Just seen him referenced on a Fionne thread, so I looked him up. Erm, wtf? Grin He’s taking the piss, right? Is he taking the piss? Is it satire? Or not...because actually quite useful make-up tips. But what’s with the accent? I am so confused. Grin

Geordies say 'fillum' as well. No idea who this guy is but off to look him up!

Destinysdaughter · 08/10/2018 23:03

Haha yes I’ve seen that parody, it’s great! 😀

youlooklikeaclown · 08/10/2018 22:53
This parody is hilarious - now I have been binge watching Novympia's series of 'This wine tastes like crap'

Thanks for introducing me to John Maclean and also Fionne Orlander.

Love them. Grew up with Bowie and Bolan and men in high heels and satin and flowing hair and make-up and want more men to play like this.

My younger pro-trans friends (most of them currently estranged) seem to think I'm a real fuddy-duddy on this issue: there's eye-rolling and sighs of 'She's too old to understand.' They don't realise how old-fashioned and regressive they are.

Destinysdaughter · 08/10/2018 22:05

I’ve got similar colour eyes to him, I’m going to have to try some of his eye make up techniques as his eyes look amazing!

Destinysdaughter · 08/10/2018 22:03

Interestingly in one of his Q&As, he takes issue with using the word ‘Queer’. And that gender is very much of its time. He really gets it!

tediousnamechange · 08/10/2018 21:23

I'm finding him funnier with each watch - quite genius!

Thisimmortalcurl · 08/10/2018 21:06

He is brilliant and amazingly skilled

placemats · 08/10/2018 20:30

So do I Destinysdaughter

Destinysdaughter · 08/10/2018 19:36

I think he looks like Sophie Eilis Bextor. ( sp?) !

SpamChaudFroid · 08/10/2018 18:58

Those cheekbones! Envy

And he does furniture restoration as well!

Does anyone else think he bears more than a passing resemblance to the young Jane Seymour?

Deux · 08/10/2018 16:46

Oh thank you for introducing me to this marvellous man. So enchanting.

I’m from the highlands so the accent doesn’t seem that odd to me. It sounds as though he’s channelling the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie crossed with Stornaway. I keep expecting him to say, girls you are the creme de la creme.

placemats · 08/10/2018 15:43

Yy Janie That's a fabulous video.

TheWholeHog · 08/10/2018 15:28

Oh, FFS! 'I love that one' is not meant to be a question.

janie that was very profound how interesting!

Though I'd add it's not just femininity that's hated in history in Abrahamic cultures, it's women.

bluetitsaretits · 08/10/2018 14:43

Oooh nefarious juju -that's the best kind of juju! 😊

placemats · 08/10/2018 14:40

My favourite phrase now is 'nefarious juju' Smile

placemats · 08/10/2018 14:33

I could listen and watch John all day.

Filum is also a word in Northern Ireland.

hungryhippie · 08/10/2018 14:20

I've just spent an hour watching him because of this post! He is fascinating!!

bluetitsaretits · 08/10/2018 14:07

I love the word 'shuggle'! Smile

SophoclesTheFox · 08/10/2018 14:03

not at all bluetits!

I love the diversity of accents, too. Mine isn't strong at all, it's just Generic Central Belt (Well Spoken Variety)Grin

This one!

bluetitsaretits · 08/10/2018 13:49

sophocles apologies if my comment came across as a bit patronising -I live in the central belt so the islands accent does sound unusual and rather lovely to me!
I think a lot of people outside of Scotland don't realise how diverse the accents are- even the next town over sounds different to where I live. I find people's voices fascinating!

MrSlant · 08/10/2018 13:40

My favourite bit in the comments is where someone says he should teach English so 'everyone can learn how to speak in cursive'. Perfect.
