Welcome to the sisterhood.

"I am thankful for activists both pro and anti women’s rights.
You have focussed my mind with your love and your hate.
I am officially radicalised.

I don’t have much sympathy for her. She’s thrown us all under the bus with her ‘I’m just a silly woman who didn’t really understand what the nasty bigots were making me sign and OF COURSE TWAW’ bullshit.

dolorsit · 05/10/2018 08:01

I'm not going to criticise AM.

She has been braver than me.

There are people who have concerns about self-id who believe that transsexual women are women. We can disagree but we should be allowed to disagree.

I imagine there are probably people who are pro self-id who think that debate should happen.

I'd be really surprised if everyone who signed the letter had the same opinion.

Estellesylvia · 05/10/2018 07:52

Someone has made a list of all the grovelling apologies people have made to the TRAs, including hers. Quite nauseating

Felt pressured but came back to Twitter saying she was ‘radicalised’. It’s all well and good for her to backtrack, but she’s selling out her sisters in the process and that’s not ok. Really disappointed in how weak so many are. Imagine if the suffragettes gave up because people said mean things or, heaven forbid, it affected their career ( which it did ).

Years from now I’ll remember who threw us under the bus. Us women who suffer PTSD from male assaults and won’t have freedoms if every man and his dick can come into our spaces. Sorry but I’m tired of being understanding when nobody is trying to understand us.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 05/10/2018 07:36

I doubt she was pressured to do the petition, I mean I don’t know how that’s possible unless someone is in front of her in real life.

It’s more likely that she got caught up had an opinion, realised a lot of people are “sad” about her having any opinion on the issue and backtracked.

For TRA unless you follow their ideology 100% they see you as an enemy and that’s why they have lost so many allies in recent years.

Humans should be grey in their thinking and not black and white.

ElanoraHeights · 05/10/2018 07:26

@Mumfun - reading that link now. Very interesting and useful for completing the GRA consultation, thank you.

I noted this “There is mounting evidence of males trying to transition for unscrupulous reasons.”

I had a thread removed on Mumsnet yesterday for two reasons - one of which was for saying a sentence along the lines of the above and I’d better not say the second again in case this post is removed.

I don’t see why I can’t say that on here when it’s well known!

ElanoraHeights · 05/10/2018 07:21

Oops - I’m way behind on this thread. Sorry!

ElanoraHeights · 05/10/2018 07:19

She has since posted a statement saying that she felt pressured into putting her name to the Stonewall letter and that she disagrees with much of it. Confusing!

woman11017 · 05/10/2018 05:45

With the way things are going in britain, this precedent will be rolled out for other types of 'wrongthink'. See previous regimes for shutting down dissent in universities and amongst artists.

Magdalen Berns posted a film of an american communist discussing funding and purpose of it on the left in america.
It applies here.

Being used successfully by both sides of extremist political spectrum.

Shares many characteristics of fundamentalist regimes.

'Wrong think'.

RubyViolet · 05/10/2018 00:33

I hope she’s ok, but yes this is not just about toilets. The people who want to silence us want to bring the discussion back down to toilets. It suits them to centre the debate around that, then they can avoid the safeguarding and the erasure of women as a class.

seafret · 05/10/2018 00:12

Bloody hell :(

Budgieinaberet · 04/10/2018 23:42

It's got fuck all to do with toilets.

It's about safeguarding children.

Full stop

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 04/10/2018 23:33

Its a shame. It really isn't about toilets though.

gendercritter · 04/10/2018 22:14

I am gutted to read this. She must have got so much stick.

hellandhairnets · 04/10/2018 22:12

So sick of this manipulative shit. A number of tweets on her timeline saying with big sad eyes stuff like "I used to like you but was just so surprised and disappointed with your recent tweets..."

She's allowed to have an opinion as a woman that doesn't centre fucking transpeople. Making her apologise, essentially.

I have so had enough of these pretend-progressive idiots with zero empathy for anyone but their own very limited worldview. Fuck them. When - I hope - the tide turns, we won't forget.

Alison, I'll miss you, and I'm just so sorry you feel you've had to capitualate and duck out Flowers Flowers

Melamin · 04/10/2018 22:10

This demonstrates the point Johnny made today on R4.

It certainly does. And in plain sight.

I hope she is OK.

OlennasWimple · 04/10/2018 22:07

Well that'll learn me to RTFT... (I do still love Alf tho)

Mingmoo · 04/10/2018 22:07

Absolutely devastated for her. She is such a lovely person. I sometimes find the rhetoric here a bit farfetched and I think it can be deeply insulting but I've come to realise it doesn't matter how gently we raise our objections or try to explain that there are ramifications to trans ideology that need to be discussed. The very idea of questioning it is forbidden. There's no ideology so perfect that it can't benefit from being tested and questioned. These people are not acting in good faith and it grieves me to see the willing fools of young women who think they will get some kind of reward by throwing away their rights and hard-won opportunities.

DayMay · 04/10/2018 22:06

Wine Alison.

This demonstrates the point Johnny made today on R4.

OlennasWimple · 04/10/2018 22:05

Always loved her. Love her even more now

raisinsraisins · 04/10/2018 22:04

Her manager might have told her that she’ll lose fans if she carries on putting her viewpoints on Twitter.

Or, totally different issue, but similar to pop stars having to apologise for having a tour date in Israel, saying they made a mistake, will cancel and not do it again. Seems like everything now has to go with the popular opinion on Twitter, without really having knowledge or investigating facts.

doctorbarbie · 04/10/2018 22:02

First she had to apologise and now she has to leave. Sounds exactly like something the Dr would want/threaten. I'm not suggesting he was involved but his tactics have certainly been disseminated.

Or maybe she thought fuck it. She apologised to appease the TRAs and then our lot got angry.

Either way, she sounds like she's been kidnapped and is communicating from an underground bunker.

IdahoCrow · 04/10/2018 21:57

Twitter is a toxic soup for women. One day historians will study this sort of TRA aggressive shit as a turning point though, as a chapter in the story of how the UK destroyed itself from within.

Bowlofbabelfish · 04/10/2018 21:55

Oh I just read the statement...

Was she threatened I wonder?
