Ocado boycott after support of Primesight actionhttp://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3376466-ocado-boycott-after-support-of-primesight-action

Following on from my previous thread that became full Smile

I'll be making my first Waitrose order today, or maybe going back to Tesco. Will definitely give Waitrose a go though and have placed a Christmas order already.

Here is a bunch of information on Ocado shareholders too:

I have to say when I called to cancel the person was totally awesome and said it was bloody ridiculous what was going on.

Last week I asked for my lifetime spend but as the previous awesome person had done such a good job of immediately closing my account down there was no trace of me left on the system!

I'm delighted at how much money I've saved, and I've had a wonderful time buying everything in person from our local farm shop instead.

Ratitatita · 04/10/2018 15:29

ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/individual-rights/right-to-erasure/ - it seems that they have one month to process a request for erasure.

enrichedatthegulags · 04/10/2018 15:21

If anyone has asked for their data deleted but is still receiving communications from them, what do you need to do to get them a telling off? What's the timeframe they have to delete also?
(had all the training at work but I'm on mat leave and lack of sleep has turned my brain to mashed potato)

Ratitatita · 04/10/2018 15:10

The Ocado share price has taken a hit today (-8%). Not sure if there are external factors at play but that is likely to focus their minds.

MotherofPearl · 04/10/2018 15:06

I'm quite surprised by how fast they have deleted my account! I emailed them this morning and it's all deleted - though they didn't reply to my email asking to cancel, and haven't made any attempt to entice me to stay.

It's almost as if they don't want my custom. Hmm

pinchpoint · 04/10/2018 13:14

I've put it all in an email, had the standard reply (apologising if I was "confused" Angry), came back to them reiterating that due to their CEO attending the President's Club dinner, then his company actively supporting the erasure of women's rights, I would be taking my custom elsewhere and closing my account. You can't alienate and insult your core market and expect them to keep on spending. Hefty lifetime spend.

They don't seem to get it. At all. I wish they'd get Fair Play for Women in to enlighten them.

MnerXX · 04/10/2018 13:09

Ocado are being unbelievably short sighted. I bet the others supermarkets etc cannot believe their luck and great that people are switching to the high street as well. We were already getting our meat from the farm down the road and an independent fish van comes with our fish. I love the knowledge and expertise that you get from the local suppliers.

MotherofPearl · 04/10/2018 11:47

After prevaricating for a week I have now closed my account. Their email 'apology' pushed me over the edge.

First Waitrose shop arriving tomorrow, and I'm delighted to have got £20 off, and thanks to the PP in here who mentioned Quidco - signed up to get cashback through them too. I am one very happy Adult Human Female!

This was posted on another thread:

Target (a chain store in the US) lost $15 billion after they let anybody use the women's bathroom and then allocated $20 million for floor to ceiling cubicles trying to lure customers back. Doesn't matter, many women still won't shop there and two years later Target still hasn't recovered their former profit margins.

I thought it was worth repeating here in case Ocado/Waitrose/etc are reading.

I note also that Sir Stuart Rose is Chairman of Ocado, after a long and sucessful career at M&S. Surely he picked some understanding of women, and the fact they don't like to be patronised, along the way.

thefatladyscreams · 04/10/2018 10:43

Finally had my chat with “Millie” yesterday. Ocado account now closed and my first order with Waitrose is arriving tomorrow.

I spoke to Waitrose who said they very busy with people switching over from Ocado and were well aware why 😀

Ocado won’t change their stance but hopefully this will make other organisations think in the future.

HobNobcentral · 03/10/2018 20:04

Another lurker who’s cancelled their account.

DayMay · 03/10/2018 20:00

Ocado couldn’t give a shit and I couldn’t give a shit about them. Just move on, accept we’re never shopping there again and book yourself a nice spa day at Bannatyne Spas safe in knowledge you won’t encounter any lady peens there grin

Bannatyne believes in Adult Human Females.

