Nicholas Hellen, Social Affairs Editor of the Sunday Times tweeted?

Shocking moment this morning when journalists invited by @DavidTCDavies to hear MPs and feminists discuss #GRA issues @HouseofCommons were told MPs asked not to be named - for their own safety. @WomansPlaceUK @Transgendertrd* @jameskirkup @Mermaids_Gender*

WTF? It's their job to cover the news! Covering a story doesn't mean they endorse it.

This is nuts.

I've had enough of all this for today. This latest revelation was the last straw. I can usually take a step back but this is so cowardly and seems so unprecedented. I don't understand it and to be quite frank , right now, I don't think I want to.

FlowersAndHerts · 16/10/2018 20:28

I got a holding email, and he'll get back to me with a more detailed response "shortly". In the meantime, he used the opportunity to add me to his mailing list to update on this "and any other relevant local issues"!

Budgieinaberet · 16/10/2018 20:28

Corbyn invited members of the IRA to the HOC straight after the Brighton bombing.
No one rang the police on him.

But Women talking about their safety
Criminal
How dare we
And how many of these bastard's made a big fuss of the Suffragettes

Fuzzywig · 16/10/2018 20:07

I emailed the 3 mp’s in my area yesterday. I am still awaiting a response.

OddBoots · 16/10/2018 20:02

I am sure I am not alone in emailing my MP to ask him to attend this meeting, I wonder what if anything he will say if he replies.

heresyandwitchcraft · 16/10/2018 19:50

Women really are the being asked to be the human shields by all sides in this, aren't they?
This is a problem that has been created by males, some of them actually dangerous, with an astonishingly strong drive to protect their own perception of themselves and prioritize their feelings at all costs.
Women are in the firing line, having to stand up for their own rights with no support, risking abuse, violence and harassment. Women are forced to cede their female-only services and accept the increased risk from mixed sex spaces. Women are being told their perception of reality is not only wrong, but hateful. Women are being told that their careful thoughts, evidence, data, feelings, same-sex orientation and materially-rooted identity are not valid. Women still have to fight just get their voices heard, with little official support, even though women's voices are saying what everyone is really thinking.
This is misogyny.
Women are being treated like shit, but keep going because they are courageous.
Thank you to all those who are speaking up Flowers

MPs weren’t scared into silence by the IRA, but don’t want Goldsmiths bluehairs knowing their names? WTF is actually going on?

How “marginalised” can a group be when MPs are terrified of them?

R0wantrees · 16/10/2018 19:48

Clever MPs will realise that there is much more political capital to be gained by standing up with David Davies than by remaining cowed.

Imnobody4 · 16/10/2018 19:46

These are the people who are supposed to stand up to Putin. Perhaps they should ask the TRAs take him on for them.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/10/2018 19:46

Again, who is leaning on those MPs, and why? I don't think it's the voters they're scared of.

scepticalwoman · 16/10/2018 19:43

Sorry for my withdrawn post. My mistake. It said (slightly amended) :
One could question why MPs are so frightened about criticism from these scary individuals and groups, yet are happy to condemn children and women to sharing sex segregated spaces with the same people. If they are that much of a threat to MPs, surely they must be seen as a significant threat to others?
I can't think of any other "political" groups in our democracy with this reputation - only criminal and perhaps facist groups? Quite astonishing!

EverardDigby · 16/10/2018 19:40

Hopefully it (MPs being scared) will be reported tomorrow and will peak a few more people.

Oldstyle · 16/10/2018 19:34

This is unbelievable. And equally believable. No-one likes to be attacked/abused but given that ordinary women have had and continue to have the courage of their convictions I would have expected more of our elected representatives. What the hell is going on.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/10/2018 19:34

MPs should be looking at The Times poll. 98% want to keep Women's safe spaces just for Women.
I hope Bexs's performance on WH this morning shows people what they want.
TRA' s don't want a GRC, they just want access to safe spaces.

If MP' s are too stupid to understand this then they have big problems

R0wantrees · 16/10/2018 19:29

naivetyisthenewblack thanks to you and MN Cake

LemonJello · 16/10/2018 19:29

Such a good point.

naivetyisthenewblack · 16/10/2018 19:25

Is there a precedent for this kind of cowardice from our MPs? Has there ever been anything like it?

Thank you MNHQ for editing the title!

(If anyone thinks the OP reads a bit odd, it's because I thought the journos were the ones hiding their names!)

It's mad. They can't possibly think querying self id will LOSE them votes - reality is the exact opposite.

PerfectPenquins · 16/10/2018 19:16

The mps are scared and we all know why yet they remain silent except for David Davies when women are threatened and harassed by the TRAs

naivetyisthenewblack · 16/10/2018 19:14

R0wantrees already done :)

It was the MPs who did not want to be interviewed by the Press and were fearful.

Its important to recognise this:

& possibly why:

naivetyisthenewblack might you consider reporting your OP and requesting a slight title change please?

naivetyisthenewblack · 16/10/2018 19:12

Oh I misunderstood it!

That's even worse, they're meant to be representing us.

I'll ask MNHQ to change the title.
