Re the "no problems in other countries", I think the reason we're not hearing more (though I have heard quite a few stories from the US and Canada) is due to a combination of:

  • Some countries which are claimed to "have self ID" actually NOT having full self ID, due to lots of exceptions etc - Ireland for example still segregates prisons entirely by sex apparently, among other things. (WPUK have done a good review of the Irish situation, though I've not got the link handy).
  • Women may not feel able to report issues due to the risk of being accused of bigotry or even hate crime. For example a woman who raised a complaint about being expected to share a room with a transwoman in (I think) Canada was told that she would not be helped because she inadvertently referred to the person as "he", and was told she might therefore be liable to misgendering charges from the transwoman!
  • Reporting of issues may be confused due to reporting guidelines or legal requirements to refer to transwomen as women (so the article would just read e.g. "woman accused of assault in gym changing room" for example, but would likely not be able to mention that it was a trans person).
  • And of course, our old friend, fear... (both on the part of victims and media, if they feel they would be at risk for speaking out).

In 2016 Liam Fox had dealings with former US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker who is cousin to the earlier mentioned Jennifer Pritzker.

It's a tenuous connection and obviously the Dems are no longer in power but it's a connection nonetheless.

borntobequiet · 16/10/2018 22:16

Mind you, Voice for Justice don’t seem very nice either.

borntobequiet · 16/10/2018 22:14

Don’t know if this is relevant or if it’s already been posted:

Annandale · 16/10/2018 22:09

Pulltheotherone, that 'Jeremy Hunt' link is terrifyingly batshit - it's pushing laetrile as a cure for cancer, which was always a minority interest but which was comprehensively disproved by 1982.

I think it does the GC view no favours to think of it as purely a 'follow the money' situation. Labelling those who think differently as only corrupt is not a good argument and leads down a rabbit hole of tin foil hat accusations. It's important to remember that lots of people genuinely believe transwomen are women, transmen are men. I don't know how they do this, but they do. Is it Penny Mordaunt whose brother is gay? She may passionately believe in the T with the LGB. I don't get how. But she may do.

Pulltheotheroneitsgotbellson · 16/10/2018 22:07

ToeToToe ...but it's so obviously the money behind this.

Follow the money is always a good strategy-especially with entitled men .

BigotedWoman · 16/10/2018 22:03

Out of that list then:
Michael Gove - hopefully listens to wife Sarah Vine, who is GC
Chris Grayling - proved to be inept several times, could be latest thing to push this through regardless?
Philip Hammond - look woke in a leadership bid?
Jeremy Hunt - as above + been lobbied by big pharma as HS?
Liam Fox - lobbied?
Sajid Javid - not sure if he his "big beast" yet, maybe up and coming

ToeToToe · 16/10/2018 22:01

Fucking hell, pulltheotherone - "Follow the money" is always so fucking true. The pharmaceutical companies are hugely behind this. Why wouldn't they be? They're getting a massive drip feed of life long customers. Jeez, I really do think I'm entering conspiracy-theory territory here - but it's so obviously the money behind this.

My actual MP is on that list.

FermatsTheorem · 16/10/2018 21:51

So this is the current cabinet:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-42615109

There seem to be hints in that stuff coming out of Talk radio's coverage that (a) this is someone utterly unexpected and (b) they're a really "big beast" in Tory terms. I really want to know who.

It is bizarre that it's happened to such an extent in America Materialist. You have constitutional protection for freedom of speech and expression, freedom to practice religion and follow whatever belief set you want. Whatever problems there are in American politics (and to an outsider, there are many), this always seemed like the one area you'd got absolutely right.

Pulltheotheroneitsgotbellson · 16/10/2018 21:44

I remember a few weeks ago, James Kirkup (I think) saying there was someone in the cabinet who is absolutely determined to get self-ID through. And that it was someone you really, really wouldn’t expect to take the woke position

Jeremy Hunt’s entire ministry is corrupt. 70 MP’s have received “donations” or patronage from big pharma, including Philip Hammond the new Chancellor, David Davis, Michael Fallon Liam Fox and David Cameron. Jeremy Hunt himself received £32,920 from a hedge fund that invests in healthcare firms.

