Will someone please explain this to me? I went to use the restroom at a local restaurant today. I followed the arrow down a hallway. There were 2 doors with printed signs on them, One says "MEN". The other says "EVERYONE".
Tell me why I'm furious 3 hours later.
Just so tired

Well I've been to at least 2 restaurants which are 2 'everybody' toilets, both single occupancy. Would you avoid using them?

SignMeUp · 22/10/2018 20:07

OK update (I'm not on here every day). I went to review them on YELP and someone already had commented on it. So I added to that discussion. I posted on Facebook and it brought up a lively discussion with some friends who hadn't thought too hard about it..yet. So that was good. Also, I live in a small city in the US, so naming and shaming could hurt my livelihood. Thanks for the support. I feel a bit less crazy now.

Paffuto, I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t be able to cope with the unisex loos like the ones at C4. The only contact you would have with the opposite sex would be in a queue. (If there was one and I was at a fairly large event and didn’t queue so there are clearly enough cubicles). And the cubicles all open on to a corridor.

waxy1 · 21/10/2018 21:33

“A local restaurant” with no name.

The OP doesn’t return to the thread.

Budgieinaberet · 21/10/2018 21:25

I took my granddaughter to the toilets in the theatre.
The had male, female and gender neutral.
GD asked why we didn't go in there.
As she asked a woman with 2 daughters came storming out and went straight into the ladies.
I said to GD
Because men pee on the seat

paffuto · 21/10/2018 21:12

Good for you RitaFairclough. Just one problem, what about women and girls who don't want /can't cope with that? Or religious groups of women who aren't allowed?

BreconBeBuggered · 21/10/2018 21:05

I bet the men's toilet wasn't just urinals. It's the cheapo nonthinking approach to inclusivity:change the sign. I'd be off to wee in the gents if everyone else was forming a long queue, and nobody better dare try misgendering me with their objections. These tits are man tits.

RitaFairclough · 21/10/2018 21:04

I was at Channel 4 for work the other day. The loos there say 4 everyone and I did think ‘oh no’ at first. But actually they are very well designed with large cubicles each with floor to ceiling doors and a sink/hand dryer/ sanitary bin inside. (I did have to put the loo seat down though!) I have no objection whatsoever to using unisex loos like that.

xxyzz · 21/10/2018 20:55

I agree with naming and shaming, especially in reviews. I'd also make a point of asking the staff where the ladies was and when they say it's the 'Everyone', explain loudly and publicly how unsafe and sexist that is and ask them to explain their policy. I would do this very loudly in the hearing of all customers in the place. Then I would go and slate them on every form of social media and review site.

IKeepFlouncing · 21/10/2018 20:52

We need a thread to post just to post all the vile shit from TRAs it would fill up quickly too

Snowfluke · 21/10/2018 20:45

There HAVE to be better solutions to this.

However, I do understand that what they're effectively saying is that one area has open urinals and one is just cubicles.

Also, I think one can't complain about queues whilst simultaneously calling for the removal of urinals. ... I'd be interested to know how many MtFs would be willing to hoist their skirts to have a stand-up widdle though (using their female penis obvs) Grin

Budgieinaberet · 21/10/2018 20:38

Absolutely name and shame

PotteryGirl · 21/10/2018 20:34

Name and shame.

gendercritter · 21/10/2018 20:29

If all these woke people knew their history and how women have been treated in the past, they would be so ashamed.

I have a Baedecker travel guide from around 1900. In every section advising restaurant/clubs etc in the cities it actually makes note of the ones you can't enter if you're female.

People have no idea. Women have not been able to participate fully in society for most of history.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 21/10/2018 20:25

I'll be asking for the attention of all the women in the room and explaining what 'terf' means, and that basically the place doesn't want women in the room who has any questions about sharing a loo, communal changing room, hospital ward, prison etc with someone with a beard and a rap sheet of convicted sexual offences, and doesn't at all times put the wishes of men first.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/10/2018 20:06

If I see one of these signs in RL I will be reporting it as a homophobic hate crime.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/10/2018 20:04

They might as well say "We don't serve women".

Or 'we don't serve lesbians'. Since MERELY having a sexual orientation towards biological females is enough to get you called a terf.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 21/10/2018 19:59

Surely 'Terfs not welcome here' has crossed the line legally? I mean I know our police force are so woke they're hallucinating, but there is still law in this country. What if this said 'catholics not welcome here' or 'Labour voters not welcome here'?

What the actual fuck has been allowed to happen in this country?

nicenewdusters · 21/10/2018 19:48

I also think it would be good to name and shame. How about a Trip Advisor review as well ?

Juells · 21/10/2018 10:21

We need to know the name of the restaurant 😅

Did you see the photo of that oh-so-woke cafe in Deptford? Evidently 'TERFS not welcome here' signs are springing up in all sorts of places. They might as well say "We don't serve women".

AtrociousCircumstance · 21/10/2018 10:13

Actually please name and shame them. Let us know who to boycott.

AtrociousCircumstance · 21/10/2018 10:06

Fucking sexist bullshit.

Never go there again. Fuck them.

GulagsMyArse · 21/10/2018 09:10

Men get their own catagory and women no longer exist.

silentcrow · 21/10/2018 08:30

I went to a restaurant the other day that had two floor-to-ceiling cubicles, both marked MF. Identical, reasonably pleasant, although strongly perfumed. I figured it was ok, though not my preference. Naturally both toilet seats were covered in piss. And it was only early lunchtime, barely 1pm. I was glad my daughter didn't need to go, bad enough I had to clean up.

The cubicle I used was left with both Man Friday and FPFW leaflets.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 21/10/2018 08:15

As if the queues for the ladies' aren't long enough!

I was in some unisex loos the other day which I though was a great example of how to do it right. The queueing/waiting area was open and visible to the bar - so safe. There were three cubicles with full length doors - and no urinals. So everyone had to queue and use the cubicles. The grousing and complaining from the men unused to such things was only drowned out by the number of women laughing about it.

So I decided I don't mind unisex loos, provided they're designed safely and without urinals. Otherwise men will continue to be in and out while women, transwomen, and transmen all queue for a cubicle. If we have to wait, so should they!
