Did we cover this at the time? I can't remember. Article in inane wokemag The Pool by Cologne rape apologist Gaby Hinsliff about the GRA.

Don't read if you have high blood pressure.

Well I disagree there. I've never liked the horrible things.
I think it also depends on one's body type. I also prefer other solutions for now, (while my sister basically couldn't live without since being a teenager), but who knows what the future holds...

Oh one of those? Where the rape of a white woman by a man from an oppressed culture becomes a revolutionary act, like the German 'Net-Feminists' said? Frankly, they are really obsessed with pleasing men. Even when looking strictly at the refugee population, they always centered men.

When you pointed out to them that refugee women needed separate toilets and showers those 'feminists' would tell you to your face that you are a racist for insinuating the male refugees might be a threat to those women. (Never mind those women didn't dare to go peeing in the night. They were also racist, I guess).

And now, with her aged body she finds wearing a bra way more comfortable than going without... I believe, she called it the arrogance of Youth

Well I disagree there. I've never liked the horrible things. :)

I can't read this. I'm over half a century old. For the first 20 years of my adulthood it was made clear to me that I should cater to men above me, in the hope that I'd be given a leg up. Once, at a conference, a drunken older and more senior man made a comment about 'a leg over'. I didn't get it until I thought about it later - but he was clearly hinting that if I allowed him to fuck me I might get the odd crumb or two. I've now fought my way to some seniority - and guess what? I've been told to clear the way for younger men who have ambition to move into the niche I have created for myself - I've been moved to less interesting work to allow them to fulfill their ambitions - even though they will be taking over the fine framework I have created (and which I got no reward for). So, as far as I've concerned I've always been 'erased' - the only thing is that I thought I'd claw my way into some position of being recognised and rewarded for my work one day - but this turned out to be a lie.

deepwatersolo · 11/10/2018 11:49

Haha, that article reminds me of some old, respected German feminist I saw in an interview remembering how, when she was young, she and her peers threw the bras away and looked down a bit on the 'old bats' who obviously did not want to be liberated like that.
And now, with her aged body she finds wearing a bra way more comfortable than going without... I believe, she called it the arrogance of Youth.

yup

she will truly write whatever will be published

BlardyBlar · 11/10/2018 11:43

I know it’s been pointed out elsewhere, but the suggestion “people with cervices” is an attempt to be inclusive for transmen is a red herring.

Those doing the language policing are mainly TW. Women must never be used for its traditional purpose. It must always include TW and any time it doesn’t it must be replaced.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:27

Oh, I have some great memories of the aunties rolling their eyes at me when I was a gobby yoof. A good thing they did too, or my "keen but a bit clueless" stage might have lasted almost as long as Gaby's has, and that would just be embarrassing.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:26

I'm sure disabled people find the process they have to go through to get benefits demeaning too, and it's a lot more demanding a process than is expected of trans people even now.

Some of them are even men, Gaby, and they're not all old! You'd think you could find it in you to care about the young ones with penises, at least.

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2018 11:24

I'm not stepping out of the way for these pomo addled kids. Just like no one did for me and some of my stupid opinions.

I hadn't thought about the hormones, Arrenfan, good point.

It should still be on their records, though, so that automated reminders for crucial healthchecks happen without overworked GPs having to 'remember'. That was clearly a nonsense designed to try to make the 'cervix havers' advert sound reasonable. If there's a genuine concern that transpeople will get 'missed', surely that's an argument for retaining accurate records of biological sex.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:23

Trying to distance yourself from older women smacks of insecurity.

Older women are wonderful. The first person any of us ever loved was an older woman (our mother). Women who consistently choose pleasing men over solidarity with other women are in for a miserable life when they themselves age out of the category where talking shit about older women impresses their male peers.

UpstartCrow · 11/10/2018 11:22

I can no longer be bothered to wait for them to catch up.

Ereshkigal · 11/10/2018 11:22

The point is, Gaby, that many of these people don't have gender dysphoria which is why they wouldn't get a diagnosis and be able to change their gender legally.

but does mean trans people wouldn’t have to provide psychiatric reports any more, which many find demeaning).