ThisMadnessMustStop · 16/10/2018 21:43

Thank you, David Davies. I hope your courage is an inspiration to others.

Vanityflair · 16/10/2018 21:40

Could the MP who threatened him be Mike Freer?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 16/10/2018 21:39

Maybe silencing is easier in other countries.

GulagsMyArse · 16/10/2018 21:38

Angry its the chipping away at our rights and freedom of thought and speech that are really disturbing.

happydappy2 · 16/10/2018 21:38

it's insane-we know a man can't become a woman, just like a boy can't become girl, yet even discussing this is deemed hate speech. I guess I'm just surprised how feminists in this country can see what is happening, whereas women in other countries with self id don't really seem to be fighting against it. I could be wrong-maybe they're not being heard.

tobee · 16/10/2018 21:36

If there is a Tory member of the cabinet who is absolutely determined to get self id through my immediate thoughts would be that reason was they were being blackmailed.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/10/2018 21:29

Indeed, it's not a coincidence that those who either have personal experience of living in totalitarian states or have done a lot of reading about them are among the most alarmed by what we're seeing. This is how it starts. What are we sleepwalking into this time?

It was the reporting of the Jeska case that peaked me too. The reports in the Guardian. Their fawning over a white man who attempted to murder a black man who was merely doing his job was so jarring and weird - at first I couldnt understand why they were being so sympathetic and then I started reading around the topic and the scales fell from my eyes.

It gives me some hope actually. I was naive and a loyal Guardian reader. And yet their propagandising was what alerted me to this whole thing. It was so outrageous my critical faculties spotted something I hadn’t seen before. Own goal. Guardian. And if it happened to me it will be happening to others.

merrymouse · 16/10/2018 21:23

I also suspect that for many trans people in places like Canada and Ireland nothing much has changed. They still face prejudice because they don’t conform, and they are still trying to stay under the radar and avoid confrontation. ‘Self id’ isn’t a magic wand.

FermatsTheorem · 16/10/2018 21:19

Yes, I should add my thanks too.

Thank you David Davies. I don't agree with you on very much I would imagine, being at the opposite end of the political spectrum, but I value you standing up for what is right, and for free speech and for women's rights more than I can possibly express.

Butterymuffin · 16/10/2018 21:17

Thank you David Davies.

A white trans woman is in jail awaiting trial for the murder of two black lesbians and their son in Oakland
Just horrifying. And I had no idea. Meanwhile we keep hearing false stats about trans people as murder victims.

FermatsTheorem · 16/10/2018 21:13

A white trans woman is in jail awaiting trial for the murder of two black lesbians and their son in Oakland, where Black Luves Matter originated — and in any other circumstances there would have been enormous outcry, candlelight vigils, etc about this racialused violence.

This one is the most shocking and horrifying, for me. An actual multiple murder and still the national press aren't covering it.

(Shades of the Jeska case over here, where the press didn't report Jeska as being trans when that was the actual motive for the case. Initial reports made it look like "woman goes mad, stabs person multiple times." In fact the victim was the official looking into Jeska's testosterone levels. There was a racial element to that one as well. Ralph Knibbs, the victim, was black, and had as a young man walked away from a promising international rugby career because he refused to tour South Africa under Apartheid. Contrast that level of personal principle with the behaviour of disgusting cheats like Hubbard, Mouncey and McKinnon.)

GulagsMyArse · 16/10/2018 21:12

Its all quite sinister. Materialist. its funny on another post someone mentioned David Icke, who I always thought was a nutter, but I was watching him do an interview on talk radio ( youtube) and he's really right about a lot of stuff.
This whole thing links in with free speech, Orwellian stuff, mass surveillance etc.
He does say we have the power though, we are many.
