What peak transed you

I know this has probably been done to death, not sure if there is another thread somewhere, but briefly, what was it that peak transed you? I don't mean long philosophical essays, but was there something or a specific incident which suddenly made that lightbulb switch on?

OP posts:

Yeah - 'men can have periods too', and even more outrageous "transwomen have periods, just without the blood" Hmm

How to fake menstrual blood, complete fetishisation of women's biology (one aspect of autogynephilia).
WomaninBoots · 29/09/2018 21:02

Someone started a thread on Horse and Hound forum of all places... "Can men get periods?" And it brought to my attention the idea that talking about periods was thought to be "transphobic" ... it was a jet propelled ride to the Peak for me from there really. Once I started to think about it. And then read. And then I met the idea of the cotton ceiling and there really is no going back from there.

Booking marking ToeToToe thats a great list to help me when I chat to people about this.

Caitlin Jenner, specifically their coy reticence about whether they’d had “the op” and the dawning realisation that “transwomen” weren’t what I thought they were. Swiftly followed by Hampstead Ponds.

scotsheather · 29/09/2018 20:52

I have to add I'm not against transgender people in general (though I don't believe they can actually change sex) as I do know the struggles they have had through their lives and it is them who are being overshadowed by this more militant ideology described here and elsewhere on MN. Thats what our own critics don't understand.

ToeToToe · 29/09/2018 20:45

The cotton ceiling.

The trashing of a women's event at the Vancouver Women's Library by aggressive males, claiming to be trans sex workers.

The shutting down of MichFest Michigan Womyn's Music Festival

Tammika Brent being hospitalised by (transgender) Fallon Fox, with concussion and a broken orbital bone.

Brents says transgender fighters in MMA just isn't fair.

Caitlyn Jenner winning Woman of the Year (6 mths after transitioning).

Daniel Muscato saying "Anyone who says I'm not a woman can suck my lady dick". On International Women's Day.

Alex Drummond's beard "widening the band length of womanhood" and Stonewall (see also Lord Michael Cashman).

No-platforming of Julie Bindel and Germaine Greer.

Lily Madigan, Heather Peto, Sophie Cook accessing women's roles, AWS, and places on the Jo Cox Leadership program.

The assault on Maria MacLachlan at Speaker's Corner.

The trans weightlifter, the picture of the basket ball team with a transwoman 2ft taller than the girls, the Iranian football team containing about 8 transwomen, Hannah Mouncey playing Australian football on women's teams.

Attacks & no-platforming of Derrick Jensen for criticising Queer Theory

The attacks, rape threats and abuse of women on social media, by trans-activists.

The losing women their jobs, being expelled from political parties for speaking out on behalf of women, and refusing to say TWAW. (Dr Harrop).

Ponting, White, Challenor et al.

Women MPs happily agreeing that 50% men and 50% women MPs would be just fine.

#Transgirls and #GirlsLikeUs hashtags on Twitter.

I'm sure I've missed lots out.

scotsheather · 29/09/2018 20:41

Trans prisoners. Not the Tara Hudson kind necessarily, but the spate more recently who are clearly a danger to women.

silentcrow · 29/09/2018 20:41

Lots of little things were making me uneasy, (and in retrospect I think a friend might have gently led me with what she posted!) but two really stood out. I went to a lit fest with my 12yo daughter, and there was a panel about feminism in YA. I was really keen for her to hear it, it was packed with bright young female authors clearly saying NO to men, to male violence, to rape and porn and objectification. And this scratty bloke (who I now guess would be enby or whatever) stood up and harangued them about Caitlin Morgan's views on trans. The whole panel recited TRANS WOMEN ARE WOMEN like the fucking borg, one after the other. It was eerie. Amidst the gnashing of teeth about how "disappointing" older feminists, I turned to my daughter and said "bollocks". No conscious thought, it was just such an obvious lie! She gave me the "mum you are so cringe" look and said "duh".

