What peak transed you

I know this has probably been done to death, not sure if there is another thread somewhere, but briefly, what was it that peak transed you? I don't mean long philosophical essays, but was there something or a specific incident which suddenly made that lightbulb switch on?

I saw a photo on FB with the tagline "boys have periods too". The person in the photo looked like a boy but with legs open and period blood on display and a look on their face that dared me to disagree. I tried to argue with my own thoughts but ultimately, I could not agree that the person in the photo was male. I could not lie to myself in that way. I eventually found Magdalena Berns and once I talked myself out of the horror that "she can't say that" I realised that we are fully and totally being forced to lie. I can no longer lie to myself and force my children to lie about this stuff.

I'm so sorry, Undercover. I hope it's brings comfort to know there are other women here who see what you see. You're not alone. Far from it. Thanks

So many women have tried to be nice, be good allies, stuff down their own needs and opinions and when they finally can't do it any more they get abused and threatened. Says volumes about the way TRA's take full advantage of male privilege to advance their ideology.

IdahoJones · 01/10/2018 00:13

The behaviour of TRAs.

hellandhairnets · 01/10/2018 00:05

Bless you, Undercover. Brew Cake

We will get there. You know the evidence of your own eyes and ears, you will be shown to be right in the end, and you will be able to speak about it eventually, if we get our way. They won't be able to police us all and the rest of the world for ever. The facade is already cracking.

Please take care of yourself. Big hug. You know you'll always have integrity that none of them do and that is priceless.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/09/2018 23:47

(Hugs Undercover)

I too have seen the way TRAs talk when they don't think anyone who disagrees is watching, and it's terrifying.

Years and years and years of Jess Bradley et al. Trying sooooo hard to be a 'good ally'. They said that it was impossible for me not to have an internal sense of being a woman, and that saying I don't is transphobic. My internal understanding of my own mind is wrong, so I must work to change it in accordance with the holy writ of JB. Years of being told 'it never happens' for things which I had seen myself with my own eyes. Trying to edit my own perceptions and memories, because I had to support trans people who were the most oppressed of all.
For a while then Jess was campaigning a lot about 'parental alienation' within a student context. Good, this is an important issue, and one I can relate to having parents in an abusive relationship. But no. Parental alienation is something special and much worse when experienced by trans people. Definitely worse for trans people than parents who disown you for being gay, or parents who are physically and emotionally abusive when you have to go home because student accommodation closes over the holidays and it's too cold to camp over Christmas. Worst of all for Jess Bradley the eternal victim who must be the focus of attention in all things.
That was a very early example. I squashed all my misgivings down for more than a decade, because clearly I must centre trans people and especially JB over my own transphobic feelings, and if I committed wrongthink I should 'die terf scum'. I was raised to tiptoe around explosively unpredictable male violence, so all this set off fewer alarm bells than it should have done.
Then I found out about the flashing from JB's ex-wife, the only person in my social circle brave enough to even mention it. They have nothing to do with each other any more, and haven't for years, because predictably enough JB is emotionally abusive to women they are in relationships with.
That led me to Mumsnet because it was one of very few places with any information. Turned out that Mumsnet was not in fact full of people shouting 'die trans scum', this being something that TRAs were more likely to shout at anyone who isn't them, including other trans people (#truscum).
I'm still terrified of talking openly about this, because I know how vicious TRAs can be, I've heard how they talk when nobody's watching. There is one person outside you lot who I can talk to about any of this. I'd love to go to a real world meeting, but I would definitely be recognised by the TRAs.
Someone I know posted the latest video from A Woman's Place on Facebook, to complain about how it is horrible to trans people. I watched it and in my flat with nobody but the cat to see me, I cried because I could identify with it so much.

AngelsAckiz · 30/09/2018 23:22

Oh and Dr Adrian Harrop saying that women have appropriated the word "woman" from transwomen, on national tv.

hipsterfun · 30/09/2018 23:20

I didn’t find female puberty, in and of itself, shit. But middle-aged men calling themselves girls and claiming it still pisses me off massively.

AngelsAckiz · 30/09/2018 23:19

Being told it was women and cis women
That women have penises and that I can expect to see them in changing rooms and toilets
That male bodied people with male skeletons, male muscle and fat distribution, and lung capacity, hands and feet size were competing in womens sports.
That the word "woman" doesn't appear in literature about women, womens bodies and even on clothing retail websites, but the word men is still used everywhere.
That women are told not to debate, ask questions or assert boundaries at all, and doing so is a crime the same as literal violence.
That I was banned from Facebook for a week for saying I didn't think male rapists should be housed in the female estate.
Riley J Dennis saying that my sexual preferences are transphobic.
That the red tent banned me from attending their events because I said that I would feel triggered by male people being there, as a rape survivor I need male free spaces to heal.
When women say that no man would put on a dress in order to access vulnerable women in order to rape them.

That's just the few that come to mind.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/09/2018 23:06

Whenever I read "second puberty" I'm just going, shit, isn't one bad enough?

Budgieinaberet · 30/09/2018 23:05

Funny that some of these middle aged men want to appropriate stuff - but not my menopause, just their imaginary version of my puberty.

