IMPORTANT NOTICE - It is with regret that we have to announce that our meeting in Leeds cannot go ahead due to late and unreasonable cancellation. We will be emailing attendees shortly with more information. We condemn this act of silencing women. More to follow.

Thanks for the screenshot Tiger. I find it harder to do them off the phone.

At least the TRA version shows they understand shutting down the meeting did not make them look good. They try to shift the blame onto feminists despite all the Twitter evidence. RJ Firth, who bought a ticket to the event and was instrumental in getting it cancelled, says 'Nothing is ever straightforward with these people. Wouldn't surprise me if they had in fact booked the Victoria Hotel in advance and staged the whole thing.'

deepwatersolo · 30/09/2018 22:13

Do these people have any idea how this makes them look?

You mean, like entitled maled who can't have women impede their access to females of all* ages?

*The fella identifies as pansexual. As 'pan' means all encompassing, surely this goes for the age of people as well?

Datun · 30/09/2018 22:08

Is this the person who got the meeting shut down? They say they are a Green party activist.
Is that it?

An open meeting where women are discussing changes to the GRA in line with a public consultation asking them for their input??

Do these people have any idea how this makes them look?

Do you have a link to that letter, Moanella? I'd like to share it on my social media.

Moanella · 30/09/2018 20:46

I've just seen this - isn't it defamatory against WPUK? They are definitely not a "transphobic hate group"

Leeds City Council are in breech of the Equality Act, 2010.

Local authorities have a statutory duty to "foster good relations" between those who do and do not share protected characteristics - eg organising and mediating at meetings between transgender people and women.

They also have a statutory duty to advance the interests of people with a protected characteristic (eg facilitating or enabling a meeting to take place).

And of course, they are supposed to eliminate discrimination and unlawful conduct towards the protected characteristic people - rather than actively victimise and discriminate against them.

Here's the law:

149 Public sector equality duty

(1)A public authority must, in the exercise of its functions, have due regard to the need to—

(a)eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under this Act;

(b)advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it;

(c)foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.

The lie originated with The Banned Sprout. Strangely, the individual who supposedly alerted Jess Lennox is backing it.

NotTerfNorCis · 30/09/2018 17:32

Have you seen the TRA lies?

I have no words - the cognitive dissonance is strong with those Councillors.

TimeLady · 30/09/2018 17:16

Nothing on Friday's events in the Yorkshire Post

Shame on them Angry

Anlaf · 30/09/2018 16:28

Anyone see this? The leeds city council-funded museum is currently running an exhibition called:
A women's place on " the struggles and progress of women in achieving equality and recognition."

pombear Hello!

PegasusRex · 30/09/2018 14:29

I've just started another thread on the email I sent to Judith Blake this morning.

I'm beyond angry that the council have got the brass neck to celebrate the Suffragettes after what they did on Friday. Protest anyone?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/09/2018 14:25

On case it's not been mentioned... Leeds is apparently 'welcoming' the suffragette flag to the city tomorrow in celebration of votes for women. A male councillor is goving a nice speed to the ladiea (I cant see many girlz turning up as the sight of the flag may be triggering).

Do go along and show your support.

alexpolistigers · 30/09/2018 14:20

I am sure WPUK will release a statement on the matter in due course. It still strikes me as unreasonable to cancel right before the meeting was due to start. Booking irregularities could have been clarified much earlier.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 30/09/2018 12:27

One of the oddities about the cancellation is that I've seen more than one allegation that WPUK tried to book the Civic Hall months ago and were refused, so the booking was made under a 'false' name. I've also seen WPUK supporters say this is nonsense.

If anyone involved in a FOI request can make use of these screenshots, feel free. I see only two possible explanations for these tweets. Either Hetty Spoon's tweets are inaccurate, and we can all speculate why that might be, or Hetty Spoon appears to be privy to information that could only have come from an employee of Leeds City Council, in which case there's surely been a breach of the Data Protection Act. Am I right here?

Male approval.

deepwatersolo · 29/09/2018 22:04

I do have my theories, why Richard may be so invested in shutting up discussions of women‘s rights and safeguarding, and same goes for this NHS doctor (Harthorpe?). But what does this Jess person get out of it?

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/09/2018 21:41

WPUK have said on Twitter that they are taking legal advice. They might appreciate hearing from you, if anyone can put you in touch.

TheCuriousMonkey · 29/09/2018 21:38

I've just posted about this on the judicial review thread because I think this might be a good case to take to court (I'm a lawyer with relevant knowledge of judicial review, human rights etc.)

Is anyone looking into this?
