday, apparently.

Role model? Authentic woman? I’m going to shop to buy wine!

DeRigueurMortis · 28/10/2018 18:50

I'm pleased by this result.

What it demonstrates is that experience and integrity matter in real world politics.

VickyEadie · 28/10/2018 18:45

pombear

Correct.

pombear · 28/10/2018 18:44

Congratulations to Gill.

In amongst this, what I've found yet again fascinating is the words used by trans-activists.

Some of the Lewisham mob have used the term vile transphobic abuse that was apparently aimed at Lily and Lily's supporters.

Repeated, again and again.

But all I have seen, and I've been watching closely (including the stuff that's quickly hidden on the Lewisham Momentum page as being 'abusive', ie 'not fully behind Lily as a candidate), is women, and some men, calmly questioning why a biological male, recently moved to the local area, is the right choice to encourage local women to become more involved in Labour politics.

No 'vileness' unless:-

Vile abuse now seems to = women calmly questioning dogma.

Vile abuse now seems to = women calmly asking questions when they don't feel comfortable with a political point of view
Vile abuse = women calmly concerned that the 'transwoman' perspective is somehow more important than the 'woman' experience
Vile abuse now seems to = women speaking out of turn.

I've witnessed truly vile transphobic abuse on other areas of social media, usually doled out by males. These truly abusive, harmful words are usually ignored and rarely challenged by trans activists. (I'm being kind, to be honest, the threads I've seen with really properly awful transphobia from men are tumbleweed from the trans activists)

Strangely, those who are really being vile are not the audience that trans activisits choose to try to shame, hound, dox, force out of jobs, spaces, etc.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 28/10/2018 18:40

It looks as though the wheels are coming off Madigan's nascent political career.

VickyEadie · 28/10/2018 18:40

My jaw is still on the floor at those tweets by someone claiming LM would have represented women better than Gill, what with LM being an 'authentic woman' and all.

Somebody - anybody - wake me the fuck up from this 'through the looking glass nightmare', will you?

FekkoThePenguin · 28/10/2018 18:35

Iily really doesn't get it? Wait until better pets come along and they are no longer exotic flavour du jour. Boo bloody hoo.

FloralBunting · 28/10/2018 18:25

Yes, little women, get it in yer 'eds. Transwomen are more authentic and able to understand so much more than you lot.

They indeed have the full feminine experience. You are only here to make up the numbers because generals need footsoldiers.

So over this. Madigan hasn't even the grace to congratulate someone, it's all about what a 'shame' it is that Madigan has been 'disenfranchised' (oo, big word there, mate, don't think it means 'I didn't get elected because a vastly more qualified woman did instead')

FekkoThePenguin · 28/10/2018 18:24

We watched The Life of Brian today. Dear God - Loretta!!!!

RiverTam · 28/10/2018 18:23

Fekko I think the same could be said of a lot of trans identifying people, the current silencing of dissent means they are surrounded by yes-people most of the time, and they’re all in for a shock when they step out of that affirming, validating bubble. And I would guess that a lot have poor mental health in one way or another which makes it even worse.

Pamspeople · 28/10/2018 18:21

A role model?? Telling women to fuck off? That was the same LM wasn't it, who said that? Who hasn't got the maturity to congratulate the winner?

LangCleg · 28/10/2018 18:17

even I, as a biological woman, wouldn't feel I could be the best representative as a woman's officer as I don't have children

I think there is a bit of a misconception about the Women's Officer role. Women's officers are supposed to ensure that women are heard and represented within the CLP itself (so it isn't a boys club) and to make the CLP a welcoming place for women so that more join the party. Also to do some consciousness raising so that women members are more confident about activism.

I have to say, I feel that Lily's totalitarian and exclusionary attitudes towards wrongthink in women make Lily entirely unsuitable for the role.

FekkoThePenguin · 28/10/2018 18:10

Jackie Jackson needs re-education (or they are massively taking the piss - hard to tell these days).

sorenipples · 28/10/2018 18:06

Lewisham momentum have re tweeted lily's "Shame I didn't get it" post and not posted congratulations for Gill the momentum member who did .

Then Lily's post has this kind of comment about it being a shame an authentic woman wasn't elected.

JoanSummers · 28/10/2018 18:01

I just read that Madigan didn't win this or a position in their student union. What they did win was women's officer for goldsmiths labour, which they stood for unopposed. I could be wrong but I can't imagine that goldsmiths labour have that many members?

FekkoThePenguin · 28/10/2018 17:55

Someone really needs to take Lily to one side and have a quiet word. Lily is used to getting what Lily wants/people to say because they are manipulative and play the victim card. This won't end well.

concretesieve · 28/10/2018 17:54

So - of course - the implication is that Lily didn't win because Lily is trans. That others were elected because they spoke about local and women's (maternity !! - the bigots) issues for the main local LP women's organisation - the horror!

cockBlocker · 28/10/2018 17:48

(Not to say other women without children couldn't do the job btw).

Fallingirl · 28/10/2018 17:47

Labour need to look at the bullying that went on here by momentum

Absolutely this. They won’t though, but that might be a mistake so big, that it may cost them the next election, at least if it comes soonish.

I think Labour is under estimating women’s feelings on this very badly.

cockBlocker · 28/10/2018 17:44

This whole discussion has made me think that even I, as a biological woman, wouldn't feel I could be the best representative as a woman's officer as I don't have children. I simply wouldn't have an ounce of first hand experience to draw on to represent women well in this way and thus wouldn't feel best suited to the job. It's sheer -male- arrogance that a 20 year old student only recently moved to the area who only wants to talk about their own -male- issues would think they are a suitable candidate. It beggars belief that others can't see that.

PerthaBley · 28/10/2018 17:35

How could LM get "re-elected" in a completely new area?

CarolDanvers · 28/10/2018 17:31

Everything is a personal attack on on poor old “Lil” isn’t it? Not just a perfectly normal and democratic process. Big baby 👶 🍼

Callmejudith · 28/10/2018 17:18

Someone who replied something like “aren’t you going to congratulate Gill” got immediate blocked

hellandhairnets · 28/10/2018 17:16

I personally think we should be working towards political representation that is more reflective of modern Britain and that includes transpeople, but simply lumping Transwomen in with women isn’t the appropriate way to do it.

See, this is what I think too. It would mean trans people advocating for their own rights and needs alongside women advocating for theirs. Rather than pretending the issues for both groups are identical, one subsuming the other (guess which?) and helping nobody in the process. Surely a side-by-side approach would be better, accounting for both and encroaching on nobody else's rights?

I'd like to say "I don't understand why trans activists aren't pushing for this" but sadly, I can see exactly why, and it's clear it's not about trans rights at all. It's about dismantling women's.

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/10/2018 17:11

Congrats to Gill. Smile

Hope LM was gracious and accepted defeat and offered her congratulations to the rightful winner.