I'm sure people with other serious psychological conditions find that demeaning too. But they still have to.

OP posts:
rightreckoner · 11/10/2018 11:20

It's not a feeling. I am being erased.

Haven't we told you before, Gaby - it's not about feelings.

heresyandwitchcraft · 11/10/2018 11:18

The "young" always forget that one day they will be the "old bats," too.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 11/10/2018 11:18

That first paragraph was supposed to be a cut and paste job in bold. Didn't work. Could this technical incompetence be because I'm old?!!!!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 11/10/2018 11:16

Contrary to popular myth, that doesn't make it as easy as waking up in the morning and announcing you’re a woman – it involves signing a legal declaration that this is a permanent change and doing it for fraudulent reasons would be made a criminal office – but does mean trans people wouldn’t have to provide psychiatric reports any more, which many find demeaning).

So waking up in the morning and completing an online form (which I bet won't take as long as it's taken me to do the consultation Confused) . So an hour? Safe in the knowledge that if you are completing it fraudulently, how the hell will anyone prove that.

I'm honestly really very worried about what's going to happen after the consultation.

heresyandwitchcraft · 11/10/2018 11:16

Ahem.... Isn't a huge feminist issue the very fact that older women are erased from public life? Whether in the media, or dismissed as old crazy crones?
This is adding to the ageist sexism that older women face. One of the first rules of feminism should be that you listen to your mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers. You learn from them. You don't have to agree with everything, but they have faced massive battles to make things better for YOU. They gave birth to you, sacrificed for you and raised you.
If you are such an entitled little brat that you cannot even consider why they are saying something is a problem, that they recognize trans activism has a clear pattern of misogyny, and return women the favour of seriously considering their feelings and listening carefully to their well-researched arguments - wholesale dismissing the wisdom of the generations of women with massive amounts of life experience acquired decades before you came along - then the problem, my dear, is with YOU.

BiologyIsReal · 11/10/2018 11:16

I'm a genuine 'older' woman and I am bloody sick of the assumption that we are all semi-demented dinosaurs.

Ageism - the last acceptable 'ism' apparently.

If Cancer Research wanted to be inclusive there is absolutely no reason why they could not have said "women and trans men" instead of "anyone with a cervix". But no, they were making a political point, though not so political that they said "anyone with a prostate" because that would upset the men presumably.

As Aspie said it's a similar attitude to that about older people voting against Brexit being bastards. Never occurs that a lot of them might have been people that voted for it in 1975 and and against it in 2016 when the EU turned out to be an entirely different organisation than the one they voted for originally.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 11/10/2018 11:13

As I trundle towards old baghood (I'm over 40 now so officially an "older woman" even though Brad Pitt could just about be my dad) I am reminded every day how women are only worth anything at all if they are still considered fuckable.
And there is a special place in Hell for young women who patronise and denigrate older women. Have some respect.

arranfan · 11/10/2018 11:04

If a transman "passes" and has a male birth cert and has joined the practice since starting to identify publicly as male (vice versa trans women re prostate etc), then it's not really about onus on a GP to 'remember'.

^^ Yes - some notable TW celebrities have tweeted about compelling the NHS to change the sex on their health records or to celebrate that the start of treatment means that the NHS changed the record...

However, tbh, given the amount of monitoring that should be done of anyone taking exogenous hormones, I'd be startled if this never came up. I wouldn't be allowed to take HRT after a certain age (I don't, I've seen this mentioned several times) so GPs who don't know would surely have people in for medication reviews and it might well be mentioned then.

TheLastMermaid · 11/10/2018 11:01

Sorry Errol, crossposted, and you explained it better than me.

TheLastMermaid · 11/10/2018 11:00

Interesting - "GPs might not always remember to call them (transmen) in (re cervical cancer"...

If a transman "passes" and has a male birth cert and has joined the practice since starting to identify publicly as male (vice versa trans women re prostate etc), then it's not really about onus on a GP to 'remember'. Isn't the stated aim to erase all previous references to natal sex and prohibit anyone from referring to it (hashtag literal violence)?
