IMPORTANT NOTICE - It is with regret that we have to announce that our meeting in Leeds cannot go ahead due to late and unreasonable cancellation. We will be emailing attendees shortly with more information. We condemn this act of silencing women. More to follow.

Sounds like a brilliant evening and a spectacular own goal!

NotMeOhNo · 28/09/2018 23:28

Lovely update!

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 28/09/2018 23:14

Everyone there was in agreement that there's been a distinct change in the air very recently with more people speaking about it and becoming aware. One of the women involved tonight said she has been doing some analysis of online public responses to recent media exposure of the issue and though the This Morning public comment responses came in 50/50 between 'but India is nice' and 'Posie speaks the truth', the other public commentaries are overwhelmingly and significantly GC.

redshoeblueshoe · 28/09/2018 23:08

Thanks for the update Wichbitch Wine

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/09/2018 23:04

So pleased the meeting is going ahead. I have a feeling this is going to turn out to be another spectacular own goal for the TRAs.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 28/09/2018 23:04

Just back home. What a brilliant meeting of a cancelled meeting!

Despite the cancellation some of us met up at the Civic Hall anyway. Over 70 of us, and a smaller group of protesters. Civic Hall was beautifully decorated in suffragette ribbons and banners. A couple of police officers were hanging around. Good, happy atmosphere.

Karen Ingala Smith did a short speech on the Civic Hall steps ending with a lot of applause. Protesters started shouting 'terfs out' so we did a bit of chanting. Then we all sidled off pretending we were heading home separately and reconvened in a pub nearby where one of the attendees had managed to get us a private room.

The meeting went as planned and all original speakers attended and spoke. Karen Ingala Smith (what a woman, drinks pints of Bridgehouse porter!), a wonderful woman called Tish who spoke about ROGD, Stephanie Aria Davies and Nic williams. Such a great and optimistic atmosphere all round.

Spoke to both Tish and Karen, totally inspirational, funny and warm women. Nic reported back on how well the campaign is working re the consultation. The great majority of people volunteers are speaking to on the streets are in complete disagreement with the GRA proposals once they have been made aware. The FPFW street campaign has had phenomenal responses from the public.

Towards the end of the meeting we were told something interesting, can't remember who said it -Sarah from WPUK?, not sure. That the NHS are changing the name of Gender Identity Service to Gender Dysphoria Service (significant change in language).

I took mini wichbitch with me too, second WPUK meeting for us both. We're both buzzing.

They tried to stop us from meeting and speaking, they failed. And as I understand the issue of Leeds CC cancelling the meeting has reached no 3 trending on Twitter this evening. Thank you for the publicity!

ToeToToe · 28/09/2018 22:55

You're not wrong Oakmaiden - but I knew about Jimmy Saville well before the news officially hit - and so did everybody else.

PurpleCrowbar · 28/09/2018 22:55

I spent a lot of time living in Leeds. Brilliant alternative club scene.

However, this does not entirely surprise me.

So glad the meeting is going ahead. Courage calls to courage.

ToeToToe · 28/09/2018 22:53

Actually, you're right - local politics stinks around here.

One party on the council lost a load of money (hundreds of thousands) that has never been accounted for, and the other wants to pave over the greenbelt.

Dodgy goings on with school places here too. Lets just say one counsellors children got into the outstanding state school my dc were at, despite living a rather long way away.

A monument to Jimmy Saville should as no fucking surprise.

I'll say no more. But.... South Riding.

To go with Red Riding.

Hmm
Oakmaiden · 28/09/2018 22:52

WTF? That the actual fucking fuck? How is she still in that job?

In a spirit of possibly undeserved fairness - that article was published before the whole Jimmy Saville thing was uncovered...

NameChangedAgain18 · 28/09/2018 22:43

Local politics stinks. There are some truly disgusting people involved in it. They are even worse than MPs.

redshoeblueshoe · 28/09/2018 22:42

People need to have a good look at every individual they are voting for.

redshoeblueshoe · 28/09/2018 22:41

And sued a school using Council money ( a lot of it)

arranfan · 28/09/2018 22:39

Who are these people in public office?

Presumably, they're people we elected.

ToeToToe · 28/09/2018 22:36

Judith Blake, Labour deputy leader of Leeds City Council, said any future memorial should mark Sir Jimmy's "enormous contribution" to the city.

WTF? That the actual fucking fuck? How is she still in that job?

And - How is Joe Anderson still mayor of Liverpool when he tipped off a paedophile to clear his computer hard drive before the police raid the next day? And sued a school!!

Who are these people in public office?

Anlaf · 28/09/2018 22:33

Yes. Same.

Sarahconnor1 · 28/09/2018 22:32

Is this the same Judith blake that cancelled the booking?

Knicknackpaddyflak · 28/09/2018 22:31

They want some women banned from women’s spaces

Saints preserve us from the terminally woke.

We want the male women banned from SOME female women's spaces where the female women have a right to privacy, dignity and separate provision from people with male bodies and where their provision is harmed by this. What the people with male bodies think and feel about this is not relevant; those spaces are to meet the needs of the female women. Unless you have a fixed belief that male trumps and outranks female and you must serve this at all times, what is wrong with you?

Men cannot turn into women. Transwomen are physically male. There is no way to make the presence of male bodies ok with all females, or to include those males without excluding some females - mostly the vulnerable ones. They have rights too.

Grip store = over there.

ToeToToe · 28/09/2018 22:27

Bloody typos. Terrible Grin

ToeToToe · 28/09/2018 22:27

This is all so ludicrous.

How is it that we are fighting now in 2018 for female only spaces - and certain women are just giving them away to males?

ANyone watch "Parade's ENd" ? With Benedict Cumberbatch ? There's a fab scen when she runs onto the golf course shouting Votes For Women!

We need to start shouting "Spaces for Women!" - I cannot believe that after the gains women's have made over the decades we are having to fight this shit! We don't want gender fucking neutral shit. OK?

#Spaces for Women

And Suffragette colours. Suffragettes never had to deal with a load of men calling themselves women - very few would would then!!

ToeToToe · 28/09/2018 22:22

I understand that we want women's spaces preserved, and those born male not allowed in on the basis of selfID.

Perfectly straightforward. Men cannot be women.

Anlaf · 28/09/2018 22:19

Frustratingly a number of female Leeds councillors are chirpily defending the cancellation.

Well given - knowing that the booking would not be accepted due to our policies - the room booking was made without disclosing the reality of the meeting, and knowing the public opposition to your agenda meant you had to keep it secret until the last minute, we had to act fast 👍

twitter.com/hanbithell/status/1045739537861947392?s=19
They want some women banned from women’s spaces, as an proudly inclusive city that meeting should not be in a publicly funded building. They were told this months ago and rebooked under a false name!

Men make demands, women comply, women will take the flak for breaching Equalities duties.

Gah, you fools.

ContessasGulagSpaDay · 28/09/2018 22:01

Glad it is going ahead anyway - furious at Leeds f*ing council though Angry

anunseemlylovefordustin · 28/09/2018 21:54

I would gladly contribute towards legal
costs if someone started a crowdfunder or similar!

arranfan · 28/09/2018 21:36

Heartwarming tweet from Paul Embrey of FBU:

I believe that, in years to come, groups such as WomansPlaceUK, who are experiencing the most disgraceful vitriol and bullying in their defence of the simple concept of womanhood, will be remembered as the matchgirls and suffragettes are remembered. They will deserve no less.
