Oh my GOD!!! I wonder whether they will have a gender critical theologian on tomorrow?

What patronising BS. Wonder if R4 has a GC speaker lined up for balance, or do they not dare.

hackmum · 24/10/2018 14:16

I had the same reply too. No surprise that it didn't bother answering the substance of the question.

AnchorMum · 24/10/2018 14:13

I received exactly the same response today too.

It's a patronising and fairly pathetic reply from an organisation that doesn't seem to give a damn.

Again, the response didn't address my specific complaint - which was the inappropriateness of this slot being given over to a political viewpoint at a highly sensitive time.

I also said that it was part of a pattern of bias which had seen gender critical voices being silenced across the BBC with regard to this issue.

OldCrone · 24/10/2018 11:53

Correction - I've got the same reply. It had gone into spam so I missed it. I'll send them a reply later.

OldCrone · 24/10/2018 11:50

I haven't received a reply yet, but that reply wouldn't have addressed my complaint either. My main point was around the fact that the rabbi had turned what is supposed to be a thoughtful religious slot into a political opinion piece.

Last time I complained and they failed to address my issues, I replied with a further complaint to which they sent another crap response. This went on until they said I should take it to the next level, but I was pretty fed up with it by then, and felt I'd made my point.

Procrastinator1 · 24/10/2018 11:49

Same response here too.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 24/10/2018 11:14

Here is the response I have just received. I imagine we all have similar?

Thanks for contacting us about 'Thought for the Day', broadcast on 9 October.

Thought for the Day is a reflection on a topical issue from the perspective of faith. In her recent programme, Rabbi Laura Janner Klausner set out at the top that her personal situation was as the mother of a daughter who self identifies her gender as non-binary and for that reason she had responded to the public consultation on the Gender Recognition Act – which was the topical peg for her thought.

Some of the best Thought for the Days include personal experiences that offer first-hand insights into contentious issues; which we believe is what Rabbi Janner Klausner did. Alongside that, she acknowledged that there are people with strongly held views that differ from her own. Rabbi Janner-Klausner used the words such as “fierce” and “fiery” to describe the context of the debate. She also said directly that “asking questions doesn’t mean you’re transphobic” and that, “It’s legitimate to be curious, uncertain, ambivalent or disagree with this legislation.” Even though she reflected a particular view through her own family experience, she balanced it with her legitimisation of opposing views.

It is clear that this subject is important to people and will continue to cause debate. The Thought for the Day stable of writers is made up of people from different backgrounds, worldviews, faiths and life experiences. Part of the editorial balance for the slot is achieved across a period of time and it is just as likely another writer would take a different view to Rabbi Janner Klausner.

Thanks again for taking the time to get in touch.

None of which actually addresses my complaint...

Her personal experience doesn't make it any less biased.

The assertion that asking questions doesn't make you Transphobic is disingenuous. What she meant was it's OK to ask questions and I will tell you why you are wrong.

Not a surprise really though.

I’m an idiot, posted on wrong thread. It’s WH Feedback are featuring tomorrow.

borntobequiet · 18/10/2018 10:30

We should. (Any time I email a programme with a complaint I copy to Feedback, or if I make a complaint over the phone or via the website I tell Feedback as well. They must be sick of me but at least my complaints are more various now, they use to be all about the Today programme, mostly John Humphrys.)

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/10/2018 10:10

That's good news born. Perhaps we should all email Feedback.

borntobequiet · 18/10/2018 09:59

Feedback are featuring this tomorrow, apparently.

borntobequiet · 17/10/2018 19:53

Oh, and I complained about that too.

borntobequiet · 17/10/2018 19:53

They had the same person on Woman’s Hour discussing the GRA, even though what she had to say was largely irrelevant.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 17/10/2018 19:00

So why do we think there is a delay in responding?

OldCrone · 17/10/2018 18:54

I got the same reply today.

TorchesTorches · 17/10/2018 18:51

I got exactly the same email in response to my complaint.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 17/10/2018 16:10

I have received the reply below from the BBC

This is an update to let you know that we had referred your complaint to the relevant people and regret that it may take a little longer before we can reply. Please do not contact us in the meantime.

Although we reply to most complaints within 2 weeks we cannot achieve this every time. It depends on what your complaint was about and how many others we are handling, or may sometimes be due to more practical issues. For example a production team may already be working on another programme or have gone on location.

Has anyone else heard back?

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 10/10/2018 20:53

Has anyone heard anything from the BBC regarding their complaint?

NoSquirrels · 09/10/2018 17:17

It hasn't been uploaded to the TFTD page yet, but I'm not sure if that's standard or not. You can still listen to it on the Today programme listing - it's at 1.47.

Charliethefeminist · 09/10/2018 16:58

It seems to be there?

aliloandabanana · 09/10/2018 14:18

Interestingly, the recording is no longer available on the BBC website. I listened to it on there earlier as I missed it live but it's disappeared now...

I have complained, so I look forward to their response.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 09/10/2018 13:21

Yes, sorry, should have checked the name!

TorchesTorches · 09/10/2018 13:15

I have made a complaint and said using the religious slot has 'protected' her views from counterargument and debate. I asked for a GC commentator to be in the slot before 19th October and also a debate with 2 sides on Womans Hour also before 19th October.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/10/2018 12:30

You mean Caroline Farrow? You're right, she'd be excellent.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 09/10/2018 12:28

I feel for her too, but I can't see why that justifies going on Radio 4 and using Thought for the Day in this way.
