Rachel McKinnon has tweeted that Rachel has taken the women's 200m indoor cycling world record.

It makes me so angry for the women who have trained so hard to have to compete against male bodied athletes.

The third place cyclist has tweeted that it isn’t fair. She’s going to take an enormous amount of shit for this for being unsportsmanlike- but I really hope this is going to be the start of a push back in sport.

Brava to her. It isn't fair.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 16/10/2018 07:08

McKinnon is a cheat and a fraud.

Fuck you, McKinnon.

StrangeLookingParasite · 16/10/2018 06:37

He is a fucking cheat. And I don't care if this gets deleted. Cheat.

OrchidInTheSun · 16/10/2018 05:37

Even, not Ben. No idea who Ben is

OrchidInTheSun · 16/10/2018 05:36

Bloody hell Materialist- even more of a cheat than I realised. And doesn't Ben think T levels should be tested as it's discriminatory

Belina · 16/10/2018 04:56

I think to stop all this back and forth between women and trans woman their should just be trans only sports, toilets or prisons. Its not isolating anyone it just keepingeveyone happy
If trans people advocated for their own spaces I am sure they would get it

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 16/10/2018 02:43

"We have no evidence at all that the average trans woman is any bigger, stronger, faster than the average cisgender woman."

Bloody hell their grasp on reality is very poor. Why are there mens and womens sports in the first place if this is true? Oh I forgot, the magic word 'trans' changes everything (apart from actual physical reality as evidenced by the race results). The emperor truly has no clothes.

The third place cyclist has tweeted that it isn’t fair. She’s going to take an enormous amount of shit for this for being unsportsmanlike- but I really hope this is going to be the start of a push back in sport. The second place gal is supporting Rachel - probably fearing team condemnation.

Interview with Rachel McKinnon here where they claim:

"We have no evidence at all that the average trans woman is any bigger, stronger, faster than the average cisgender woman."

Interview with Velo News

Apparently trans women competing with natal females is no different to a 6'4" female volleyball player competing against a 5'4" female volleyball player. It's just a physical advantage like any other and banning trans women from competing with natal women would be a human rights violation, the same as banning very tall women from competing with shorter women.

They also insist that it's not just about testosterone, it's far more complicated than that, as if that's a good thing. Of course it's not just about T-levels! It's about larger body mass, respiratory function, average height, muscle mass and so much more.

QuietContraryMary · 15/10/2018 23:18

OvaHere, there are checks, but the limit is 10nmol/L, which is around 30x higher than the average woman.

OvaHere · 15/10/2018 22:57

On the r/cycling page, cyclists are saying McKinnon’s made no medical changes at all, he’s fully intact with full male T levels.

Is no professional body checking this stuff? I think the current rules around testosterone levels are laughable and ignore all other advantages but surely someone should at least be upholding the rules that are in place.

nah the testicle thing was a joke. I have no evidence but i do suspect Rachel has had an orchiectomy. That's the level of surgery that most men consider to be 'reassignment' surgery from what I can tell, given the 80% keeping their cocks stat.

QuietContraryMary · 15/10/2018 21:53

"Rachel uploaded a video of themselves working out where one of their testicles popped out of their shorts. "

R u sure? Wasn't that just someone mocking Rachel with a 'shitpost'? I didn't see any testicle.

Lazypoolday · 15/10/2018 21:31

IIRC, Rachel has at least had complete surgery including an orchiectomy which means their testosterone is pushing zero - so Rachel is campaigning to have the limits on testosterone lifted completely, so they can take supplements

Rachel uploaded a video of themselves working out where one of their testicles popped out of their shorts. So they were competing against women when "fully intact" at one point at least

it's quite a few online news sites

comments massively critical

QuietContraryMary · 15/10/2018 20:16

"IIRC, Rachel has at least had complete surgery including an orchiectomy which means their testosterone is pushing zero"

Where does it say that?

We do have this on testosterone:

But no details on the route, and whether those levels have been maintained. It's quite possible of course, but blaming these games with these people is fruitless I think.

Correction - it was McKinnon and Bearden (another TW cyclist) in the article - someone just posted a link on the AIBU thread:

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 15/10/2018 15:50

Thanks FT. I get confused by all the double speak going on. On the one hand there are people saying that transwomen can compete if their testosterone is lowered, and on the other there are some people arguing that transwomen don't have an advantage from high testosterone at all.

FermatsTheorem · 15/10/2018 15:37

IIRC, Rachel has at least had complete surgery including an orchiectomy which means their testosterone is pushing zero - so Rachel is campaigning to have the limits on testosterone lifted completely, so they can take supplements.

There was a newspaper article where they discussed this with another transwoman (Joanna Harper, the biochemist who advises the IOC). Harper favours testosterone limits, but argues that all the other physiological differences are just one of those random things, like the way 5'2" me was never going to make it as a serious rower. McKinnon argues that testosterone limits are unfair.

I think McKinnon is living, visible proof that testosterone isn't the whole story, myself.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 15/10/2018 15:30

FermatsTheorem, Rachel said on twitter that "I'm still forced to have an unhealthily low endogenous testosterone value..it's virtually undetectable it's so low...way below the average for women". Is this just more lies?
