Gather LM is saying that they had to give up the previous post because they left the area (to go to Goldsmiths) but they're now standing for the women's officer post in Lewisham Deptford CLP. Voting is on Sunday, apparently.

Bonions thanks for that screenshot. So yet again little Lily is being a completely vacant mouthpiece for something they have never experienced, will never experience, and have not actually done anything for, bar an inappropriate gimmicky photo.

Beggars belief.

I made my own photo...

Transvestite and transsexual. That's the terminology we used. Now the kids seem to think they can change sex by wishes. Or by sticking a pink bow onto one of your trainers, apply some red nail polish to your bitten finger nails and dying your long hair blonde - so was this a man or a woman I stood next to at the bus stop today? I'd say a man but who the hell knows these days?

Gncq · 24/10/2018 15:42

^ you know for the first time I feel hurt and distressed actually referring to this person as a transwoman. There's nothing 'woman' about them. They are a pisstaking dude. Not even a dude in a dress or a dude in a wig. Just a dude dude.

Gncq · 24/10/2018 15:40

CAAKE
Just... wow.
As if for starters a TW such as Lily will ever experience period poverty!
As for all the rest that 'pertain directly to having female anatomy'.... fuck me who do these people think they are!

cardibach · 24/10/2018 15:32

I’ve just been a bit brave and shared CAAKE ‘s screenshot I my CLP Women’s Forum page. I await COMPLIANCE. Our candidate last GE was a woman and is quietly gender critical, so we’ll see.

OMG! Voting! Whoever allowed voting?

From the outside it seems Momentum want to get rid of actual women

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 24/10/2018 13:23

I don't understand how party politics works at local level and I certainly don't understand Momentum.

Have I got this right, though?

The Lewisham Deptford Constituency Labour Party has officers who get elected by the membership once a year.

Anybody could put their name forward and put out a statement explaining what they have to offer. Presumably some years only one person stands and gets elected by default, other years nobody does and there has to be a bit of arm-twisting, some years there's actually a contest.

But now we have Momentum sending through an approved list to its members as its slate. To get on that slate it's not enough to be a Momentum member/activist. You have to be the one the central leadership most favours.

So members are in the odd position that there are two Momentum candidates to choose from when they vote for their new Women's Officer. Are there any other candidates?

One of the Momentum candidates has lived in the area for decades and has a terrific track record of grass roots activism.

The other one doesn't. But that's the one favoured by Momentum leadership.

Is Momentum so totalitarian that they will be watching who people vote for? Is it a secret ballot?

None of this makes me want to vote for Labour, it's almost needless to add. This isn't democracy as I understand it.

KatVonGulag · 24/10/2018 13:18

Words can not even begin to describe my anger over this.

Why have these posts if they are meaningless? Imagine I stood for lgbt officer? According to stonewall I'm a lesbian (as my hubbie cross dresses sometimes...I know right). Imagine the arrogance id have to have to imagine I could speak for lgbt people.

Lily is being used, and the pressure will be too much. That is a clearly vulnerable individual.

So fucking cross

FekkoTheLawyer · 24/10/2018 13:09

What is their justification though? They want a trans pet or someone to actually do something for women... Ohhh huh.

smeerf · 24/10/2018 12:52

This becomes even more infuriating when you know who Lily is standing against (Below text is copied from Venice's post in a local fb page)

"Who will become the Lewisham Deptford Labour Party Women’s Officer?

Retired teacher, Gill Hart, is one of the women who saved New Cross Learning from closure in 2011 (by the Labour council) and has been running this vital community resource as a unpaid volunteer ever since. As well as being a hands on grandmother and a dedicated and active member of Lewisham Labour, Hart was also on the team who resurrected the legendary Fordham Park festival in 2013, having been a Lewisham resident since the festival’s heydays in the 80s and 90s.

Or 20 year old Lily Madigan who moved to Lewisham last month to start a politics degree at Goldsmiths. Madigan was the first trans Women’s Officer in the Labour Party in the Tory/UKIP stronghold of Rochester and Strood and was last week elected as LGBT officer of Brockley branch Labour Party.

