In the case study featuring Lily in the ‘Kinder, Gentler Politics’ report, Lily also says that the worst abuse comes from older men. Hmm.

Mumfun · 17/10/2018 17:29

Madigan can call anyone anything without any consequences. And MN changed that jokey title.

Hmmm

PollyEthel · 17/10/2018 17:26

Presumably this misspelling of Madigan

SwearyG · 17/10/2018 17:24

What was wrong with the title of the thread? Why has MN changed it?

Invisible1234 · 17/10/2018 17:16

They say that TERFs are really men because it's women not behaving as women "should"..therefore being stereotypically men...gender rules OK!

Saucery · 17/10/2018 17:16

I’m sure Ian Hislop has plenty to say on the subject. I’m not sure he thinks it’s advisable to give up his cosy BBC Satire n History career over it.

2BorNot2Bvocal · 17/10/2018 17:15

Areeq Chowdhury appears to present as male. How novel a man calling a woman pathetic for raising the online posting profile of one of the speakers.

BlardyBlar · 17/10/2018 17:15

I have noticed what might be described as a pursed smile from Ian Hislop when HIGNFY edges near to this subject.

I must have missed that bit!

Even if he’s not remotely interested in women’s rights, there are many things in this debate that I should have thought would be very appealing to anyone with a sardonic sense of humour.

BigotedWoman · 17/10/2018 17:15

I think with Ian Hislop he doesn't care enough. He could make a stand, even if on the free speech issue etc rather than women's rights angle. If he got sacked it'd shine more light on the issue etc and it's not like he'd struggle for money. Personally I think HIGNFY has had its day, though obviously it's a nice earner for Ian and Paul Merton.

merrymouse · 17/10/2018 17:08

Well I’m sure it’s not the first time that somebody has tried to insult a radical feminist by calling them a man. Usually it’s not the kind of remark you expect from a Labour Party Women’s officer.

R0wantrees · 17/10/2018 17:07

Why aren't people like Ian Hislop shouting loudly about this on HIGNFY?

I have noticed what might be described as a pursed smile from Ian Hislop when HIGNFY edges near to this subject.

I suspect Private Eye may have a great deal to say at some point in the future.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 17/10/2018 17:04

We've been transed. Grin

But then we must all be BRAVE and STUNNING and indulged at every turn!

SwearyG · 17/10/2018 17:03

Well I screwed up that link didn’t I

SwearyG · 17/10/2018 17:02

Area Chowdhury chief exec of webroots [[https://webrootsdemocracy.org/people/]] was the chair.

Badmoonsarising · 17/10/2018 17:02

Oh my! Would love to know who wrote that - would also love to be a fly on the wall when they’ve been discussing White and McKinnon the past week.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 17/10/2018 16:56

LM is wrong if he thinks women are all sugar and spice, has LM not heard of transnorthern women? I'm guessing not, how transnorthernphobic of LM.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/10/2018 16:48

Who was the chair?

PackingSoap · 17/10/2018 16:43

I suspect what LM is saying is that we are all "men" in gender terms because we can't possibly be "women" because women are sugar and spice and all things nice.

As we are being all slugs and snails and puppy dog's tails because we disagree with LM, we must be men, init?

We've been transed. Grin

DeRigueurMortis · 17/10/2018 16:37

I think more and more people are starting to see the irony of what many activists are peddling.

You really are outside the scope of reason when PE start taking an interest.

As a pp said, I don't think is about PE supporting women's rights, rather it's part of an ongoing campaign to highlight hypocrisy.

OlennasWimple · 17/10/2018 16:32

I think that statement about terfs being men blah blah blah knocks off most of the laws of misogyny in one fell swoop

ToeToToe · 17/10/2018 16:21

I don't think Hislop particularly cares about women's rights, or women being abused online. He just saw through the bullshit.

Can't believe the called you 'pathetic' Sweary Shock Is that their demonstration of kinder, gentler politics...?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 17/10/2018 16:10

These people are extraordinary. If you want to be free to abuse people online without anyone challenging you over it then why on earth set up or front an anti-online-abuse forum?

deepwatersolo · 17/10/2018 16:08

pennydrew, they probably go for mumsnet because.... most mums are men? Wink

groundcontroltomontydon · 17/10/2018 16:04

Why aren't people like Ian Hislop shouting loudly about this on HIGNFY?
It would never make the woke edit

LangCleg · 17/10/2018 15:59

Wasn't it just for people who identify as practising kinder, gentle politics? It surely doesn't matter if they're actually doing it. You are if you say you are.