GladAllOver · 03/10/2018 19:55

If they haven't deleted your details when requested that's an offence under GDPR.

QueenYnci · 03/10/2018 19:52

After several tries I finally got Ocado to understand I don't care how sorry they are that I was offended (so not actually sorry then).

Requested they cancel my smartpass, close my account and remove all my details from their system. Email confirming this was all done.

Today got a promotional 'New for October' email. Still have my details then...

RepealtheGRA · 03/10/2018 18:50

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 03/10/2018 18:23

It does not look like Ocado is taking this seriously

Doesn't matter does it?
The anger has been shown.

Molokonono · 03/10/2018 18:22

I give no shits about ocado, my veggie box comes tomorrow and we have already made arrangements for the other stuff we used to get from there.

Ratitatita · 03/10/2018 18:19

It does not look like Ocado is taking this seriously, and the share price seems to have perked up again.

I am just wondering whether we might up the ante and liaise with some of the funds who invest in Ocado and alert them to the impact our actions might have on the company's bottom line at some stage.

This article dated 21/05/18 lists three funds:

  • Jupiter UK Smaller Companies
  • Fidelity Global Technology Class Series B
  • Baillie Gifford Global Discovery.

They all are on Twitter under:

  • @JupiterAM
  • @BaillieGifford ‏
  • @Fidelity ‏

It might be worth tweeting them, copying Ocado and possibly linking to this thread.

StealthNinjaMum · 03/10/2018 17:42

I sent an email earlier to finally cancel my smartpass and account (I complained last week and thought I'd give them a chance to issue a public apology).

Anyway I got an instant email telling me it will take me 48 hours to get back to me. Last week it was 24. Sounds like their customer services department are busy!

caringdenise009 · 03/10/2018 17:42

I don't know if it has already been mentioned but Ocado also provide the service for Morrisons online delivery. Apparently they changed the logos on the vans delivering Morrisons groceries for some reason.

SuburbanRhonda · 03/10/2018 17:24

This is the email I got today:

“Last week one of our customer services representatives, in a response on Twitter, inadvertently entered into a debate that did not relate to Ocado, our marketing, or our values. This issue was not for Ocado to comment on and as a result, the Tweet was withdrawn.”

“We apologise for any confusion or offence that this message may have caused. At Ocado we believe passionately in a culture of inclusion and creating an environment around our business that is completely free from discrimination, harassment and victimisation of any sort.”

“I apologise again for any confusion or offence caused, and I do hope you reconsider.”

The email was personally addressed to me and was signed off by an actual person, so I phoned to speak to her. Instead I got some poor guy who was probably hoping I was phoning to tell him my shopping was damaged. He spoke to his superiors and came back with the message that they were not willing to discuss it any further.

So no apology, no statement that they do not actually think the billboard was hate speech.

Closed my account, of course.

Paperchaserr · 03/10/2018 17:18

Long-term Ocado shopper here, just placed an order with Waitrose. Been meaning to try them for a while and I like their new advert. I was pleased to see that I can import my Ocado and Waitrose card favourites into the site.

GoldenWonderwall · 03/10/2018 14:15

We cancelled too. It was dh and I don’t think he said why, he’s not had anyone phone him to tell him a load of shite anyway.

Thanks for mentioning Waitrose on here - I didn’t think they would but they deliver to us in our unfashionable town but they do!

happydappy2 · 03/10/2018 13:49

Had the call from Millie yesterday, she sounded very young & slightly out of her depth, I had to stop her when she mentioned gender, so I could ask her how do you determine gender? She couldn’t. I explained that if the dictionary definition of woman is viewed as hate speech then what will be next? I said I really need ocado to make a statement/tweet confirming that it was a rougue employee & not representative of the companies view, that the word woman on a poster is hate speech. She said at this time the company won’t be doing that but she’ll pass the comments on. I said I’ll wait a week and see what they do, but I cannot spend money with a company that doesn’t respect their core customers base. My lifetime spend is over 60k....