Despite Gill’s decades of community work and experience (and Momentum membership since its conception in 2015), Lily has the backing of local and national Momentum and many high profile Labour activists but the decision will be made by ordinary female Labour members this Sunday."

I'll be voting on Sunday.

Endofthelinefinally · 24/10/2018 12:16

The spelling and grammar alone are irritating. That person does not know the difference between effect and affect.
It is such a shame we never here anything from the previously high profile, intelligent female labour mps.
Except recently when Yvette Cooper stood up and defended The PM against verbal abuse and ridicule.

milkymoonshine · 24/10/2018 12:09

"The very few issues that pertain to having a vagina, womb and ovaries" - fucking says it all! Very few?!

Misogynistic privilege 101.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 24/10/2018 12:09

Illogical, cognitively dissonant and insane bullshit. As usual trying to have it all ways, with the bottom line of 'just accept ffs that transwomen are better than you and you have to hand over womenhood quietly and bow down!'.

Fuck that.

And you don't need to bother, Ellen. Any woman capable of independent thought stopped being a member of Labour months ago. That party is as fubar as the Greens and the Libdems.

littlbrowndog · 24/10/2018 12:07

Omg that’s chilling
So the men now know better than women what being a woman is.
Ffs these ppl are totally totally bonkers

UpstartCrow · 24/10/2018 12:06

Thats fine; leave the only valid women to the woke bros who insist that TWAW. Its a partnership made in heaven.

CAAKE · 24/10/2018 12:02

So nice to have this person explain how TW are the only truly valid women.

(Not sure of the source of this screen shot but it's from Twitter re: FB discussion of the Lewisham-LM-momentum business).

Lucy Bannerman Times today:
'Labour members ‘punished’ over transgender Facebook debate'
(extract)
Labour supporters have criticised a “sinister” decision to freeze them out of a Facebook group for sharing an article by the former head of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission.

Rebecca Lush was among the women who tried to share the article by Trevor Phillips on The Labour Party Forum, an unofficial account with almost 40,000 followers.

In the article for The Times, Mr Phillips, a long-time Labour member, urged ministers not to give in to “trans zealots” over proposals to allow people to self-declare their legal gender.

Within 25 minutes of making the post, Ms Lush was told that she would be muted by administrators for sharing the allegedly “transphobic and offensive” material. She and other members are blocked from joining any discussion of the subject until tomorrow.

On its home page, the forum claims to be “an open, democratic, independent, unofficial forum for Labour Party supporters to discuss issues and policies,” where “debate is welcome” and “participation is encouraged, as is an open mind”.

Bay Whitaker, the group moderator, was accused of doing the opposite, when Ms Lush was reprimanded for trying to discuss the points raised by Mr Phillips. Ms Whitaker posted: “Moderator here. This article seems quite transphobic and offensive. I am going to leave it up because we have been asked by some trans members to NOT always just delete transphobic material because everyone is still learning about this. However I am muting [another Labour member] and Rebecca Lush for sharing this material on here.”

Ms Lush, 46, found the response “astonishing, sinister and deeply worrying”. She said: “[I] thought it was important for Labour members to see this important article and discuss it, but no discussion is allowed. They’ve silenced me and others by muting me so I cannot comment, defend myself or argue the case. These authoritarian tendencies should concern us all. As a democratic socialist I do not want to see behaviour like this in the Labour Party.”

When another female member tried to share the article, the group moderator muted her and asked her “not to share that kind of stuff in the future”.

The member, who declined to be named for fear of harassment, criticised the hypocrisy of the administrators. The woman, a party member for 30 years, said: “The policy has never been debated amongst members, and Labour politicians are colluding with intimidation and silencing. Many women I know are leaving and have left (the party) over this issue." (continues)

FekkoTheLawyer · 24/10/2018 08:43

This is pretty contemptuous and shows that they really don't like or rate women. It's telling that the tories have had 2 women PMs - the first female labour pm will be a boy.

Floisme · 24/10/2018 08:26

The Labour left think they have a divine right to women's votes.
