Here's your handy guide for how to fill in the GRA consultation '....'to make life a bit easier for transpeople' Hmm and it's written by a 'non-binary' writer. And the first line of the article is about how one in every two transpeople have tried to kill themselves

I'm not even surprised any more, I'm just sick and tired of this shit

@Elephantinacravat - good idea, I’ll do the same as I want them to know why but I’m not brave enough to post in the FB comments for fear of backlash.

Elephantinacravat · 12/10/2018 23:01

Saw this in Facebook and came straight on MN to see if it was being discussed. I’ve been thinking of unfollowing The Pool for a while now and this has just put the nail in the coffin.

Me too. I might message them and tell them why as well. They are totally misjudging and underestimating their core audience.

Thanks for sharing NoSquirrels. For me it started with the small things, but now I can't go a single day without thinking something horrendously transphobic like "women should be able to have a female do their smear test" or "men shouldn't be in women's prisons".

NoSquirrels · 12/10/2018 22:25

My name is NoSquirrels and I’m a transphobic shitbag. I found myself here in a series of tragic circumstances. Once I thought that being nice about pronouns was the polite thing to do. But soon I was reading more and more, and thinking more and more, and talking more and more, until I finally realised men (and women) didn’t give a shit that my children could be in unsafe places and situations because “notions of biology are outdated”. I started responding to petitions, wrote to my MP, put my name to letters for Girl Guiding.

I am NoSquirrels and I’m a radicalised transphobic shitbag*

*(I still think most trans people are just ... people and I would use preferred pronouns and wish everyone well to live their best life etc. Just am opposed to laws making life easier for scumbags and abusers etc. As I say, total transphobic shitbag.)

WokerThanWoke · 12/10/2018 22:12

That's like an AA introduction NoSquirrels -

  • "I'm a transphobic shit bag."
  • "Welcome to the group NoSquirrels"
NoSquirrels · 12/10/2018 22:01

Also, they are hella fond of the statistic in their articles, all of which usually link back to Pink News or other venerable publications who fact-check thoroughly...

NoSquirrels · 12/10/2018 21:57

Interesting. So, like the transphobic shit bag I am, I’ve just been reading the other articles by Vic Parsons for The Pool. In the earliest, May this year, Vic Parsons had been waiting for referral to the gender identity clinic for 12 weeks or so. They say

Coming out as trans is different to coming out as gay. Being gay, no action is required from others – but being trans requires other people to change the language they use to address you, their behaviour towards you, to question their own biases

Issue acknowledged in article 1 they wrote on being ‘non-binary’.

It’s compelled speech.

Elephantinacravat · 12/10/2018 21:25

If any of you lot are the ones who have been commenting on that article, I love you all! I am still too chicken shit to put my head above the parapet and say something, but I may have liked a couple of the comments Smile

Racecardriver · 12/10/2018 19:52

The pool has always been a platform for the soft in the head variety of feminists. I think it's one of their criteria on choosing submissions that the article must be waffley, lacking any rational though, lacking objectivity, lacking evidence to support opinions put forward on the article and, altigerher withoutsubstance.

terryleather · 12/10/2018 18:10

The non-binary guff has now officially driven me to drink.

Despite being female I may have a pint...oh the fucking oppression of my non-binary booze choice....

Lottapianos · 12/10/2018 16:38

'This non-binary guff would drive one to drink!'

I agree. I'm having a bit of a non binary day myself though. I'm wearing trousers, flat shoes, no make up and have been swearing a lot (can't think why). I'm also just about to paint my nails a nice glossy pink, and about to start bleeding out of my vagina. So, you know, I'm officially confused Wink

I am a married, middle aged woman, therefore I am oppressed because I cannot get a GRC which might actually prove useful if the PTB completely lose their minds and start trying to base reality on the gender fantasy, I can't get married unless I divorce and I am actually having to argue every day to retain rights that stop people discriminating against me.

Damn it, I am so damn special. Venerate me, underlings!

53rdWay · 12/10/2018 16:23

I don’t recall anyone asking me if I identified with a particular gender identity on some deep psychological level when I got married. Did I miss a tickbox? Confused

RepealtheGRA · 12/10/2018 16:19

I really, really want to know why the writer things he/she/they/ze (haven't read the article, have no idea what pronouns the writer likes to specify) can't get married. Has the writer actually tried?

I strongly suspect the answer is being a tedious arsehole that no one wants to spend five minutes with, let alone a lifetime.

Elephantinacravat · 12/10/2018 16:14

I'm so done with The Pool.

GoldenBuns · 12/10/2018 15:40

a flying fuck through a rolling donut - well that's a new one. Love it. Grin

terryleather · 12/10/2018 15:18

Cheers Lotta

Honest to fucking god, where to start with this shite.

Knowing nothing about this person, I'm willing to bet they're a white, middle class, tertiary educated female but no one can understand their suffering and oppression because they're non-binary.

They can't get a GRC cause they're non-binary but if they're non-binary why would they want one - if they're not at one of the two end points of the binary???
Or should there be a special non-binary certificate just for them and because they can't get one its literal violence and discrimination that no one officially recognises their unique specialness?

And yes they can fucking get married.

Tiresome woke narcissist, I can assure you that no one but you gives a flying fuck through a rolling donut about your non-binary identity.

.............fuck I'm feeling salty today......

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 12/10/2018 14:39

I can’t get a GRC, or get married, or be protected from discrimination

Idiocy: the gift that keeps giving.

NoSquirrels · 12/10/2018 14:37

That's it, though, isn't it, hackmum.

You can be whatever gender you like. You can be as old as you identify with too - just shave a couple of years off, just stop ageing.

A transgender woman will NEVER EVER have to worry about the actual discrimination against women of child-bearing age, so there's no downside to being permanently 29. And it's ironic that at 37 JD is squarely in the demographic of the "middle-aged transphobic Mumsnetters" and yet is never ever going to see our point of view because you can't identify back into the corrosive drip-drip-drip of the patriachy all other women got to experience when they were young and have woken up to by mid-late 30s. So it's no problem to "play along" on Tinder.

Ugh.

hackmum · 12/10/2018 14:24

I identify as 25. Anyone got a problem with that?

PlatypusPie · 12/10/2018 14:21

I have just filled in my response - the so called called consultation is not in any way aimed at the general public, is it ? Long and full of trips - I have designed surveys professionally and there is so much wrong with this.

Anyway, DH was wondering what I was typing away at and is now fully informed and is off to do his own. His legal beagle mind was just boggled. Every little helps ?

NoSquirrels · 12/10/2018 14:16

I know, Vickie. And the ONLY reason Juno is writing that article is because they were outed by their new boyfriend.

I particularly thought this was spectacularly dim:

I dimly recall a Sex and Evolution module from my psychology undergrad degree. The lecturer was a letch. I remember he told us that men are attracted to young-looking girls because our Selfish Gene evolutionary urge to reproduce is telling them that younger women are fresher, healthier, more ripe-of-egg for baby-making. How sinister. How Handmaid’s Tale. I do not have a “biological clock”, obviously, but I am highly dubious of anyone linking a woman’s reproductive status to her overall value.

The lecturer wasn't being a "letch" for pointing out an evolutionary truth that all women know about anyway. Perhaps he was a letch in other ways, but he wasn't making that up - pointing it out doesn't make him "dubious". It's supposed to make you think about this shit and consider it. Clearly it didn't work! Plus Juno did a psychology degree. Bloody hell.