Not long after, the "cervix havers" thing came up, and I pointed out on someone's thread that it was a difficult phrase if you didn't have English as your first language, or had learning difficulties. Because, you know, education is kinda my job, so some experience here. And this greasy bloke ripped me and some other women I know to shreds - stopped short of calling me a transphobe, but you've seen it - all about the feels and the poor transwomen violence blah blah. As it happens, I've known this guy online for years, I know he's a trolling wanker of the highest degree, so it just made me angry. I messaged one of the other women to tell her not to take it to heart, and she said the magic words "rad fem".

So here I am. Thanks, greasy dudes, I've read all those feminist books I've been meaning to for years, inoculated my daughters against bollocks and discovered Mumsnet Grin

I remember reading about fallon fox beating the crap out of their opponent then started reading more. But it was discovering that transwomen kept their fully functioning penis that was the the biggest shock. Then the Spartacus thread and everything else is history

McWilde · 29/09/2018 20:35

My peak or realisation was at work.
I worked in an role which was predominately staffed by middle aged women, myself included. Lots of old school common sense feminists, for women by women, that sort of thing.
We started to get the new wave of staff in to train up, again all women but younger.
Like other people I'd felt great sympathy for trans people and knew a few and the struggle they faced.

But I never thought that anyone would think they literally changed into the opposite sex.
Anyway, I ended up in an 'airing of views' with the younger members of staff, saying things like obviously men can't go into refuges and go into prisons that's ridiculous. I didn't know anything about Terfs or 'transphobia' at the time, so I kept pushing the point as I thought maybe they aren't understanding what I'm saying. I even called up one of their tutors and bitterly complained that their understanding of safeguarding was severely lacking.
Then of course I read up on it, came across Twitter, and realised we weren't in Kansas anymore.

deepwatersolo · 29/09/2018 20:34

I should add that while the blatant censoring of science Peak transed me, it was Miranda Yardley who then radicalized me, haha.

peaktrans · 29/09/2018 20:34

I definitely felt sympathy for so long for anyone "trapped in the wrong body". But it seemed rare & I didn't think it could hurt anyone.

However in the last few weeks with the political climate & MN I've realised the population involved & also how many people are taking advantage. The thought of men in refuges/prisons etc frightens me so much.

The Jenner situation seemed bizarre, I really thought it was for TV as I couldn't understand how someone could only talk about clothes/jewellery when they were making a life changing decision. Not only for Jenner but also the children. I now feel that's not so rare

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 29/09/2018 20:34

the girl guide fiasco

I think this has got a few men to take notice and 'click'.

burblife · 29/09/2018 20:32

LM spouting nonsense and reading about teenagers being given blockers.

I think DH peaked this week when we discussed a man being in the top 100 women in business and the girl guide fiasco.

catkind · 29/09/2018 20:29

Reading all those trans stories that start "I always knew I was different because I hated football and loved dressing up as a princess".

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 29/09/2018 20:28

An online run in with my local Liberal Democrat party Facebook page. I have them to thank for calling me transphobic and making me look into all this. Then I came here. Now I’m on a mission.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 29/09/2018 20:25

And the lack of any criticism was fooling others into thinking everyone was 100% supportive.
Power of the internet, a relativly small group can shut down a lot of discussion across a lot of sites and look like everyone fully supports.

McFugget · 29/09/2018 20:23

Enjoy my ladydick in your mouth cuntwipe* even.

bluetitsaretits · 29/09/2018 20:22

Was always pro LGBT rights but never believed that TWAW. It was Nixon v Vancouver rape relief that brought this whole shit show to my attention. Since then it's been a tsunami of insanity -it's like no other issue I have ever seen.

Jamieandwordswo · 29/09/2018 20:21

Sorry, toilet, not changing room.

McFugget · 29/09/2018 20:21

Those hateful posts on SM, "Enjoy my ladydick in your mouth" for example.

Hints 'n' tips on breaking through the "cotton ceiling". Gross.

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 29/09/2018 20:21

It started after Madigan's election and by the time the LP made their non-statement about AWS I was reading everything on here and via GC feminists on twitter I could get my hands on. Shamefully recently really - I see how people can sleepwalk into a world where the law's changed and they've no idea.

HairyPotter · 29/09/2018 20:20

The fact that you aren't allowed to discuss it. You're either fully and absolutely on board no questions asked or you're a massive bigot. The fact that you aren't allowed to have a different, middle ground view scared me and made me research it more

This ^^
