Holy crap I've approached friends about GRA and now I'm crapping myself a bit!

So I’ve been following the trans discussions both here and in the press for a while now and I’m scared of how women are losing their voice and could be losing rights very soon. What is odd is that in RL no one I know has mentioned it. Ever. Not once.

So after watching so many brave women really putting their heads above the parapet tonight I’ve bit the bullet and sent a text to my close friends giving them the link to the GRA consultation and some reasons why I think it’s of interest to them to at least look at. This topic is something none of them have mentioned even knowing of.

Although I feel proud of myself for doing it I’m slightly shitting myself about the “friendship “ fallout and worried they think I’m bigot! Is this the adrenaline talking??!! Please talk me down

Fuck I'm telling everyone!
They either go-"well yeah obvs that's insane, but it wont happen."
or they go Shock and say "why isn't the news covering this??"
It will be fine OP. Either they will have you burned as a witch or they will fill in the consultation...

I’ve done exactly the same this week! Over text and just casually in conversation (as you do!) One friend seemed relieved that I had mentioned it and began to unload all of her frustrations about it too. Most of the others have either not responded or responded with confusion- I really don’t think it’s on many ppl’s radar yet?

Thank you all for replying. I'm starting to picture lots of pockets of what we've all done happening everywhere. Small waves can be a big one.

silent rattled describes the feeling exactly. I'm sorry you've had an upsetting experience Thanks.

Spoke to a couple of friends (separately) about this yesterday and though they started off saying they thought men could be women and vice versa, it didn’t take long for them to see that there would be circumstances where it would be necessary to apply boundaries. Trans women in women’s prisons and the complete obfuscation of records and statistics of crimes seemed to be the tipping point for both.

Littlemouseroar · 03/10/2018 21:00

Well done! Its a scary step to take, but most people dont actually know we can take part in the consultation. If the only people who do the consultation are TRAs we’re in a expletive hard situation.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 03/10/2018 20:58

I know what you mean. I've thought about speaking to a couple of the school run mums I know quite well but bottled it each time. So you can feel proud that you actually did it.

Nobody in my personal life has fallen out with me over this, they laugh at the politicians or get cross, nobody believes men can become women.

It's another Brexit isn't it.

silentcrow · 03/10/2018 20:56

I was forced "out" today, for upsetting reasons I can't go into, but I've had to talk to both a colleague and my parents. None of them had any idea. My mum just about flipped out when I mentioned refuges and went home with a FPFW leaflet; I'm hoping she'll do the consultation. Everyone has their tipping point, I guess.

I feel rattled, but in a way I'm glad...the ninja life was really starting to get to me.

Thanks both, that's good to here (and great news on getting others to complete!). I'm hoping if nothing else it makes them aware. School run tomorrow could be interesting...!

It is scary. I sent an email about it to a friend who is in guiding, it didn't go too well..... (Sorry that is probably not what you want to hear! There have been times it has gone well too)

Antonia87 · 03/10/2018 20:39

I have just done the same! I'm having a large glass of wine! I have actually had three really positive responses and they are going to fill out the consultation. Yay!

Melanin I know your right! Smile
