Given that nearly every university student seems to believe TWAW, will sanity ever prevail?

That's it really. They are tomorrow's politicians, teachers, lawyers. I am at a loss to see how we can turn this round.

When I came out as a lesbian nearly 40 years ago after separating from my husband ,my mother thought the sky would fall in !
I lost most of my friends , and when the so called friends realised they were wrong , I didnt want to know them ! And still dont !

In her last Few years Mum, was still expecting me to come to my senses and asked me in front of my girlfriend , have you got a boyfriend yet ?
Thinking if I put a dress on and grew my hair , I would conform to her view of normality ! Ha ha fat chance

like all the parents of us lesbians and gay men 30/40 years it was a phase we were all going through apparently ?

and the daughter my father forced me to give up for adoption when I was 16 is also a lesbian , I am happy for her , that she is happy and in a loving relationship

I can remember at an LGF meeting 35 years ago hearing one day we would all know someone who was HIV

and 25 years ago when LGTF came about how we would all know someone who was Transsexual

but it still worry s us lesbians , the amount of young women having chest surgeries , not taking hormones or having Hysterectomy's , but morphing into Demi Boi,s, using they /them pronouns but still in a relationship with another Demi Boi , but still planning children
we have all tried talking to them till we are blue in the face , they look at us old lesbians as if we are the mad ones !

If history has taught us nothing, its none of our business ! nobody has the right to impose their values on someone else's life
so don't fall out with friends over this , Politics or religion

PleasingFungusBeetle · 09/10/2018 00:11

Someone suggested on reddit that anyone forced to declare their pronouns should say "she/ him". That'll confuse them huh

But honestly, I think that the Internet gives a false impression on how many people of any age are really onside with the trans ideology

I think that saying "TWAW" just seems to me in many cases to be similar to people indulging a kid who says that they are a dinosaur - they're just playing along to be nice to the silly person, because they view them as pitiful.

If someone comes in and says "you are NOT a dinosaur, stop being silly" - they view that person as mean and nasty. But not because they really think that the kid is a dinosaur

I find it fascinating what you can get people to believe (I grew up very religious and am now an atheist)

Me too; it's made me aware of the importance of trying to teach a child how to think rationally rather than what to think.

gendercritter · 08/10/2018 22:18

Teenagers are incredibly easy to brainwash spanna. Even very clever ones sometimes. You're trying to say that just maybe this idea that twaw is logical and sensible after all.

It isn't. I find it fascinating what you can get people to believe (I grew up very religious and am now an atheist). Humans are very odd animals.

spannablue · 08/10/2018 21:58

In my experience, young people know and understand a lot more than people give them credit for here.

How come all your own kids are good enough at critical thinking to be 'gender critical', but everyone else's kids lack the faculties to hold a reasonable alternative opinion?

How come other young people who hold the view that trans women are women have been somehow duped or brainwashed, whereas you telling your own kids to be 'gender critical' is just you giving them information? What's the difference?

Tanith · 08/10/2018 15:56

They certainly don't all think like this, if my DS and his friends are anything to go by. They are science students, though, so they don't have time for this nonsense - in every sense of the word!

Floisme · 08/10/2018 15:01

My experience is mostly of male students, who, from what I have seen, don't believe a word of the ideology and openly take the piss. However they can't be arsed getting involved in student politics, thereby leaving the way open for the likes of Jess Bradley. And of course it doesn't really affect them too much so they can afford to take that attitude.

I don't know so much about female student though and can well imagine they're more likely to take the 'let's be nice' line.

Noqont · 08/10/2018 14:55

I don't think every student thinks this at all. Like the wider public, they have been afraid to speak out. The tide however is turning as people are being peak transexual into what this insanity really means.

Smile MistressFunbox.

I was going to say I would happily buy a copy of Extraordinary Popular Delusions And The Madness of Crowds for a random strange on the internet because it is that good, but it turns out there's a free version. Smile

doublethink · 08/10/2018 14:21

There were an awful lot of things that my friends and I believed when we were 18 and I utterly cringe at now.

MistressFunbox · 08/10/2018 14:18

Countess you now owe me 49p Grin

Thanks it looks good.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/10/2018 14:08

Bit of reading for you, Aunt Beastie.

