The Comment Awards just posted: 'The Comment Awards abhors the statement against shortlisted writer
@VictoriaPeckham
by one of this year’s judges,
@HelenCBelcher
. We are crystal clear on our commitment to celebrate a true diversity of opinion, writers, and to freedom of the press.'

Good on them and Janice shame on Belcher and Susie

LassWiADelicateAir · 14/10/2018 03:34

I don't know how the share codes work but Andrew Gilligan has an article today in the Sunday Times reporting that the NHS gender clinic for children and teenagers has criticised Butterfly in relation to showing a suicide attempt.

He also quotes a source from the NHS clinic challenging Susie Green's and Mermaids figures on suicide risk.

There is also criticism of Mermaids by a professor of sociology at Oxford , Michael Biggs saying "it is highly irresponsible for Mermaids to mobilise these tragedies [the tiny number of actual suicides] for the purposes of their political agenda"

Ereshkigal · 14/10/2018 02:50

Look at that misogynistic prick Ally Fogg falling over his own feet in his frantic need to jump aboard that bandwagon.

pombear · 14/10/2018 02:02

This is an interesting development. I think it may be another 'own goal' by TRAs.

Janice has high-standing with many other well-known and popular journos.

Who are now coming out and standing by her. (Glad to see it, as she deserves support).

Which, whether or not they agree with her stance, is spreading the issue like wildfire to people who wouldn't otherwise have been aware of what's going on.

FermatsTheorem · 13/10/2018 23:29

Though Janice's twitter feed has just given me a laugh - there's a poster with the twitter handle "Harrop ate my hamster" Grin

FermatsTheorem · 13/10/2018 23:21

A quick check of Helen C Belcher's twitter account reveals the following self description:
"Working to be the Lib Dem MP for Chippenham, Parent, Company Boss, Campaigner, Leveson Witness, ex School Governor, joint #13 on Indy #PinkList2013 (81 in '15)."

Yup, another would be lib dem MP. I recommend people go and have a look for themselves, to put this attack on Janice in its full context.

RedToothBrush · 13/10/2018 23:19

We are over due a defamation case on this.

I'm wondering if this will be it.

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/10/2018 23:13

I see Amanda Craig and Polly Vernon are supporters.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/10/2018 21:33

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/10/2018 21:04

No wait thats 4

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/10/2018 21:04

lang

Is it cunt?

LangCleg · 13/10/2018 21:02

Sue, Janice, sue.

Just like any other abusive person-who-was-not-born-female* - these arseholes can see that they are losing control and are spinning out into more and more aggressive and ludicrous behaviour. Like all abusive relationships, the most dangerous time for a woman is when she leaves.

Utterly predictable Duluth Wheel behaviour.

  • I think we all know what three letter word I mean there.
Velella · 13/10/2018 20:46

Sarahjconnor do you have a link to that ?

Charliethefeminist · 13/10/2018 20:45

It's sneaky, but the only way to demonstrate they are lying is to block them first, then you can view tweets and comment.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/10/2018 20:17

Any trans suicide in particular

Bearing in mind that tavistoke has only reported 1

Was it that one??

Helen Belcher met regularly with BBC

Trans Media Watch have a great deal of influence.
Not just on mainstream media but also politicians.

R0wantrees · 13/10/2018 19:51

Gulags Thank you for your kind words.

Its concerned me for a long time the impact of the tweets by some twitter TRAs. The nature of Twitter being that they are bounced about and create an impression. Its really concerning the roles that some accounts which would be seen as having credibility have been playing.

Whilst those who are blocked can come out and view contentious tweets, its impossible to engage in any meaningful way and challenge the untruths, allegations and smears. So the narrative is perpetuated, absorbed and fears are heightened.

Its so irresponsible.

Charliethefeminist · 13/10/2018 19:51

OK so Helen Belcher met regularly with BBC? Is that still going on?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 13/10/2018 19:46

I know we need to keep talking to people, especially about the GRA, but their side are doing a fantastic job, on a daily basis over the last few months, of exposing just exactly what they are and how they operate. All the crowd funding we could do in the world couldn't have paid for the kind of publicity they are bringing upon themselves.

GulagsMyArse · 13/10/2018 19:30

R0wantrees thanks so much for your posts here. I hadn't thought about the points you raise re blocking etc.

Thanks also for cross referring and encyclopaedic knowledge on all of this. your posts are always enlightening !

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 13/10/2018 19:26

Oh, they are showing everyone what a bunch of manipulative bullies they are all by themselves.
