transpennine

Hehehehe...

HollowTalk · 07/10/2018 22:09

Oh you need to watch Broadchurch, @helmetbymidnight! (I don't know why, but your name reminds me so much of a Mary Stewart book, but I can't remember which. Is that the reference?)

ErrolTheDragon · 07/10/2018 22:07

Christopher Ecclestone and Jodie Whittaker are from opposite sides of the Pennines!

Ah, so she is trans - transpennine!

WingsofXXSteel · 07/10/2018 22:02

Aliens have gender?

Helmetbymidnight · 07/10/2018 22:00

I haven’t seen her in anything before. She’s great, hugely likeable, some funny lines, nice tone to the show. It’s nice family tv.

HollowTalk · 07/10/2018 21:58

I hadn't realised she was in Broadchurch. I watched the whole programme trying to figure out where I'd seen her.

iklboo · 07/10/2018 21:49

Oi! Christopher Ecclestone and Jodie Whittaker are from opposite sides of the Pennines! Grin

HollowTalk · 07/10/2018 21:48

No, not in the Paris Lees sense! But who does wear clothes like that, really, when they're saving the planet?!

NotTerfNorCis · 07/10/2018 21:44

For the Doctor to be trans he'd [?] have to have been born male and then 'transitioned'. But he's presumably beyond biological sex.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/10/2018 21:42

I dunno what she was wearing Grin but...it wasn’t very ‘feminine’ in the Paris lees sense.

HollowTalk · 07/10/2018 21:37

She wasn't wearing gender neutral clothing, was she?

CherieBabySpliffUp · 07/10/2018 20:56

Does that make Missy transgender too then? Hmm

Helmetbymidnight · 07/10/2018 20:56

Yeah and she hadn’t bought women’s clothes recently - then came out wearing...gender neutral clothes Grin

FlowerCupcake · 07/10/2018 20:55

DOCTOR: Yeah, I think she was a man back then. I'm fairly sure that I was, too. It was a long time ago, though.
BILL: So, the Time Lords, bit flexible on the whole man-woman thing, then, yeah?
DOCTOR: We're the most civilised civilisation in the universe. We're billions of years beyond your petty human obsession with gender and its associated stereotypes.
BILL: But you still call yourselves Time Lords?
DOCTOR: Yeah. Shut up.

Doctor Who episode 'World Enough Time'

VickyEadie · 07/10/2018 20:50

The doctor said she hadn't bought women's clothes for a long time - suggesting The Doctor had been female before...

BlardyBlar · 07/10/2018 20:48

I noticed she was going to bring FairPlay to Earth as well and I wondered to myself about the writer....

sproutsplease · 07/10/2018 20:45

I love Dr Who have done for decades. The Dr changed sex as time travelling, regenerating, time and space travelling aliens seem able to. The Dr could have been transgender but they have a female actress playing a female character who states they have changed every cell in their body, so on this occasion they haven't gone with that. They may do in the future.

FermatsTheorem · 07/10/2018 20:42

I thought it was ace (and nicely back towards the Christopher Ecclestone Dr Who, who has always been my favourite of the modern doctors - not just accent but personality). I thought it was very cleverly written. New and still the doctor! (And ever cell in her new body is female...)

Helmetbymidnight · 07/10/2018 20:38

I thought it was a gender critical dr who!

She said she can’t run so fast because all this - gestures body. She said she was here to bring ‘fair play to earth’

Great telly.

JayneW63 · 07/10/2018 20:30

Had a stand up row with a whovian ( is that a thing) on why the Doctor could be a woman, he said he couldn't and started frothing.

I think the only people going to be interested, other than if it's a good story, will be men.

HollowTalk · 07/10/2018 20:23

Dr Who tonight said, "Every cell in my body is female." So not a transwoman, then.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 07/10/2018 20:21

Dammit, she. Fucking misgendering an alien.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 07/10/2018 20:21

Isn’t he 2000+ now?

Theweasleytwins · 07/10/2018 20:06

Its holding a non-human to human standards (kind of-i know what i mean😅)

Like comparing Dr Who to that fish that can change sex/gender if there arent enough males

TheSteakBakeOfAwesome · 07/10/2018 20:04

I'm just fucking rejoicing in dyspraxia getting a decent mention on telly right now.
