Definitely Spartacus. The validation of males as women is not cost free, even when those males are our allies.

NotAGirl · 15/07/2020 20:19

@Barracker

Oh, that letter, it's so honest and sad.

A woman who clearly loves her brother very much, self-censoring and ultimately hurting herself to try to spare his feelings. Whilst also worrying that her efforts to spare him the immediate short-term pain is to enable a much greater long-term one.

I can hear her unspoken guilt at allowing her little daughter to be part of a charade, knowing that to reveal the truth to a child is to expose the lie that the adults are propping up.

All this damage. To all the lives that surround one person.

I was trying to articulate how I felt about the letter and you've done that for me. I think Fionne is lovely and caring and doesn't want to hurt women by their actions but it's happening anyway

I felt angry on Cathy's behalf when she said she's trying to do better, she shouldn't be worrying about trying to 'do better', Cathy isn't the one that's asking others to go against what they know to be true.

Oh, that letter, it's so honest and sad.

It is. Wow. Made me well up.

Clymene · 15/07/2020 17:31

Wow, that letter.

wellbehavedwomen · 15/07/2020 16:05

Thanks for the letter. Will read that later. Agree such perspectives are too rarely shared/read.

wellbehavedwomen · 15/07/2020 16:04

I've noticed a lot of trans people in the comments supporting Rowling. I hate what I've ever seen of Twitter, usually, so I may just be biased about it as a platform by the reality that what gets linked is inflammatory... because that came as a surprise. Very clear on sex and gender being different, and the need to express roles assigned to women as different to biological sex. Very clear that women need single sex spaces. Equally clear that TRAs don't speak for them.

Intersex people also very angry on being co-opted by the trans lobby, too. Funny how that minority's views on their own lives and experiences are ignored, and they are dehumanised to serve a wholly different, and unrelated, agenda.

Fionne sounds properly lovely. Questioning, kind, and brave. I hope that the discussion goes well, is constructive, and doesn't cause distress.

I also really liked Fionne‘s sister’s letter from a while back .. not a perspective you get to hear from very often.

Well yes, one of the reasons you don't get to hear that perspective very often is that if the male concerned is in a feminist space, or if women are centring that male in the debate, the females connected to that male are by default excluded from that space.

I'd love to hear more from sisters of transitioners, (and Aunties, and Mums and Grandmas and daughters) but we won't hear it while we're centring their brothers.

If you wish you heard more from that perspective, centre women in feminist spaces.

This is the letter you are referring to, I think:

BatShite · 15/07/2020 12:06

I think she has a healthy attitude to herself obtained by many years of battling dysphoria and I'm delighted that she can embrace both her male biology and her feminine feelings.

This seems common among those who are 'actually' trans (meaning those with dysphoria, rather than just shouty entitled males). I know a fair few transsexual people (not all post op of course, thats really rare) and most disagree 100% with the TRA narrative and think its bonkers to deny sex is a real thing.

This is exactly why transactivists try to scare transsexual people away from commenting.

As a side note, I genuinely have a crush on Fionne. Not that that makes a difference to anything really..just a random comment.

What a sweetie. I adored glam rock and new romantics - our boys had lace, eyeliner and leopard print if they fancied it. Now the gender walls are closing in on later generations. What HAPPENED.

@2BthatUnnoticed

With apologies for bumping an old thread, I just wanted to say to Fionne’s sister or any friends (if you are still here), please pass on my friendly wishes and support to Fionne (not being on Twitter).

I also really liked Fionne‘s sister’s letter from a while back .. not a perspective you get to hear from very often.

@2BthatUnnoticed you mentioned Fionne's sisters letter, I'd not seen that and it would be an interesting perspective, do you have a link to it?

As and aside I hope Fionne's is doing well, wish they didn't feel the need for surgery

I don't like the thought of a two against one aspect either, I wonder if Miranda could join Fionne?

Or whether that would mean the chat was off?

BettyDuMonde · 06/01/2019 10:59

That same quote stuck with me too, Lang

Fionne is a star. I enjoyed the web chat between Fionne and Miranda - not sure I can stomach Prior and Harrop though! One more GC voice to make it even would be more palatable but I applaud Fionne’s bravery for not making that a condition.

LangCleg · 06/01/2019 10:35

Fionne, if you're reading: ages ago, on Twitter, you said this:

If we don't address male pattern abuse it transitions with us.

twitter.com/FionneOrlander/status/1023604707586134026

It's stuck with me all this time because it's true. Let others fly their red flags and you keep pointing them out.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 06/01/2019 10:22

💐💐
Two against one is unfair but we all fully support Fiona.

hellandhairnets · 06/01/2019 10:13

I hope Fionne will be OK. - this challenge to them is indeed brave, although bloody bravo Fionne for taking them on.Flowers As I recall from the youtube discussion with Miranda, Fionne is quite shy. I'm not so sure about the two-against-one aspect.

teawamutu · 06/01/2019 09:46

Fionne's common sense and courtesy should shine out, if the two frothing ideologues allow F to get a word in edgeways.

Will be interesting to see if Dr Haddock tries to bully and mansplain to a TW.

Have the words 'fun' and 'wit' been appropriated to mean 'dire' and 'bollocks?

Seems the "lady" was for turning eh Joss?
And haddock as your wing person. Fab!