And puberty for girls is fucking shit

ContentiousOne · 30/09/2018 22:45

Chest feeding really pisses me off. Mothers are erased everywhere, and now genderism wants to take the words we use to name our mothering experiences? Fuck off. I really hate the mangling of language. It bother me a lot.

ContentiousOne · 30/09/2018 22:44

'Chestfeeding', the denial of the material reality of sex (ie being told to believe that my transmasc daughter had always been male, even just after she was born and I saw she had a vulva and knew she was female!), and the inability of trans advocates to answer any questions at an appropriate level of complexity.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/09/2018 22:36

Mine was for saying that not being able to laugh at people saying absurd things is positively un-British.

Enter the humor free zone, where if you don't believe gender is serious business you're a wicked witch (that's my Halloween costume sorted then).

RepealtheGRA · 30/09/2018 22:33

My comments get deleted for my thoughts on what constitutes child abuse, misogyny and homophobia.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/09/2018 22:30

Getting comments deleted for making jokes has been a pretty effective method of peak transing women too...

(If you see me disappear, that's why.)

hipsterfun · 30/09/2018 22:26

without FWR I would have been at a loss of how to process it emotionally or politically. Now I see it for what it is.

This. All day long.

ChattyLion · 30/09/2018 21:53

The saying TWAW. No, TWAW are TWAW. That’s fine and that’s enough. WAW!

Sharing our unadapted, non-floor-to-ceiling, gappy-cubicle-doored ordinary old Women’s toilets and shower provision at my workplace, with male bodied colleagues who identify as women.

The way I felt/still feel unable to challenge HR about this even though I know from this FWR board they are breaking the law. The way we weren’t told or consulted about this happening. Discovering that nobody can legally ask for a GRC so self ID is already here. Being outraged.

The way I feel scared for my job if I were to say anything about it. So I say nothing.

The way the senior blokes in the workplace look so smug and woke carefully always saying ‘she’ and ‘her’ about those Male-bodied colleagues. Loving how woke they all are, when this wokeness affects their lives not even one tiny bit.

When it denies me and my female colleagues dignity, privacy and ( for me anyway) a feeling of safety in the women’s toilets. I suspect AGP.

Realising that the women in this workplace have zero power. It’s humiliating and embittering and without FWR I would have been at a loss of how to process it emotionally or politically. Now I see it for what it is.

Iliketeaagain · 30/09/2018 21:50

I tend to lurk on the feminism boards as I don't know what to say / don't feel clever enough.

But, I've always been a feminist and with 2 dd's, it makes me furious that they may lose rights as a result of trans activism.

I think there are a few things that make me "peak"

1 - as an HCP, the very idea that biology is immaterial. Even if you self ID as a different gender from the sex you were born with, the biology can not be ignored - as a man, you still are at risk of male cancers; as a woman, still at risk of female cancers etc whether you like it or not. Also, while the NHS is all about "recognising the gender someone identifies as", male and females still need different care e.g if you need a catheter, I need to know your biology in order to give you safe care. Also, putting trans women with a fully functioning penis in a ward with vulnerable women (because in hospital, you are vulnerable whether you feel it or not) is utter madness.

  1. The issue in Canada where the trans woman is suing a beautician because she refused to wax his balls - clearly completely ignorant of the fact that it's different training / safety - just because you believe that you should be treated as a woman getting a bikini wax does not mean that someone can do it safely.
  1. The sports issue - seeing those girls lose to boys who had recently self IDd as female, plus the entire unfairness of the mountain biker in NZ who had competed in the male race, and then the female race a few weeks later. Again, biology doesn't change.
  1. The man who cross dresses a couple of times a week at work and won a "women in business" top 100 space - all the women in business who are kicking ass and whoever wrote the list really couldn't think of someone else?!

I'm all for live and let live - and I think also what stands out for me is that the trans activists who are making a lot of noise are men who have self IDd and had no effort to transition / no plans to have gender reassignment surgery / wish to still have a fully functioning penis. I don't see the trans women who are living as women peacefully and respectfully, shouting from the roof tops about their rights, only men demanding that they should be able to access female only spaces and demand that lesbians are transphobic for not being interested because they have a penis!

daughterofanarchy · 30/09/2018 21:34

The Caitlin Jenner thing peaktransed me.
Yesterday I managed to peak trans my brother in law with the girl guides and Ocado/primesight shenanigans.

Budgieinaberet · 30/09/2018 21:31

I am wearing leggings and a t-shirt.
The joys of being menopausal means I don't have to worry about putting a jumper on, let alone the heating Grin

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 30/09/2018 21:28

Thanks for that link NauticalDisaster.

Says the transwoman to women, “. But, as it is, “I am going to have to say, It’s your place to stay out of spaces where transgender male-to-female people go. It’s not our job to avoid you.”

AngryAttackKittens · 30/09/2018 21:28

I'm wearing leggings and sheepskin lined boots right now, but also wearing a bra. Bi-gender? Agender?

Or, you know, just "average woman on her day off".
