Appeared in my timeline, a friend is trans, but not medically transitioning-and sort of only part time living as a woman.
We have not discussed this issue-they Have no idea on my standpoint at the moment.

The Man With The Beard is back

Where to even start
Deliriumoftheendless · 22/10/2018 20:12

I remember drinking in a pub that had the bright idea of taking the doors off the cubicles. It didn’t last. Women didn’t really like pissing in front of stranger who were of the same sex class as them. I doubt they have been cheering for self id there.

I’ve been in countless toilets where the lock doesn’t work or the lock has been removed. I have found most women (myself included) have been quite careful to push it enough to see if a cubicle is empty and wait and see if anyone says “busy!”

I’m totally sure a man would do that and not use it for nefarious reasons.

Plenty of cubicle get phones slipped under them or peepers looking over. It’s illegal, but it still happens in mixed changing rooms.

And the last 3 gyms and one current one I was a member of you had to walk through the changing room and shower area to access the toilets.

It’s not about toilets, but the idea they are a safe space to allow men into is laughable.

Oh lovely. Another man who has no idea or experience of how women and girls feel vulnerable, and are raised and socialised to be 'nice' even when their instincts are screaming that something isn't right.

How great that he's "informed". He knows what it's like to have a man twice your age grab your breasts - in the middle of the day when you've left the office to go and get some lunch. He knows what it's like to be catcalled and have your body commented on by complete strangers when you're on your own and have to walk past a group of drunk men. He knows what it's like to be cornered in a lift, or in a dead end, by a 'handsy' guy who doesn't want to take 'no' for an answer and is bigger, taller and stronger than you are.

Yep - it's all about the dress. The dress doesn't symbolise the thin end of a wedge at all. And he's totally not mansplaining a thing that he knows fuck-all about because he's not and never will be female, shorter, lighter, weaker and more vulnerable.

Just. Fuck. Off.

Take your entitled male privilege and stop telling me and women like me, that we're wrong, that we're overreacting and that nothing will change. When was the last time you were sexually assaulted? How far into adolescence did you get before being inappropriately touched?

Fuck off.

There's a bunch of examples here:

@AutumnalFeelings my friends posted this image on his news feed-with high five hands, it's not his actual words.

I care more about people and their safety than what's between their legs.

I care more about people and their safety than if they carry a knife.

Except them carring a knife is what threatens safety in the first place.

AutumnalFeelings · 22/10/2018 19:51

He sounds like a complete dick, but if he's your friend it's a bit weird to share his name with no redaction on mumsnet? Pretty sure it wouldn't be allowed on any other part of the site, even if the poster was being a massive twat.

BettyDuMonde · 22/10/2018 19:38

I’ve seen this, thankfully only because it was shared to a GC group as a WTF? Moment, rather than on a friend’s timeline.

This is (to coin an Americanism that I’m not particularly fond of) a prime example of someone’s ‘privilege showing’.

I hope they have a sturdy pair of underpants on under that frock, because we certainly don’t need to witness any more of their maleness any time soon.

Bonions · 22/10/2018 19:35

freespeecher I hadn’t heard of chesterton’s gate before - thank you! Every day is a school day

FekkoTheLawyer · 22/10/2018 19:34

There was a time - simpler days you may say - when a man in a dress would just keep it for best, and wearing aroud the house with the curtains closed, and would be mortified if his mum found out. Apart from a glitches in fashion that were glam rock and new romantics but it's best to gloss over those fashion crimes.

gendercritter · 22/10/2018 19:34

What an absolute plonker. He doesn't get it. Lucky old him, not having to.

LangCleg · 22/10/2018 19:32

Meet the new MRA: same as the old MRA.

DoYouLikeBasghetti · 22/10/2018 19:30
Shock
FekkoTheLawyer · 22/10/2018 19:27
  1. he's scary looking
  2. he sounds like an entitled knob
  3. why does he want to go into a ladies loo (or does he wonder why a man who looks like this want to
  4. so he's cool with men in ladies loos. What about womens hospital wards, changing rooms, swim sessions, prisons, rape centres, refuges... Is there a line for him or is it all just a bloody big boy joke?
  5. 'stop being such a prick'
  6. 'If you kick us in the crotch do we not cry like a baby?' (With apologies to W Shakespeare)
hypnotizzz · 22/10/2018 19:24

girl raped in cubicle
This happened in a supermarket near me, a few years ago. It was busy but the toilets are down a corridor (as they are in many shopping centres) and the tills are noisy so even if she screamed it's possible no-one would have noticed. But it's the sort of place I should feel safe letting my young children go.

littlbrowndog · 22/10/2018 19:23

And anyroads how does some wokey beardie dude get to tell us what to be afraid of. The cheeky fucker

SlowlyShrinking · 22/10/2018 19:21

Ask him what THE FUCK he thinks it’s got to do with him whether men are welcome in women’s toilets? Ask him why he doesn’t volunteer to help acceptance for tw into men’s facilities. Ask him why he wants to exclude his gnc brothers?
Ask him if his kind opening up of women’s spaces also extends to prisons and refuges??

Fwend · 22/10/2018 19:20

Ask him if he thinks his Mum should be able to ask for a female nurse to do her smear test.

Then tell him she'd be committing a hate crime if she would prefer not to have someone with a penis stick their fingers inside her, if the new laws pass.

StrangeLookingParasite · 22/10/2018 19:20

"I care more about people and their safety than what's between their legs".

Well isn't that special.

I, too, do not even know where to start.

Getoffthetableplease · 22/10/2018 19:19

your misogyny is showing mate. Might be related to whats in between your legs, not your dress.

Grin exactly this!

Noqont · 22/10/2018 19:18

It's not for him to choose on behalf of women. Bet he's never been sexually harassed or assaulted. Unlike most women. What would he know? Tosser.

Getoffthetableplease · 22/10/2018 19:17

Just wow. A random man in a dress, completely missing the point. Ugh. I think Prawn has some good starters.

ProfessoressWoland · 22/10/2018 19:16

He got one thing right. "I have it super easy." Kind of disqualifies you from this particular discussion, O cis man.

GulagsMyArse · 22/10/2018 19:15

another man telling women how wrong we are.

Irrational fear, thanks mate, your misogyny is showing mate. Might be related to whats in between your legs, not your dress.

littlbrowndog · 22/10/2018 19:14

Yea United Nations say barrier to education for girls and women’s education is lack of single sex toilets
It is one of times when are very vulnerable