Transgenderism will prevail and the price of tulip bulbs can only keep going up.

NotANotMan · 08/10/2018 13:59

Of course you won’t prevail, you’ve been fighting a losing battle for years and the trajectory will continue that way

Ah bless Grin

ScienceIsTruth · 08/10/2018 13:49

As an aside, does anyone know if the university of Lincoln had fallen for this crap? They've removed sex (changed it to gender) from their list of protected characteristics, so I'm assuming so.

AuntBeastie · 08/10/2018 13:45

Of course you won’t prevail, you’ve been fighting a losing battle for years and the trajectory will continue that way. Sorry - I know it’s an unwelcome thought. But it’s just the truth, and I think in your hearts you probably know that.

bigKiteFlying · 08/10/2018 10:20

They don't - but I constantly read even on here that they all do.

It's a myth that seems to be gaining traction and helping false comparisons to racism and homophobia usually correlated with older generations or old fashioned thinking.

I suggested he was best if thinking of it as like a religion, you can be polite to those that believe in it whilst refusing to partake

That's a really good way of talking about it.

I struggled to convey this to my older children confused by some school and youth based messages. They are like us apparently agnostics and atheists but have friends who are deeply religious – and not from the same religion so would make perfect sense – thank you.

Love that mimmymum has tweeted the op and conveniently ignored the rest of the thread!

Mimmymum can be as jubilant as she likes, the earth is still round.

ContessasGulagSpaDay · 08/10/2018 09:43

I'm trying hard to train my own young humans to not believe the nonsense. DS1 is 7yo and heard me huffing yesterday about men being allowed to say they're women so they can swim on the women's team. I asked him who would win the races and he said (slight paraphrase) "The men will win Mummy, because they're stronger. No, it doesn't matter if they say they're women because they are still stronger". Mouths of babes, mate.

I don't know enough young men/women to know what the state of play is with them; must find some and question them with scary enthusiasm Grin

Charliethefeminist · 08/10/2018 09:43

Too 😨 d to post the link tho

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/10/2018 09:32

There's an increasing problem with students staying in their rooms and not going to lectures.
I think that's how they find time.

Zeugma · 08/10/2018 09:09

I'm also greatly enjoying the comments on that Edinburgh article.

But, as so often happens, reading the woke interjections (especially from the unfortunately-male-monikered Morgan) I find myself thinking - who's got TIME for this shit??

Seriously, do these people spend their entire lives, their every waking moment, scouring Twatter and every obscure article about pronoun badges at Edinburgh freshers' week ffs, just so they can get involved in endless rantings? I fear they do.

It really doesn't say much about the kind of lives they actually lead. Don't they ever just get utterly exhausted by the sheer effort of being so damn woke? It's honestly like a form of OCD or something.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 08/10/2018 08:32

From the Tab article.

If you're reading this and think that you don’t know any trans or non-binary people in your classes, take a moment to think about your language and your behaviour. It’s far more likely that people simply don’t feel safe being out around you than them not existing.

It’s not about me.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/10/2018 08:28

Gives me hope for the future! Grin

TerfedOff · 08/10/2018 08:25

I love this one:

"No, people are not 'transphobic' for rejecting to stupid badges that put everyone into these scary boxes. It's called not being a herd of bloody cattle. This is Orweillian as hell, and people don't like that for good reason. Added to that, there is NO such thing as 'transphobia' to begin with. Just don't even get me started on the obvious for those of us sane people.... Sex is binary. There is ONLY male and female. They cannot 'become' each other. Two spirit people is a Native American belief, that has nothing whatsoever to do with trans, and natives people's are rightly offended by thestraight white western appropriation of that, you racist gits posing as 'progressive'. Get a clue already. No one likes your stupid cult, thinks you're idiots. Your bullying of everyone is what is real fascism. Everyone is waiting for this stupid trend to die off already and reality and sanity restored. It is also depressing as hell that a lesbian sides with this, when trans ideology is homophobic as hell, and especially towards lesbians, who they are trying to erase. So you have some serious internalised misogyny there as well. There is no such thing as 'cis' either. Everyone is the sex they are born with. Full stop. We are never accepting your oppressive nasty thinking. Get used to it."

What a brilliant rant Grin
