IMPORTANT NOTICE - It is with regret that we have to announce that our meeting in Leeds cannot go ahead due to late and unreasonable cancellation. We will be emailing attendees shortly with more information. We condemn this act of silencing women. More to follow.

Lachlan Stuart on Twitter used to be a FOI officer at the Ministry of Justice.

He's put in a FOI request to Leeds CC re the cancellation of WPUK meeting.

He says anyone is free to use it if they also wish to make a request

Leeds WPUK cancelled

There's most definitely a link. Connecting the dots.

And for those of the 'well, they're just all in the same party, of course they're linked' surface-level arguement.

That would be fine, unless you're aware of some of the deeper concerns many posters here and elsewhere have raised over the last month or so since the Challenor issues.

Man who seeks to silence women talking about their rights in Leeds has significant links to another person who was responsible for a bit of tech that blocked thousands of women talking about their rights, who has significant links to people who have no regard to boundaries.

(And the last sentence is a huge understatement to stay within posting regulations here).

Ha Bore!. I'm sure I read somewhere that he has some connection with the Challoners somewhere on Twitter today but can't remember where now. Too much to read and try to keep tabs on these days.

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/09/2018 20:15

Richard looks as if he'd fit right in with Aimee's furry friends.

NameChangedAgain18 · 29/09/2018 20:14

3. Bloke contacted the organised protest group that he was a member of, which included elected Labour Leeds City Councillors
4. Said Councillors got the event cancelled on about five minutes notice

This is an abuse of public office. Elected representatives in local government conspiring to prevent women meeting to discuss issues relating to a government consultation. I really hope WPUK make an official complaint or, better still, take legal action.

howonearthdidwegethere · 29/09/2018 20:13

Well well well. They both signed a proposed amendment to "update diversity targets using gender neutral language" (p.50):

www.greenparty.org.uk/resources/Conference/Spring%202018/Final%20Agenda%20Complete%20v.2.pdf

The proposal was to include this:

"women (cisgender and transgender) comprise at least 50% of candidates selected to stand for winnable seats"

pombear · 29/09/2018 20:04

Just popping in as a bit busy this weekend, so apologies if this has already been flagged elsewhere.

Did anyone notice how closely linked the fragrant Richard J Firth is to Aimee Challenor and team at the Green Party? His name is on some of the same groups who were asking for 'amendments' to policy at this year's Party Conference.

It's almost like both of them want to silence women in various ways.

All those little connecting dots keep getting closer together.

Richard - will we find you online elsewhere?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 29/09/2018 19:47

On the grapevine I hear the GP are already looking into the role Richard Firth - Leeds GP officer for "Equality, Diversity and Inclusion' has played in this.

howonearthdidwegethere - Thank you for linking to that useful item by Jonny Best. :)

So welcome to Leeds, women. Just remember while you’re here that the City Council is happy to pimp you on the piss-stained streets of Holbeck, but you’re not allowed to assemble and discuss your rights.

howonearthdidwegethere · 29/09/2018 19:14

From the Code of Conduct all councillors must adhere to:

Part One - Standards of Conduct
You must have regard to, and act in accordance with, the following standards of conduct:

  1. Selflessness
You should serve only in the public interest, and should never improperly confer an advantage or disadvantage on any person, organisation or group, or any other third party.
  1. Honesty and Integrity
You should not place yourself in situations where your honesty and integrity may be questioned; you should not behave improperly and should avoid the appearance of such behaviour.
  1. Objectivity
You must make decisions based on the information before you, having had regard to any professional advice provided to you and in accordance with your view of the public interest.

You should make decisions on merit, this includes when making appointments, awarding contracts, or recommending individuals for awards or other recognition.

  1. Accountability
You are accountable to the public for your decisions and actions and the manner in which you carry out your duties. You must co-operate fully and honestly with any scrutiny appropriate to your office.

You should not undertake any action which would bring the Council, your position, or the position of Members generally, into disrepute.

  1. Openness
You must be as open as possible about your actions and those of the authority, and should be prepared to give reasons for those actions.
  1. Leadership
You must promote and maintain high standards of conduct by supporting these principles by leadership and by example, and should act in a way that secures or preserves the confidence of others.

You must have due regard to the impartiality and integrity of the authority’s statutory officers and its other employees.

Thank you @arranfan .
I hope a lot of other people will be contacting them too, not just on twitter or Facebook threads.

howonearthdidwegethere · 29/09/2018 19:10

Conveniently, the screenshots are all in Jonny Best's Medium piece:

howonearthdidwegethere · 29/09/2018 19:09

Jessica has apparently deleted her Twitter account. However, plenty of people have screenshotted her tweets. Read in conjunction with the tweets of a Green spokesperson, it seemed as if she was a member of the counter-protest group which sought to deny WPUK the right to use the venue.

I've not had a chance to read all the documents but it would be worth considering whether there is enough there to form the basis of a complaint to the Council's Standards and Conduct Committee:

www.leeds.gov.uk/your-council/councillors-and-democracy/code-of-conduct

Any complaint would be best coming from a Leeds resident/taxpayer.

Sarahconnor1 · 29/09/2018 19:08

twitter.com/jess4labour no longer exists. To be fair I don't think you would have got a response from jess anyway.

arranfan · 29/09/2018 19:06

@alexpolistigers - there are some useful names for Leeds Council contacts and a discussion of the relevant parts of the HRA in this thread:

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 29/09/2018 18:49

I would be delighted to donate towards a legal challenge. The people behind the decision should to be held to account.

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/09/2018 17:16

Well done Stroppy. It was seeing your handiwork that prompted me to ask in Site Stuff if MNHQ will let us have a suffragette flag icon Grin

arranfan · 29/09/2018 16:24

alexpolistigers - it's probably helpful to look on Twitter to see what contact details and names are recommended?

Jessica Lennox (involved in the decision to cancel the booking) has her email on her Twitter acct.

twitter.com/jess4labour

But I'd keep an eye on WPUK's Twitter account to see if they have advice about how to complain and to whom.

alexpolistigers · 29/09/2018 15:49

I am going to email Leeds City Council. How do I go about finding the right email address? I am also going to email MPs in the Leeds area.

Anlaf · 29/09/2018 13:38

Stroppy I do not know you but I am so proud of you. For you? WELL DONE

arranfan · 29/09/2018 13:33

@stroppywoman applause for a job well done! I so admire all the banner work in Leeds along with the fabulous suffragette colours.

If Leeds Spinners offered banner making classes, I'd take them :)

hackmum · 29/09/2018 13:02

So grateful to Lucy Bannerman. She has been superb on this.

Looking at that quote from Hannah Bithell - how can anyone be so dim? It’s as if these handmaidens have switched their brains off. Extraordinary.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/09/2018 12:55

Fabulous work StroppyWoman!

redshoeblueshoe · 29/09/2018 12:55

Stroppy job well done. Wine

StroppyWoman · 29/09/2018 12:29

I tied those scarves around the pillars, with big lovely bows!
I also froze my butt off standing around outside for 90 minutes, arthritis is really playing up this morning.

I was happy to stand with the brave and ace women who attended. Now the beer has worn off, I am a little freaked out at being on the front of the Yorkshire Evening Post, though. My 12yo's friend messaged her to say she'd seen me on the paper and why was I being mean to trans people.
Urgh.
Blinking brilliant event in the end, and I got to feel like a spy, taking a circuitous route to the hastily rearranged venue.
Mata Hari Pankhurst, that's me
