Cwenthryth,

what I meant was that Sophie Cook, a white middle aged overweight bloke wearing a dress and without obvious skills might find it difficult to get a job, say at his local garage. I am sure there are societal prejudices about men openly wearing dresses, and that is what trans-women will be seen as by many men. The same applies to Aimee Challenor, who appear to have very little education, and to Lily Maddigan.

However there is an whole diversity industry which they can tap into. The BBC, Stonewall, Labour Party and others all seem to have a need to demonstrate their wokeness by having a token trans - even when they don't feel a need to have a token woman, or racial minority.

DH works for a properly woke organisation. Lots of time and money are being spent on ensuring that trans people are not disadvantaged or isolated. Which generally involves work for transpeople in training or consultancy.

If any of these myopic children ever travel outside of the Eurozone or the US think how shocked they'll be to discover that in the rest of the world pretty much all feminism is radical feminism.

This

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 12:11

As much as I get annoyed with the "bloody feminists" comments, if your only exposure to feminism had been liberal feminist stuff about sex work being work (including referring to trafficked children as "sex workers"), "microagressions", and "empower yourself by taking pole dancing classes" stuff then I can see how you might wonder why the focus wasn't on something a bit more important.

It is, and the campaign against self-ID is an excellent example of that.

Binglebong · 11/10/2018 12:08

I would imagine they are pretending the metro ad doesn't exist. Or at least the smart ones are.

Pink News didn't get the memo...

Rather proves my point. Grin

Turph · 11/10/2018 12:06

There is a lot of resentment towards "feminist overreach," which has been mainly driven by liberal feminists. If the public understands that many on the gender-critical side are just ordinary women trying to have a voice, then we stand a better chance. That's why Posie is so powerful.
This. Which is why, on this subject, party politics should be avoided also.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 12:06

Alice Walker is a woman.

Sophie Cook is a ...

KittyKlawsReturns · 11/10/2018 12:05

That's fine they can have trxns womxn - I'll keep the original spelling.

Additionally Maya Angelou and black critics writing about her and Alice Walker use womyn frequently and women/woman even more so I'm utterly unconvinced by the appallingly racist argument that either women or womnyn excludes black women. They include all forms of women they just exclude men NOT types of biological women.

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2018 12:02

Numpty mine is getting very angry too. I've told him we need men to start doing something. Unfortunately women don't get listened to enough, so it's up to men to bloody well get on board and start shouting about this.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:57

numptynuts · 11/10/2018 11:57

Just told Dh about this.
His response was “This is getting fucking sinister now”. And I agree

My husband made me jump this morning. He was reading an article on this quietly then shouted at the top of his voice:

"Transwomen are NOT women! FUCK OFF"

He's getting really angry about it now and also thinks it's sinister and dangerous, very dangerous.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 11/10/2018 11:53

That was to countess btw

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 11/10/2018 11:53

I don't see how Feminism is ever "white centered"? Confused Or "middle class" (the other thing it's always accused of it seems.)
It's just that certain people find it hard to believe that anyone who isn't white and wealthy could have the intelligence to care about feminism. Which is in itself incredibly bigoted-and also wrong!

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:47

"They have to be grifters" made me roll my eyes a bit.

Pippa Bunce seems to be doing OK.

Charliethefeminist · 11/10/2018 11:46

That was wimmin

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/10/2018 11:45

"The idea that woman excludes women of colour"

I am pretty sure this comes from the USA
And in particular the suffrage movement over there

"Women of colour" is itself a very USA phrase to my ear.

Even given that, the word women has never been defined anywhere in the world to exclude certain types of cunty people, despite the fact of various groups of people at different times (men lots of the time, white people lots of the time) trying to say that certain women were not real women and in fact in the racsim situation it was not woman specific surely > it applied to men as well.

Cwenthryth · 11/10/2018 11:45

in part because of problems transwomen faces, simply for being trans-women, the Sophie Cooks, Lily Maddigans and Amy Challenors seem to be financially reliant on media fees and diversity consultancies.*

We’re veering off-topic here, but what do you mean that these people rely on media fees/diversity consultancy because of ‘problems that transwomen face simply for being transwomen’? It seems to imply that transwomen face specific hurdles when accessing employment - could you expand?

Floisme · 11/10/2018 11:44

I always thought ‘womyn’ was a Private Eye pisstake (which my phone keeps trying to change into pusstake). And I was around in the 70s.

Elephantinacravat · 11/10/2018 11:44

I have complained. I'm on a roll this week!

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2018 11:43

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:39

In a different thread I suggested that TRAs may keep a spreadsheet in order to keep track of all the lies they tell. If they don't yet then you're welcome for the suggestion!

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/10/2018 11:37

"SC says feminists invented the word and happily used it "

BUT THEN went on to say it was for non binary people

So NOT feminists at all then

They can't even keep their own stories straight

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:35

At the risk of getting deleted, can my career enhancing frock be a bit more fashionable? There are only so many sacrifices I'm willing to make for the sake of getting ahead.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 11/10/2018 11:34

So now the transactivists are targeting race too...

StroppyWoman · 11/10/2018 11:31

I want to shop where the transwomen shop.
Their dresses give them magical powers of awards, careers as consultants and media spokespeople. Stunning and brave dresses.
My dresses stop me being naked. I want one of those career enhancing frocks, please.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/10/2018 11:31

The idea that woman excludes women of colour makes no sense at all given the existence of womanism as a less white-centred alternative to feminism.

I can only imagine this has been whipped up as another way to attack the word woman just as the bans on 'adult human female' adverts are.
